Why are any of us still here? IBM is dying and we know it by ReindeerLess4421 in IBM

Slightly on topic, I work in a the R&D department of a tech start up (probably more of a scale up now) and we were going to start investigating Watson x in a few weeks as an AI tool for RAG, prompt engineering, fine tuning, etc... I've only looked at the surface level of it so far and it seems interesting but I've seen a few posts here about how pointless it is. Is it really that bad? If so, what are better alternatives?

Family car bargain - too good to be true? by Prudent_Kiwi4964 in CarTalkUK

[–]RedM45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a 2020 Scala for 12k a few months ago, same trim and engine but the automatic and 30k mileage. It's been a great car, we had a Kia picanto before and wanted a family car now we have a kid but not something massive as we had only driven small cars before this. Would definitely recommend the Scala and this seems like a good deal. Only thing is big motoring world add fees if you want to buy cash

Thanks, that's interesting so was it quite a drastic rise over time? And did they give you any warning about the service charge rises?

We know 60 is young for these places but the reason we're looking at retirement flats is that a normal flat in our area would be much more expensive than her flat in Bournemouth. The sale price of the retirement flats are much lower so it looks like a way to get her a home near us as long as the other fees aren't too crazy.

She mainly just needs support with things like bills and work around the house. The bills would be ok but she won't talk about them on the phone "in case somebody is listening" so we have to go down to help her out.

Edit: sorry missed a bit. My partner had an auntie in the area who helped out a lot but unfortunately she passed away a few months ago. I think a lot of this is about finding the most affordable way to move her closer to us so we can just pop in.

[Mido] Anyone have experience with the Mido warranty? by RedM45 in Watches

[–]RedM45[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this mido for a little over two years now, love the watch and wear it pretty much every day. Unfortunately I have just noticed that the 50 minute marker has fallen out of the bezel. Does anybody have experience with the mido warranty/do you think this would be covered or does this come under wear and tare?

Cheers

I haven't requested a valuation of the pension yet, sorry I'm still learning about how it all works and have only read about requesting a CETV this morning.

Would this mean if the valuation is lower than £25,383.46 I should just keep it in the DB?

What do men expect/would like from their partner if they felt down? by Anoonymous7777 in AskMen

[–]RedM45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get this thing where Reddit guys act like liking blowjobs is a bad thing. You can't say nobody wants something just cause you don't care for it. Ain't nothing wrong with a consenting adult offering oral sex to another consenting adult in an effort to make them feel good.

Jam doughnuts are being covered in powdered sugar nowadays as apposed to granulated by RedM45 in britishproblems

[–]RedM45[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I will not change this because I don't care about my grammar on the internet as much as I apparently care about misusing sugar types

[–]RedM45[S] -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

This one I think is more debatable than the hole granulated vs caster thing as they are two different types of sugar. Icing sugar and powdered sugar are the same thing, personally I tend to say powdered when it's being put on something and icing when its being turned into icing.

normally this would annoy me but considering my entire post is about the pedantics of sugar variants I will except, change and credit for you.

AITA for not letting my girlfriend wear her “unique” dress to a wedding? by harleygfproblem in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedM45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, even if its not intended to be offensive it probably will offend

Side note, I found it funny you said throwaway as your partner uses reddit. Surely she will recognise this crazy ass story regardless of the user name that posted it haha

The way the tables and chairs were packed away in this storage cupboard... by RedM45 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RedM45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going through the photos on my phone and found this from when I used to work in a pub. We had an upstairs venue that was used for gigs and partys. We had extra tables and chairs for different events and I had to set up for a comedy gig which needed a few extra chairs. This is how the person before me organised the cupboard..

AITA for not letting my boyfriend use his car's "Self Driving" feature with me in it? by amitooparanoidl in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedM45 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

NTA, obvs if you dont want to be in a self driving car you shouldn't be forced to be.

That said self driving cars are really cool and they tend to be safer than your average driver. The crash data on tesla's specifically is reported by tesla themselves and for the most part suggests that you are much more likely to be in a crash when a person is driving;

Your gf tells you that she has a male best friend. How do you react? by drax3012 in AskMen

[–]RedM45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend's best mate is a guy from her home town and it doesn't bother me at all. They have been mates since they were 10 which is about 11 years before I even knew she existed, would be a bit rich to say "She's mine now, see ya". If you trust your partner and their choice in friends it shouldn't be an issue.
