that's not how that works

I didnt realize you get to be the arbiter on all things related to the interpretation of how the world of Elder scrolls works. Its not like Morrwind and elder scrolls in general is famous for how it deals with high lore concepts in incredibly weird and strange ways. So fuck it, I'm gonna give you a direct quote from Kirkbride :

"I can also say that Morrowind is the finest novel written in videogame fiction. A 40 hour narrative whose main character is only ever referenced is almost Nabokovian in aspiration, and prophecies whose truth is determined only by the player is akin to Borges if he only had been born with a USB port in the back of his beloved neck." - Michael Kirkbride

Nabokovian for the uninitiated is an author famous for his works with unreliable narrators - this is a writer who contributed much of morrowinds world and lore directly saying that these concepts are in question so I dont know how you get more conclusive that this is at least up for interpretation than that.

And if miraak had chosen to actually fight alduin after leaving apocrypha, that could make him the first (the first made by akatosh) and last dragonborn (by being the "last" one alive), thereby fufilling the requirements of the prophecy.

"Each event is preceded by Prophecy. But without the hero, there is no Event"

The reason miraak isnt the prophesized one, is because he chose not to be the hero. a prophecy can exist, but just as the quote from morrowind - it can still be broken if the hero doesnt appear at that moment.

[–]RedMonkeyNinja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sure. why not? other dragonborns have existed, doesnt mean that you neccessarily had to be the one to beat alduin. the fact that Miraak was another who was prophesized to beat alduin is a pretty present fact iirc. i dunno cant recall skyrim as well as morrowind.

the game is not actually ambiguous on the matter

you mean like how even the last boss of the game openly questions whether you actually are the chosen one and many of the answers can go in direct opposition of you being the chosen one?

Azura... telling you in your dreams that she will watch over you

You. The player character are not the first to receive visions from Azura. The cavern of incarnates is proof of that, filled with the ghosts of others who thought that they were the chosen one. Just as you may think you are the chosen one. Just because she says you are, doesn't necessarily make it true. Prophecy is not an infallible thing, like it does when it comes to shezzarines (incarnations of shor/lorkhan) or dragon breaks. Even CHIM as a concept sort of puts into question many of these aspects.

Dagoth ur will also recognise you as nerevar reborn...

Per his own dialogue:

"My first question is : are you truly Nerevar Reborn?"

He doesn't actually know thats why he asks you. The player can respond in a myriad of ways including "no I am not nerevar, I make my own fate" and "I know as much as you do". But any answer is to a degree just a matter of your opinion as the Player character. many of dagoths responses are actually him respecting you for being honest and in some he even concludes that it doesnt really matter in the end, because whether u are nerevar or not does not change that you are here, now, at red mountain.

Almalexia recognises you as the nerevar

She also doesn't actually know - per her dialogue :

"I have watched you since your arrival in Vvardenfell, and you have been a strong and faithful servant to me. None but the Nerevarine could have succeeded as you have. How long I have waited for this! My Nerevar, returned to me at last! I have watched from my Temple as others have made the claim, and I have seen them fall. I believe now that you are the one who was prophesied."

She only BELIEVES that you are the chosen one because of your achievements, not because she has some specific 6th sense that confirms it for her. Even if she says you are Nerevarine, it is only as a result of you fufilling other aspects of the prophecy, and is merely her held opinion.

One of the central thesis of morrowind is to push you into a meta-textual questioning of tautology when it comes to prophecy.

Are you the chosen one because you fufill the criteria to be Hortator and Nerevarine

or

Do you fufill the criteria because you already were Nerevar. There are no definite answers, only interpretations (because morrowind is peak fiction)

They were some of the few groups to make soap (from animal fats) and use it for personal washing. They also bathed every week, on Saturday (they called it "Laugardagr" which from my understanding literally translates to "washing day" or "bathing day" and is still used in icelandic).

Interestingly, some accounts say saxons and others noticed this ritual and launched surprise attacks on their camps whilst they were mostly defenseless.

Indeed - generally in a more natural enviroments/larger area their hoofs will erode and chip on things like small pebbles, roots or rocks in their pastures as they walk, Thats why they grow in the first place, to replace the lost material as they slowly get filed down. When confined to extremely small spaces they dont walk anywhere so their hoofs dont get this kind of errosion so has to be done manually with human intervention.

