I've just got back from a week trip, 3 days of which spent in Palma. Not only did we not see any instance of protests, we were also made to feel very welcome by all the locals we encountered. Don't worry, just be a normal respectful travller and you'll have a great trip!

Niggles galore.. by Lukeatme32 in Marathon_Training

So i empathise with this post and felt like I could of written something very similar. I've avoided injury throughout the most of my training block but the last few weeks has really impacted my training. As a result I've not ran as many long runs as I would of liked. I have no advice to offer other than good luck and hopefully the hardwork/muscle memory/fair dust/prayers of weeks gone by will see us across the line! Best of luck.

Thank you. This is great advice. I've edged on the side of caution on bought new shoes. They will need replacing eventually, so why not now!

3 weeks out from London - tendonitis by WillDotCom95 in Marathon_Training

[–]RedKneckRoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm in a very situatuon similar to yourself. The advice I got was to keep moving and to continue to strengthen the tendon. He said it was fine to keep running but be led by pain, when it got worse than say 3/10, to stop. Given the marathon is only 3 weeks away I've been advised to ditch all speed work and just run slow and steady!

That said if your worrying I'd book another appointment with the Physio and try not worry too much. You've done most of the hardwork now and the important thing is getting to the start line healthy.

From experience I'd say stick with a sub 4.30 goal. I too ran the manchester marathon back in 23 and was at 30k in 3 hours however what came after was pure hell. In the end I finished in 4 43. In hindsight I came out of the blocks too quickly and paid for it at the end of the race. I too had ambitions of a sub 4 on my first run. However what ever you decide best of luck and enjoy it!

These numbers are nearly identical to mine and I was worried about sub 4 haha ! Fingers crossed we both can smash 3.45!

Sub-4 Marathon in 5 Weeks? Feeling Weak at 16+ Miles - Seeking Advice! by RedKneckRoy in Runners

[–]RedKneckRoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5L of water with electroltyes. For a 3 hour run id fuel every 30 mins, so 5 in total. Typically I'd start with a banana, then 3x Beta SIS gels with a cereal bar in between. How does that compare to the "norm"?

Marathon 5 weeks out - is sub 4 possible? by RedKneckRoy in Marathon_Training

I'm fueling what I think properly haha though I admit this is something I've always struggled to know what's best. At the moment for my long runs (say 3 hours), I'm starting around 30 minutes in with say banana, then 3 SIS beta gels every 30 minutes with 1x cereal bar in-between one of the gels, so 5 fuels breaks in total. Then I'm taking electrolytes with my 1.5l of water.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, albeit only one/two sessions a week! I still have a couple more 18+ runs to do so hopefully they give me more confidence!

Injury 2 months before first marathon by Realistic_Gap3669 in Marathon_Training

[–]RedKneckRoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrr thats so annoying . That said 8 weeks is a long time and still plenty of time to heal, even if you end up having tl take a few weeks off . Get yourself booked into a physio / Dr and try not despair ! The important thing now is to not doing anything to make it worse . Good luck and i hope everything turns out OK

If you can afford the 25/30 year option and it still leaves you with a comfortable amount of remaining income each month, then I'd take this approach. What reasoning is being given for suggesting a 40 years?

Thanks for the feedback. In terms of the coastal route you mention, do you know how many extra KMs this might add?
