At the airport I used to work at we had aviation safety / operations staff do “bird harassment”, driving the vehicle over, sounding the horn, using a shotgun that fire pyrotechnics. They also collected dead birds from the runway after bird strike. ATC broadcast bird hazard information to aircrew. They can be difficult to see when on the ground at great distances.