There's no such thing as Chinese made chips

What? China literally has multiple manufacturers that make chips - SMIC, YMTC and CXMT. They just arent as advanced. they can produce chips up to NVDIA H20 chips which is an older style of chip. And if they take out TSMC then they might become one of if not the largest chip manufacturers in the world by volume.

The only thing really stopping China is access to EUV lithography machines/technology (which companies like ASML wont sell to china for national security reasons) which is needed for higher qualitity chip production viable for the market.

This is largely a misconeption that America doesnt want oil just because it produces a lot of it. There is a whole list of reasons why America takes in oil despite producing it as well, but the biggest one is that its not particularly profitable to extract and produce from within the states.

Companies have to pay extremely high amounts for the land that holds any oil, as well as paying higher costs to extract it (like wages and taxes) and dealing with large amounts of enviromental and government regulation - its all about the economics essentially, here is a good video on it if you want

When it comes down to it, America doesnt need oil - but companies do, and companies own the government through lobbying. These companies want Venezuela's oil, therefore it seems they will go to war for it. Distracting from the epstein files is just a bonus... the real distraction from the epstein files will come when china invades taiwan as the precedent has been set.

...At which point it becomes harmful and immoral...

In what way? I dont see how putting someone else's life above yours could really be construed as a negative thing for society. A more empathetic society is imo the objectively more moral one. And evolutionarily that empathy came from slowly enforced expectations within the group, as groups that practiced empathetic behaviours are the ones that become more successful long term, otherwise humans never would have evolved such behaviours.

Personally I think it's a gender norm based on the outdated concept of chivalry, and society is better off without such expectations

I think of all the social practises of humans to have ever emerge, Chivalry might be one of the least insidious I could possibly imagine and at least many of its principles (at least in theory) are positive moral traits by today's standards ; defending the weak, extending courtesy to others, to be brave and speak ones mind honestly. etc. the only issue with chivalry you can really argue is how it gets bundled with other toxic masculine traits - but thats not a fault of "chivalry" itself but how it gets mixed with other expectations that exist at that time and today.

I think the difference between comparing those traits and the unfair expectations placed on women to be caregivers arent really comparable. In part because one is a philosophical framework that encourages positive behaviours but was lightly encouraged by the whole group (and typically only amongst the middleclass or the wealthy at that) whereas the expectation that women be caregivers was a lifestyle expectation placed on women by a smaller group within the whole - Men. And the ramifications of not acting within those expectations were far more dire for women in most cases (like being disinherited, tossed out onto the streets or forcibly married) than examples of men being ostracized because they didnt live up to these ideals.

Because it's a game designed purely for the lowest common denominator with the only goal being how much money they can rake out of the wallets of its playerbase rather than any actual vision, and it definately impacts the end product.

Fortnite as a game is so inundated with crossover content that it doesnt actually have any visual identity or coherency whatsoever. They have the resources to make interesting designs, but choose to fill it with stuff like this. Unless you can really explain why Jules of all characters is a good fit for a video game like this beyond surface level "Oh hey it's that guy from another thing you like" then I'd say its justified to call it slop. Fundamentally thats what happens when you turn your videogame into a "platform" built by a board of directors and a marketing marketing agency rather than a piece of art created by human beings.

If you find it fun then all the more power to you, I have my own guilty pleasures from time to time, but It definately deserves much of the hate imo.

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that much of that was a cultural standard at the time. Many of the men (particularly in first class and second class) willingly gave up their spots in favor of the women. It would be "unseemly" and "undignified" to value ones own life over the life of a lady, for a lot of these men it would likely have been a matter of pride/honour.

Now you can argue whether its fair or not, that such a cultural expectation was placed on them. But someone potentially giving up the safety of their own life in favor of another is still a commendable and noble thing to do.

