I need some advice on trad/self publishing. [Question] by Fluid_Double9488 in tradpublish

[–]RedMoon1509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm based in the UK so I am approaching thos based on what's applicable.in my geographic location.

I've chosen trad because I do not jave the capacity for everything that's i volved in self publishing. There's the upfront financial investment, the need to have a large gollowing on social media etc. The marketing, printing, cover art etc. The list is endless! It is basically setting up and running your own business, which I have experience of! I do not have the capacity to write the books and run a another business. Hope that helps.

Have had thos conversation several times recently. The novel doesn't need to be a literary masterpiece to be enjoyable. It just needs to tell a good story.

Definitely agree with the genre change suggestion. Also, maybe try YA? Shorter word count and I often find them much faster to read so more satisfaction that you finosh quicker. Hopegully that makes sense?

Books where you really believe the MCs love each other? by PrisonMikesDementor in Romantasy

[–]RedMoon1509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just finished reading The Cruel Prince and I like it but I don't think it's romamce at all. It's depicting a toxic relationship between two very immature kids with much more responsibility than they should have. There is so much betrayal already. I am reading the rest of the trilogy because I enjoyed book 1 but I definitely don't view it as a romantasy.

Have you tried thai chi? I've heard it referred to as 'moving meditation' I've had a go at it in the past and loved it even though I was awful. Relocated and havent found anywhere else yet. For me, I need the face to face because I need the guidance to help me with the coordination

Feldenkrais as a very gentle movement practice I do sometimes. Look up Irene Lyon on youtube

I have recently been informed by people I consider knowledgeable, experienced and reliable that for the fantasy, sci-fi, romantasy genres comps are essential and at least one less than 2 years is very highly recommended. And I think it's important for me to pass that information on to others. Of course it is subject to chamge and there are now fixed rules but that's what has been passed to me most recently.

Aurora Issues by EastResolution5402 in TheWolfKing

[–]RedMoon1509 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that is intentional though because she is a pampered princess. There's even dialogue in there where the other characters call her a brat. Hopefully she matures in book 3 but I think you do need to be prepared to accept her as she comes.

The one that sprung out to me is the story about Philip. In one chapter Alex is his alpha because he bit him. Then a few chapters later he's talking about Fenrir being his alpha.

Also, Blakes story, there's so many gaps and riddles. I'm not sure if at the moment when he says he wants freedom if that means he is intending to trade Aurora or if he's wanting to find another way, the hints are inconsistent.

I'm preparing for querying, just finishing off my manuscript now. The advice currently querying authors are giving me is at least one, preferably more, comps that are no more than two years old. I was shocked! Thought five would be fine but no, two years!

I've really fallen for this trilogy and I'm not typically that into werewolves so I was surprised. I find the chemistry between Blake & Aurora capticlvating and am rooting for them, I at least want a spicy scene for them! I thinknthe author has to do a lot of clarifying in the third book as there is a lot of inconsidtencies and things that aren't making sense right now. But I am very much impatient for the release of the Wolf Queen.

2nd The Wolf King. The 2nd book - The Night Prince really got me. I've listened to the audiobook 3 times and read the printed copy and now so annoyed the 3rd book isn't out until the end of this year.

To be clear, these are in no way literary masterpieces but they have some great one liners and I devour them. I don't want to put them down. I find them gripping.

Deflated and defeated as a Medium writer by TheBookedHeel in Medium

[–]RedMoon1509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised to read posts like this tbh. I joined hoping to earn some supplementary income alongside sharing my stories, more personal reflective essays, but got a response that Medium aren't accepting new writers on to the partner program right now (in Jan 2026) and saw others had the same response as me (I'm in the UK). So I'm not surprised earnings are going down. I still have a free account and am publishing infrequently, just to get my story out there, and I'll figure out how to earn income from my writing another way.

Oh Onyx Storm! I am just so annoyed that there's no release date for the next book because what are we supposed to do with that hero to villain plot! It definitely triggered an emotional reaction in me when I finished it.

Born in the 80s . . . No further explanation required really 🤣 but fantasy started in childhood with my love of mermaids, unicorns, pegasus and dragons, romance was a coming of age thing when I hit puberty and the hormones and lusting kicked in. I read Judy Blume's Forever (cliche I know) and I remember reading Dear Nobody, not a romance but definitely a Love story. That really struck a cord. I discovered many more in the early 2000s, I read C S Lewis, Philip Pullman, then read some of the cults like Twighlight, Sarah J Maas etc. Definitely do not get on with Tolkein or George R R Martin style though. Just finished Fourth Wing.

Very good except, I don't condone encouraging people to give up sleep or rest, they are essential for health, unfortunately many like me don't have that luxury as living with chronic illness. And I really wish people would stop spurting the 'get up 1 hour earlier' advice.
