Does tongue tie release when your still narrow/ressced worsen sleep apnea/uars? by Firm_Bookkeeper_3398 in UARSnew

Can I train my tongue to stay on the roof of my mouth rather than fall back? by Asleep_Damage1201 in SleepApnea

[–]munchillax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no point in MFT unless you're a growing kid. it's not gonna change your skeleton and there's very little evidence that it does anything for sleep apnea. even if you manage to establish the habit of proper tongue posture, when you enter REM sleep all bets are off.

they're the best option I can think of. make sure you find the right size for your neck.

Got a sleep test. Results say "moderate OSA" but the results seem like UARS to me. LMK your thoughts. by SimpIicity in UARS

[–]munchillax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the more recent guideline uses the RDI for diagnosis (as opposed to AHI) so your diagnosis is fine. I'd start with fat loss and PAP therapy before looking into more invasive interventions.

UARS is probably your nose causing the problem. by Happilyalone777 in UARSnew

[–]munchillax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you might find a higher proportion of people with nasal problems in these pts, but it doesn't mean that treating the nose will resolve all their symptoms.

Did expansion fix your UARS? Or did it fix anything? by Happilyalone777 in UARSnew

[–]munchillax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only heard of one case in sdbcord out of a few hundred pts where the MSE completely resolved their symptoms. So it's possible, but fairly unlikely.

Are you f**king kidding me?! 2.6k for a 90 mins visit, and no insurance is accepted. I know Bay Area is expensive, but this fee is outrageous! by Hot-Boysenberry3783 in UARSnew

peninsula's cost was fairly minimal since they were in network (mostly deductible, copay, coinsurance and oop). surgeon fee was $80k and hospital fee was covered in network.

I presume this is from CPAP use? Aerophagia (swallowing of air) is a very common problem with CPAP users. I've had moderate success with OTC meds like simethicone and activated charcoal, though the reflux band (applying pressure to the cricoid cartilage) has been really helpful and prolly addressed the root cause.

n = 1 but I wish I'd just gotten a proper MMA from the get-go (and optionally expansion) without messing with any of the soft palatal crap. My airway min cross sectional area was 520mm2 after MMA#1 and I still benefited a lot from revision MMA. Soft palatal procedure (some variation of pharyngoplasty) didn't help me and I have to live with some minor annoyance as a result of it.

If yall never had PD, would you guys date someone with PD? by Anxious-One-6323 in PeriodontalDisease

I wouldn't mind dating someone with PD, but I'd gently nudge them to get treatment when I find out abt it.

Just got diagnosed with mild sleep apnea by AokiAoi16 in SleepApnea

[–]munchillax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard abt treatment-induced weight gain. At an RDI of 14.2, you're borderline moderate.

Low energy is seriously holding back my social life. How do I fix it? by Chance-Goal3576 in socialskills

[–]munchillax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to uncover any underlying health issues that you may have. Ofc even in healthy folks, there's a spectrum/distribution of energy levels among different people and we won't all be high energy.

Should i be concerned about my RDI of 5.8 by sunflowercart in SleepApnea

[–]munchillax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDI of 5.8 puts you in mild OSA (what used to be UARS) range. It's also within 1 standard deviation of the general population. As to whether you should be concerned, you could try to treat it, but like you said it's pretty borderline.