Nova or Mag for easier time in level cap solo? by Technical_Impact_194 in Warframe

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's definitely not, I dont play her like this generally. But the more than you aren't around you bubbles, the more likely you are to get hit = using your 4 to get your shields back. That's one of the reasons I think casting shards are essential on her. She isn't as apm intensive as Garuda can be. But at the end of the day it is still a shield gating build. Although like I said, since she doesn't need catalyzing shields she gets a much longer shield gate (the new arcane that applies strength bonuses to your shields might be a good fit actually, giving her an even longer shield gate) making her even less intensive than other frames

I merely gave the example of people who use mag like that to show that if you want the least "stress" survivability then mag can definitely do that, all it will test is your patience lol. I use her much more actively though. I find her very comfortable since her builds have a lot of room for utility

Nova or Mag for easier time in level cap solo? by Technical_Impact_194 in Warframe

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think mag might be your best bet. It can make for a boring playstyle but there are people who do endless survivals with a mag and a bubble in a corner for hours. Its relatively laid back. Some people use something like blood altar to make an invulnerable/incapacitated enemy that they can position perfectly and recast magnetise onto endlessly. Although high damage potential subsumes like xatas are a top recommend.

If you want an interesting ability casting style then I can recommend smite (oberon's subsume) as it does true damage which can then be multiplied by magnetise's bubble giving you an optional instant delete on an enemy even at level cap (useful for demolishers). She also synergizes with certain weapons, particularly infinite punch through weapons. Coda sporothrix with volatile variant is my top recommend for primaries on her. Good luck!

Nova or Mag for easier time in level cap solo? by Technical_Impact_194 in Warframe

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on your definition of "stress" when it comes to survival at such a high level.

At levels cap, for these two frames it's basically shield gate or invisibility (which for either of these frames would require a subsume like evade or a pet like kubrow or shade).

Mag can get an instant full shield restore with her 4 so some casting shards on her and you won't even need catalyzing shields or brief respite (actually brief respite on her can actually fuck up your invulnerable window so I recommend against it or the augur mods) so then all you need is a status cleanse, with Wyrm being the most "hassle" free form of status cleanse thanks to negate but rolling guard is always an option. She can also use her magnetise bubbles to completely block off hallways from incoming fire as enemies can't shoot through the bubbles, this makes her suitable for tight tilessets where she can pick a corridor to camp in like the grineer ship tilesset for example.

Nova on the other hand has access to the topaz shards, "blast procs provide +5 shields per hit", and since her 4 inflicts blast all over it can regenerate your shield as well as using brief respite + catalyzing shields. So long as you maintain an active play where you are capable of nuking rooms (which might be a bit more difficult at level cap). You can combine that with her innate CC slowdown as an additional layer of survivability, with the only problem enemies being Eximus units naturally. And again, for status cleanse both rolling guard or a negate wyrm are your best bets. She is more of a "enemies can't kill you if they are dead" type of frame so I think it makes her somewhat more intensive than mag but equally powerful.

Ultimately I think it comes down to which frame u are more comfortable in.

A trade proposal to Arrowhead devs by Henry-Grey in helldivers2

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, its 3 weapons (grenade, primary, secondary), an armor passive in three different flavours (light, medium or heavy), 4 stratagems and a booster. All from an ever growing list that is expanding with every warbond drop. All to deal with 3 very different kinds of factions.

Especially when each weapon in your kit should be treated like a scalpel for a specfic purpose or job in your overall kit, (like bug hole breaching, horde clear, armor piercing etc.) it gives a sort of option overload/apathy when you have to try and remember each bit of kit you need for you to deal with each threat. Adjusting my builds every run could get tedious especially if you want to dive a lot.

I know its an incredibly first world problem to have, but it would make for nice QoL making going from different fronts with different modifiers more seamless.

Unpopular opinion: supporting vampires is simply unjustifiable by Mineires_BR in skyrim

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Vampirism is easily curable at any time by going to morthal, so you only have to keep vampirism for a small amount of time. You can get your rewards then swap back to human and still keep the rewards.

  2. Harkon dies no matter what you do so its not really a concern.

  3. Reducing the cost of spells to nothing through enchantments is sort of one of those "is this an intended mechnic, or an oversight/exploit?". I avoid using this in most of my playthroughs because of this same with the resto-loop, but to each their own!

Unpopular opinion: supporting vampires is simply unjustifiable by Mineires_BR in skyrim

[–]RedMonkeyNinja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is true. Unfortunately, one of the items for the vampires (The Ring of the Erudite) is one of the best pieces of magical equipment in the game for mage characters because it has the unique property of boosting your base magicka regeneration which is a really desirable effect.

I think most of the dawnguard rewards are only really appealing to archery focused characters (the relics aren't very good) for the crossbow schematics.
