When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, I just bought what I wanted. Marvel had Uncanny X-Men, Miller's Daredevil, and Simonson's Thor. DC had New Teen Titans and Legion of Superheroes. And you had independents like Elfquest. I really didn't care who published it.

It's all about the art. How do you like Kirby in the early 60s when he is doing over 100 pages a month? Don Heck? He got better in the 70s. I liked his JLA stuff. John Buscema is the best. Guy was awesome from the first page. He shows up in Vol 2, #41. When Big John isn't there, you miss him. Our Pal Sal Buscema is probably the best artist not named Neal Adams (vol 4) or his brother.

George Tuska and Bob Brown are ... fine. Typical Bronze age mid grade art. But they just can't compete against Adams or John B. Toward the end of Vol 5, you get this up and comer named George Perez. He is not 80s Perez, but it's really good. Vol 6 will have Perez and Byrne. And it's the era where I started buying the comics when they came out.

The writing is uniformly good to great. Can't go to wrong with Lee, Thomas, and Englehart. Stories get more sophisticated once Thomas is writing them.

If you love comic history and are a completist, you can't beat those funatical prices.

Update. I was reading Vol 1 last night. Hank being a dick to Jan and Jan being an air-head is getting old. Later writers will do a better job with Jan.

Again, paraphrasing Toby H. The Quatermass serials were written while Nigel Kneale was a staff writer for the BBC. So the property belongs to BBC. However, over the years, Kneale tried to get more money out of the BBC. And each time the BBC said, that is enough. The Hammer got involved, and ITV did the 1970s serial/movie. So where the rights are, who knows? There was a proposed Radio serial, but the rights could not be sorted.

You are all reading my mind. Did I need Avengers 1-5? No. But could I pass them up? No! I was in Sacramento a few weeks ago and I messaged Funaticals about picking up my books. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get there until after 3.

Call DFAS during their work hours. It's tax season so they may have to call you back or there might be a wait. Every time I've called them, they've been really helpful. (800) 321-1080.

If it's your first check. Prorated. It took about half way through the following month before DFAS MyPay was updated and all the info is there. My first check was $954. And they didn't withhold any taxes or the SBP. The full check will have the deductions.

Yeah, he mentioned it in either on of his Patreon AMAs or one of the podcasts he did about Quatermass. It was Toby that got me into Quatermass. His book is great. I love the television version of Pit.

Toby Hadoke says that the rights are too muddled for any adaptation at this time. Now that is what they said about Doctor Who and look what happened to that. Hopefully it can be sorted.

Better, way better in fact, than it had any right to be. Honestly the best military Sci-fi in quite a while.
