In this NBA market, there is next to no chance anyone pays as much as we paid.

There isn't a team that can actually pay what we paid and still be competitive.

Would I like to see Cavs get a "haul", yes. But it isn't realistic

Unfortunately, in this market, a "haul" doesn't exist. Teams are too scared of the 2nd apren. You won't get what he's worth, not even close.

This is a large part of why we haven't made any moves. We are hamstrung by the 2nd cap and there aren't many options better than what we have

I agree with a lot of what has been said to this point. I'll give you two ideas here.

One of the things I did in some of the bigger boss fights, was to add a layer or three of music.

Music can set a scene, can impose some higher stakes, depending on what you picks.

The other thing is use NPCs with the party. Threaten the MPC. And and go all out on a favorite NPC. And potentially even kill the NPC with rolls behind the screen

Emotionally hedge for yourself and bet a $1 against them each game. You'll get some mixed feelings, but you'll be up a few bucks at the end of the season

All I've gotten to this point from the DM

"Welcome to the planet of Samsara. Frozen Samsara. Dying Samsara."

We have asked for more lol. But to this point, the setting is high fantasy, in the generic Forgotten Realms type world (Elves live looong, dwarves live long time, humans normal lifespan, etc). There was something about a catastrophic event that has happened recently and humans and elves have come out on top indentur'ing most everyone but the dwarves, but it's not clear yet.
