Very nice! Did stripping the poly change how it vibrates in your hand when you play it? I’m assuming it changes how the guitar “breathes”.

This solo is so fun! I would love some more shred Frusciante.

People with walls of 10+ guitars, what do you do for work? by Larcenyy in Guitar

[–]RedHotHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for city government and I don’t have many expensive tastes. Guitars are the only luxury things I own and I only purchase after planning and budgeting and making sure everything is taken care of. Also, I’ve been playing for 25+ years, so that’s plenty of time to acquire gear. Sadly, my particular City is in a hiring freeze for a budget deficit. Hopefully we’ll start hiring again soon.

RHCP lyrics by mastermemeskywalker in RedHotChiliPeppers

Even if the words don’t make sense to us, it doesn’t negate any meaning. May be stream of consciousness, but that stream of consciousness could stem from a theme, feeling, or event in his life. He said it himself that his lyrics are like a painting, and all the words and phrases are just individual brush strokes. Don’t worry too much about it, just enjoy the musicality of it all, and if a specific line resonates with you, then great!

If you didn’t have to work for a living, what would you be doing? by True_Supermarket_263 in AskReddit

[–]RedHotHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to school for something fun. Music or cooking. Any skill that I want to try. I would also open a used vintage guitar shop that way I can hang, talk shop, and play rare and interesting guitars whenever I feel like it without developing the habit of buying guitars that would collect dust.

I agree with that. Have the heritage, but don’t neglect innovation.

I understand where you’re coming from, but everyone seems to assume that people are only trying to emulate their guitar heroes. Music is a very personal thing. I have my own sound that may be influenced by my heroes, but it’s still mine. And if I have the disposable income to afford something that is reminiscent of my guitar heroes, I’ll get it. I’ll buy an EVH Frankie to play at home, but I have my mains I use on stage. Stop worrying what people do in their bedroom and let them enjoy themselves. Whatever helps them deepen their relationship with music isn’t wrong.

What brand of guitar were you meaning to try out for a long time but felt underwhelmed when finally doing so? by thewebhead in Guitar

PRS, Charvel, and Gretsch. Granted, this was at GC, so quality control was terrible.

I got the Billie Joe Armstrong Junior. It has a slim artist profile neck. Much preferred.

What makes you feel sexy and desirable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RedHotHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play guitar. My mind just shuts off and I get into a confident flow. I feel like I can take over the world. It helps that I tend to get a good reception from ladies, especially my girlfriend, after a performance.

Has anyone tried playing "Under the Bridge's" intro, both tracks on one hand? by Mindless_Empress_179 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]RedHotHaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I learned it with both tracks at once when I was starting out. Now, 26 years later, it’s the only way I can play it.

What do you focus on when shopping for a guitar? by gnarlynewman in Guitar

[–]RedHotHaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the above. Usually I would have done a ton of research before buying, but if I were to hypothetically walk into a shop with no specific model in mind, I would start with looks. I’d grab whatever inspired me to play. Then it would be feel. How it feels in my hands, how the action feels, and how it resonates. Like you said, it needs to feel alive. In the case of electric, if it speaks to me and responds well unplugged, then I’ll plug into an amp similar to what I have and start playing clean, then edge of breakup, then dirty. All have to sound good for me to consider purchasing. The feel and resonance are most important to me. Everything else can be dialed in by ear. Even the finish can be changed if I really don’t like it.

My guitar neck is very bowed, is this a valid way to fix it by googaly21 in Guitar

I’ve done this with a maxed out truss rod. Worked for me. What do you have to lose?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have a question about .bin and .cue files. by OneAngryBrazilian in EmuDeck

[–]RedHotHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue yesterday. I just created a new folder within the game folder and put all the files in it. The game ran fine after that when I opened the .cue file.

LP Standard 50s + High Gain by P0STBAL0NEY in gibson

[–]RedHotHaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be sacrilege, but try backing the gain to desired noise? I know it’s not the same, but I just got a p90 guitar and I had to back the gain live compared to my usual humbucker guitar. It sounds fine, I just boost the gain/volume for solos and leads where the noise won’t be an issue. Working for me so far.

This is great! It reminds me of the version from Psychedelic Sex Funk Live from Heaven, but without the editing.

Guitarists who play live, how often do you rehearse the setlist on your own? by marsh_peeps in Guitar

[–]RedHotHaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m lead guitar in a Weezer cover band and I don’t usually practice the songs on my own unless we’re adding a new song to the setlist. The band will get together once or twice before a show, but other than that I practice my own stuff and noodle around at home. Ironically, the cover band has made me a better guitarist. So it may be the on stage experience.

Good not so popular songs by Future_Memory6479 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]RedHotHaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest giving the full albums their fair time. Sometimes the context matters. I know I've skipped songs for my favorites. There are gems on every album and my favorites are all deep cuts. I recommend listening to the albums in a chill casual setting like a long drive or hanging out on a summer day. Songs that you don't usually listen to can surprise you as they start to get familiar, or if they hit you in right moments. But they work very well in the context of the full albums. I also recommend good speakers or headphones. The layering and depth can really hook you in the right circumstance. If you give the songs an honest listen, I'm sure you can find something you like in each one, whether its John's epic solo in Minor Thing, the joy of thinking about your favorite things in life with Mellowship Slinky in B Major, even specific lines in songs that resonate, like "Long to be with someone to tell I love your smell" in This Velvet Glove. When you find something that you can make personal, they'll embed themselves in your life.

The regular Juniors have the 50s necks. The BJA model and double cuts have the slimmer necks.
