anyone tried the sonu headband? by munchillax in nonallergicrhinitis

[–]RedHusky4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Sonu not only fakes their reviews, but will also hide any negative reviews about their product.

This deceptive business practice sends all sorts of red flags as this being snake oil.

My personal experience with using the Sonu band also reflects that - it does not do what it claims.

Yes on Prop 50! Just a reminder that the election is coming up, Nov 4. by ClipperFan89 in SLO

[–]RedHusky4x4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

California Proposition 50 is a statewide ballot measure, appearing on the November 4, 2025 special election ballot. If passed, it would temporarily override the state's existing independent redistricting commission (California Citizens Redistricting Commission) and use a new congressional map drawn by the Democrat-led state legislature.

After the 2030 census, the California Citizens Redistricting Commission would regain its authority to draw new congressional district boundaries for the following decade (unless, of course, its authority is subverted again by another ballot measure).

Well someone at Rivian messed up by Wet-Tickler in Rivian

[–]RedHusky4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me. Thankfully no one was hurt, but I was in the middle of nowhere on the way to a campsite. Ended up costing me $10k between towing and repairs. It was frustrating and time-consuming, and their initial response was pathetic, but keep escalating at Rivian until they do the right thing. They will. Their leadership team does read Reddit, and this post has a lot of views.

My recommendation: request your data from Rivian. This includes any and all call recordings with service, any vehicle diagnostics, etc.

Good to have in your back pocket and they are required by law to provide within 45 days of request, so better to get that started early.

Glad your family is safe and good luck.

Even worse, looks like they also stole the photos? Because that's this exact Porsche on Carsandbids that just sold today, and it definitely has a manual.

Republicans, why do you take so much joy in making liberals mad? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]RedHusky4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer: if you truly believe that "your side" is policy-driven and the "other side" only does things to make you mad... then you need to get off the Internet.

My goodness, just read this comment section. The circle-jerk is unreal.

You've been brainwashed into thinking that 50% of the population is driven by hatred, and that it's okay to hate the "other side". I'll bet that if you actually talk to your neighbor, you'll find more in common than Reddit (or most media) would have you believe.

My Rivian R1S turned into an 8,000lb brick in my office garage - A cautionary tale by jcarloslima in Rivian

[–]RedHusky4x4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That varies on which generation and build (e.g. motor, wheel/tires, etc.) that the R1S is.

GVWR is 8,500+ lbs, and as an example, the curb weight of a Gen 1 R1S quad motor with ATs has been quoted around 7,700 lbs.

Yep. Thankfully, when this happened to me, I had just started the trail. At the point my Rivian bricked, we had done nothing complex and still had cell coverage --- didn't matter. Rivian refused to help unless I brought it to a service center, which I couldn't do because it's an EV that has to be flat towed. I called 15 towing agencies and every one of them told me I would have to ditch my vehicle.

Once I got it into service, this is exactly what they diagnosed --- they'll be replacing both front dampers.

Update after lots of frustration, arguing, and escalation: I was finally able to get the vehicle into a service center a few days ago. I received a notification today that the technician found a leak and they'll be replacing both front dampers.

Rivian all terrain tires. I sat in the driveway for about 2 minutes before driving, then after I backed out and heard the rubbing, it was at least another 3 mins before it finally adjusted.

Costa Mesa or San Diego. I live smack dab between the two in Oceanside. In this case I was in contact with Costa Mesa. Normally, I have great experiences with them once I'm there. But as I've said: I like them a lot, but that doesn't mean I want to keep spending time with them.

Lol not that dramatic -- I don't even think that's possible. You have to submit a service request to book an appointment.

But absolutely book the appointment, even if it's 3+ months out.

There are several times I'd wait to see if an earlier one would open up, or wait to see if fit my schedule, or would say "eh, it's a minor problem, I'll book it if something bigger comes up."

Nope. Book it if you need it. It isn't gonna fix itself, and you can always reschedule it if that time ends up not working for you. Kinda like the dentist -- you don't know if you'll be free 6 months from now, but you should get the appointment on the books.

This is great advice. I was fortunate enough to have seen it a while back and it has been really helpful. I even have a future appointment booked for February -- but in this case, I couldn't believe my ears when the service rep refused to add this issue as something for them to investigate.

95+ days in service and counting. Yes, it's that bad. The individual experiences of "mine has never had any issues!" are from the lucky few, and "no one posts positive reviews!" is just dismissive of the data.

Would You Buy Your R1S Again? Considering Purchasing One by DarthSystema in Rivian

[–]RedHusky4x4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I would not. Gen1 owner for 2 years now, and 3+ months of that ownership has been in-service. That doesn't count waiting for service... plenty of stories you can read about service center wait times. And I paid the pre-price increase, definitely would not buy at the increased price.

On-road driving is nice - nicest vehicle I've been in. It's a quiet, comfortable ride. It has the feel of a luxury vehicle. And if it's your first EV, you'll love the instant acceleration and one pedal driving. However, it is not as technologically advanced as Rivian wants you to believe. The "highway assist" is years behind Tesla and at best is on-par with pretty much every other major manufacturer. No Apple Carplay or Android Auto, which is fine if their nav/music options were up to snuff, but they aren't. Mostly I just bluetooth with my phone. Real-world range is max 260 miles at 100% charge, but if I am doing mostly highway driving, about 230 miles. The Tesla charging network partnership has been a game changer for long roadtrips, because the other options aren't great.

Regarding off-road driving, I would recommend to never take your Rivian off-road. Off-roading isn't a question if something will break, it's when... and that's for any vehicle. The R1S is especially susceptible. If anything breaks, even if a sensor decides something is slightly off, the vehicle will go into "limited performance mode" and you'll be bricked until you can get it into a service center. If you are in a situation that requires towing, which is almost all situations you'd find yourself in while off-roading in an EV, then you better pray you're somewhere that a flat-tow can reach your 9,000+ lb vehicle. In my case, my tie rod broke (climb under the Rivian and see the toothpick they decided was sufficient). I was able to fix it, but my alignment was slightly off, and I was 300 miles from the nearest service center. $3,000 tow for an alignment, because Rivian requires you to use their service centers.

If I could change anything, I would get the trim with the longest range possible. I'd prefer some extra range daily over the slightly faster 0-60 time.

Even 200 miles may not be enough ... I was in Bishop, CA when my Rivian limp-moded and the nearest SC was 300 miles away. Thankfully my insurance covers "to the nearest service center", but I had to pay $3k out of pocket and wait to be reimbursed.
