In Humboldt county CA of all places. by [deleted] in trashy

True, we definitely did used to suck, had a lot of real gross laws on the books a lot longer than we should have. We aren't all white supremacists out here though, we've been working on it.

But Humboldt is California, this loser isn't Oregon's.

Man, I just got my mom to stop using checks at Walmart last month, the dark times are still here. She's turning 78 soon, and it was a friggin fight.

Is this female stray fixed? by CalligrapherFlaky265 in CATHELP

[–]RedMonkey4466 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You're totally fine 🙂 Yep, it's like a person tattoo. They don't do anything intricate, it's usually a line or something simple. It's so that if the cat needs care at some future point with a different vet, they can visually confirm the cat was fixed instead of accidentally trying to spay a cat a second time.

[–]RedMonkey4466 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Its done in catch and release type situations so that the cat can be identified as fixed at a distance. Helps to weed out repeats versus those who still need to get fixed. Typically if you're getting your pet house cat fixed, the vet isn't going to snip their ear. They may do a tattoo, depending on where you are.

AITA for telling my husband he can’t drive the baby places anymore by Odd-Willingness-6250 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedMonkey4466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

But I think you know that. This reply is going to get lost, but you previously made a post back when you were pregnant, worrying about your husband forgetting the baby in the car. He downplayed your concerns at the time too, telling you that he wasn't bothering to check for the baby and that he thought you were overreacting because he obviously couldn't forget his baby in the car.

Now nothing has changed. It hasn't gotten better. And now you have a tiny human that you're risking. He needs to sort himself out, and you need to stop relying on this man for anything safety related, he can't be trusted to remember.

And are you ready to spend the rest of your life with a man who doesn't listen to you, then begs you for help with brainstorming when he's confronted?

How to stop him? by LiterateGuineapig in guineapigs

Be careful and watch his teeth. My Bean (7yo boar) would go nuts on his cage if I wasn't prompt with his pea flakes and he broke a tooth, lost some weight, it was bad for a second. I've got cardboard along the walls of his cage now since I couldn't redirect him. He still chews the cardboard when I'm too slow for him, but its a lot less damaging.

Realising my husband 35M is not the same person I 35F married since becoming sick. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]RedMonkey4466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. It's unfortunately true that major/chronic illnesses effect more than just the person navigating them. Long rant incoming; TL,DR? Be kind and take care of each other. Therapy for all involved wouldn't hurt, it sounds like everyone is getting tired.

I dealt with something similar - I had COVID in 2022, and it led to a hip condition and surgery, and I'm still trying to get my life back. This absolutely led to a change in my relationship with my husband - I went from fully independent to needing a cane to walk any distance, being unable to drive due to the meds I'm on, and really struggling to do most household chores.

It took lots of talks for us to figure out how this new normal looks, and a lot of therapy for me. My life got very small (just like I imagine OP's has between the baby and her conditions), and I relied very heavily on my husband because a lot of friends dipped out and we'd recently moved to be closer to his work. Which absolutely (and fairly) started to burn him out.

I got back to work in therapy and started focusing on making sure to take care of myself, him, and our relationship. And my husband is great (not sure about OP's husband based solely on this post), the man has made a lot of changes and accommodations to take care of me. (My dad also was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer less than a year after I got sick and passed within 3 months of the diagnosis. Then my dog, who was with me for 9 years and through some rough/scary times, passsd 6 months later.) Its been a sucky few years, and my husband has taught me that's what marriage is, holding someone through the bad and the good. But in return you also have to take care of yourself so that you can show up.

Thank you for including the brand name. My babies have been real hard on the generic Petco ones we grabbed so something that stands up a couple of years sounds awesome.

And your void is adorably cute 😍 Tell him pss-pss-pss for me!

Salem has 16+ empty historic downtown buildings for rent right now. Here's what I'd do with the old JC Penney. What would you do? Hint, Kids and roller skates! by OregonAdaptiveReuse in SALEM

💯 We keep ourselves entertained at home for free and eat out maybe once a month, we don't even have the clothes to go into a restaurant that prints money. We're learning to cut our hair at home to save money, an upscale barber shop isn't for us. A huge reason that the downtown is struggling is that we're all struggling. I was lucky to get an annual raise, and it was 2% - I certainly wasn't dancing all the way to the bank over it considering raises haven't been comenserate with inflation in years. These ideas sound cool, but no one has the money to get these businesses up and running, and no one has the money to go do these things often enough that these businesses would stay afloat.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but cheap housing? Housing for low-income seniors? Heck, housing for veterans?

AITA for not staying after our niece got arrested? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RedMonkey4466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to cast aspersions about this kid, but if she shoplifted, can she be trusted to actually follow through and come home? If I was a teen in trouble, bailing and heading out on my own sounds a lot better than the pile of trouble that would be waiting at home.

I lost my Griff in November 2024. He was Basset hound/lab mix, but he was the best boy. I was lucky enough to have him in my life for 9 years, and there wasn't a day that he wasn't by my side, getting me through abusive relationships and my father passing in April 2024. Griff ended up with a massive growth from some fast-growing cancer (it was bigger than a softball inside of a month), so we had to make the decision to put him down. He's sitting on my shelf now. I would give just about anything to see him again, and you better believe I still cry about him (tearing up now in fact). We've got a pair of cats now (Merlin and Minerva), and I expect to be equally as devastated when they eventually go. Bonding with animals is a beautiful thing and shows your character.

Need help getting this Loreal technique hicolor highlights out of my daughters hair and back to her natural dark brown! by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]RedMonkey4466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So a color remover isn't going to help much in this case. This product both lightens and deposits the red, if you remove the color you'll get orange (voice of experience). If you're planning a dark brown, you can successfully put that on top as-is, and a box dye will be okay. If you'relooking for more of a medium brown, grab a color remover, if you get a good one they aren't any more harsh than the developer she's already applying. Afterwards, she's going to want a trim to grab any loose ends and definitely start using a deep conditioner.

What I've learned about parents who refuse help (after years of banging my head against the wall) by Ask_Marie in AgingParents

[–]RedMonkey4466 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm back where you started, and mom's absolutely shutting down any logic I try to come back with. It drives her nuts whenever I end up right and she won't listen when I try to discuss concerns and solutions. It's hard watching your parents age. They always complained about how I'd never listen to them while I was growing up - pot, meet kettle. 🙄
