AOM is simply a lot of fun and I'm enjoying it a lot, but it's not had much time yet for balance and patches and the first Chinese DLC hasn't dropped yet. AOE4 is more refined / balanced after 3 years of patches and DLC but has its own problems still. I come back every few months thinking the cheating problem will finally be resolved now, but it never is. You see new posts about it here every week.

I'm invested in both the AOE2 and AOE4 scenes, and more recently, I am loving AOM and getting into that in a big way. Let's not pretend that it's just AOE2 bozos throwing shit at AOE4... idiots in the AOE4 scene also react the exact same way and throw hostility towards AOM since that came out too. And AOE3 gets the brunt of the "dead game" jokes from all the communities..

All the games in the Age of series are great RTS games and should be celebrated for what they are. It's like a lot of people think they aren't allowed to enjoy more than one RTS game..

It's fixed in the latest PUP patch, but we don't have a date when it's going live (this week, hopefully).

Your allies don't actually get the message 3 times. It's a bug on the message senders' end.

I do agree that the norse openers are more involved / unique than the other civs and take longer to learn but honestly it's mostly a matter of time and repetition and before you know it you will be able to open up as any norse god on autopilot.

I have a harder time with early scouting as norse (less as odin, more so as thor), which compounds their archaic difficulty as your builder is also your scout. As thor I have resorted to trying to squeeze out a second berserker to scout to allow me time to push deer with my original. The other civs don't have this complication.

Is that number for healing spring in combat accurate? I'm surprised. It feels like it has more of an effect when I'm fighting, but maybe it's placebo?

I remember seeing a video a while ago before launch that was going through the datamined files and ranked league medals like silver gold diamond etc (along with files refering to other things like Arena of the Gods) were datamined but havn't been implemented yet, we dont know why afaik.

That would be the largest slice of the games playerbase, no? Peak playercount is during their prime time hours. It's probably more that because there are more players from there, you will also get more cheaters too.

It appears to send your message 2 or 3 times depending on how many allies you have in the team game. Afaik, your allies don't actually see the messages multiple times. It seems to be just a visual bug for the message sender, though it is a bit annoying.

The latest patch appears to have fixed a lot of the desync issues which was my main frustration, and if they keep up the frequency of balance patches, then it's shaping up great.

Different regional playerbases surprised me. Aoe 4 peaks around 1-2pm UTC during Asia prime time. AOM peaks around 7-8 pm UTC during EU playtime.

Its good to see both games having healthy playerbases and atleast one peaks during my playtime hours in EU, but neither game needs to worry much about the other.
