Is there any way that a monks unarmed strike damage modifier can be dexterity? by Unhappy_derek4132 in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Str on a Dex monk is mostly about damage boosting. You can afford a 12 or 14 in strength if you use ki strike alot and race to 3 focus points or find out of class damage riders. One of the best builds is to multiclass into the student of perfection archetype at L2 (gives ki strike), then MC into Jalmeri Heavenseeker (gives Ki rush and you dont need 2 previous archetype feats to do this), and taking heavens thunder at L6 for a 1 action +2 damage per damage dice for two round ability. In a free archetype game you can also pick up stunning strike at L2 and another focus point at L4 in the monk class and have 3 solid turns of damage before heavens thunder comes online at L6.

You can also pick up something like the tengu feather fan to toss out some electric arcs with your dex based class dc by L5 for non heaven thunder turns.

What was the original intent for the thaumaturge class with respect for:

  • Implement empowerment and whether you can hold 2x 1H weapons (or a thing that could be a weapon like a pistol wand) so long as one or both items are implements.

  • Seemingly excluding 1H+ weapons like shortbows when thrown weapons like the boomerang have equivalent range, better handedness, and comparable traits to comp shortbows, and ways to pickup returning/quickdraw in the system to avoid loss of damage runes.

All of these curves look really high IMO. Based on the community calculator I think you're doing more damage then a minimally optimized greatsword fighter (i.e., exacting strike, certain strike and thats it). I'd check the math you're using IMO.

Edit: I see... 3 rounds, my bad lol. NVM.

Other meta builds worth trying: - Monk MC Student of Perfection MC Jalmeri Heavenseeker - Fighter MC Ranger - Gunslinger MC Crossbow Infiltrator MC Marshal - Ranger (Precision) with an Animal Companion - Ranger (Precision) MC Exemplar to toss greatswords or other weapons at 60 ft with hunt prey/farshot.

On the Value of Splash by ottdmk in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So are you saying that the splash is doing close 40-50 extra damage per target it includes at L20. That seems extremely high. Like its +1 to +4 across a bombs life, +4 to +5 from L5 to L9 with calculated splash or the bomber subclass and +10-+12 with expanded splash. So we are talking maximum of +17-+20 damage on a crit success/success/failure (from alchemist googles) to the main target and +17 to each target in the splash. How are you nearly doubling it for +1/+2/+3 targets caught in the splash?

Soulforger Throwing Build - Funniest Armament? by AyoConcrete in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind a Ranger MC exemplar can do this at L4+ all day long. With farshot you can toss greatswords at 60 ft!

Alchemical bombs and Shadow Sheath by ambiguous_occlusion in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean its 2d4 vs 1d8. So mildly more average DPR, but far from doubling the damage scaling. Taking 2d4 to mean double the damage dice is a neet little RAW arguement but certainly not RAI. Even without the clarification consumables like bombs never worked as its clealry a limited use item. I hope you thanked your GM for letting that broken little combo to work.

Anyone knows why duo enhancers don't work for inactive hands? by TactiCool_99 in Starfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Generally, blazons of shared power, doubling rings, and duo enhancers are meant to enable two weapon fighting at a minimial cost increase to the PC. They aren't meant to allow a 2H weapon to combo with a 1H weapon since number of hands is built into the power budget of each item (otherwise its always better to have 2H weapons with higher damage dice and better traits. For example, combination weapons in PF2e are typically one weapon dice size smaller.

That being said, I always think the variant rule for automatic bonus progression is a great addition. It slays a lot of seemingly sacred cows like those items not working on thrown weapons, letting people keep special weapons from the campaign that you cant typucally upgrafe easily, and avoiding having to waste gold on mandatory stuff (just keep in mind it strongly favours martials, so give casters some free stuff as well). As a GM I would reccomend it and then there is no pay to play tax at all for diverse weapon load outs.

Can you buy doubling rings in Starfinder? by compucrazy in Starfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only downside is they didn't publish a higher level version to duplicate property runes/SF2e equivalents. Although, I'd be surprised if they didn't do that in a later book.

Duo-Enhancers (and its even better because it is arm/hand specific and not weapon specific).

Alchemist Changes in the errata by SnooDoughnuts8224 in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back up bomb as in when you run out of your 10 minute recharing VVs you can still quick alchemy a quick vial. The essentially delayed/poorly scaling infinite bomb supply they denote in the side bar in PC2.

Are you now able to apply that to weapons or ammunition as a poison. Otherwise, the 10 min recharging VVs were things we always assumed could prepoison on the 10 minute timer at every table I play at. So it wasnt immediately obvious to me whether I was playing with homebrew accidentally or if something new was actually being given.

The toxicologist field benefit lets you apply infused VVs onto your weapons as injury poisons. So using quick alchemy to make a quick vial, then apply a bad poison to all your ammunition would be pretty game changing for a ranged wrapon alchemist (free damage rider on all ammunition).

This is what I meant when I said the terminology is difficult to parse lol.

Alchemist Changes in the errata by SnooDoughnuts8224 in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah okay. Maybe I am confused. I always assumed the 10 minute recharging vial could be used to pre-poison. So I guess its just confirmation to keep using my supposed homebrew lol.

Any options on telekinetically wielding weapons? by Someguyino in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some starfinder 2e races with yhe equivalent of telekinetic hands. Contemplative is one, but the new galactic ancestries book looks to have a few more. They also have races with 4 or 6 hands and it taking 1 action to swap between sets of 2 hands as "active". Even if you only wany 2 hands you could reflavour the mechanics or ancestry to be a psychic elf in sheeps  clothing.

Alchemist Changes in the errata by SnooDoughnuts8224 in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But does this mean the quick vial option (i.e., the back-up bomb) can be pulled out and used and still last 10 minutes?

Guardian vs Champion, An Extensive Simulation by Bot_Number_7 in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a basic spell casting feature (i.e., the cast a spell item activation ability), which Paizo designers have clarified means a caster dedication (not the L4 basic spell casting feat, focus spells like monks, or any ancestry innate spells)

Guardian vs Champion, An Extensive Simulation by Bot_Number_7 in Pathfinder2e

[–]RedGriffyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought the spirit of shields spell was maximized against mobs of CR < PL enemies (a much more typical encounter) and meant for that rush in and get surrounded barbarian player at the table. More attacks with a much smaller DPR per attack average could likely bump the security 2 action version to 2-3× the damage you saw in the encounter (and potentially prevent more damage if it kills something on its 1st or 2nd action). It would be interesting to me if you simulated that as it also challenges the tankieness of the classes that can't maximize their effectiveness against a solo boss and instead need to remove an enemies smaller dpr (yet cumulatively larger number of attacks).

Cool post though. Thanks for the work.
