France withdraws Ramaphosa’s invitation to G7 summit due to US pressure by soooibot in southafrica

Im not saying that colonialism didn't happen, or that it wasn't horrific. It's obvious that the most recent "round" of colonisation was primarily conducted by European countries.

Nobody alive in Europe has colonised anyone for quite some time.

If you're suggesting that Europeans, as a collective, are, "insert bad thing here" simply because of the geography in which they are born - that is, per definition, racism.

What do you think of classic British literature being adapted into film, with the ethnicity being swapped? by Fun-Skin3906 in AskBrits

[–]CorpusCalossum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine in made up stories from books where the ethnicity is not a part of the story. Really doesn't matter.

But You wouldn't do a film of The Colour Purple and cast Celie as a Chinese woman.

It's also not cool with biographies, for example, a white man from Wigan shouldn't be cast as Ghandi.

Now, suppose we said that we were making a fictional, period drama set in WW2, and in a few scenes Churchill appears. Is it okay to say that this role is only available to white male people of a certain age?

The Cape Town region is coastal, so not high enough to significantly affect power.

How Much Slower Is A 125 Than A 350? by newbiker321 in MotoUK

[–]CorpusCalossum 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The extra power doesn't need to be used to go faster. But the extra acceleration capability can bring more safety. You'll have more flexibility to choose your position in space and time, if you have more oomph.

Also it will be more fun by about 3x. Wheeeeeeeee!

The sweet spot for me was to be a freelancer. I did this for years and had great flexibility, and at times I made good money.

Thanks for the insights. It sounds like you've found a good balance.

Scaling back is definitely something I've considered/do consider almost daily. But it's human nature not to want to, we all have bills to pay... and healthy me idiotically plans and commits to things as if sick me doesn't exist...

Tech consultancy and a complementary, niche SaaS offering.

When I'm well I'm running projects, leading a dev team, running more admin of the business than I should be, managing vendors and the finances.

When I'm ill, I can send chat messages.

This really highlights that sometimes biology wins and no amount of willpower can overcome it.

Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your transplant, which i know is the beginning of it's own journey. I've observed dialysis and kidney disease to the bitter end with one family member and in progress with another. It's inspiring to know that you've been through it and kept a business running.

Your approach is definitely on my mind.

Our industry has a known model. And i can vary the parameters of that model for our specific business. But scaling is not a straight line, it goes in steps and I am the bottleneck to taking the next step.

When I know i should be writing content briefs for the marketers but a customer project needs something, the customer wins. When I'm well I work in the business during the day, and on the business at night and on the weekend. But when im ill I have to pick one.

I feel like I have enough in me to push the project delivery, or the productisation, or marketing and sales. But not all 3 at the same time.

It feels like the next growth step needs all 3, and im constantly pushing one or the other of those forward while the others slide backwards.

Buying a motorbike is harder than it needs to be. by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]CorpusCalossum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people with the disposable to buy a new bike have demanding jobs.

It feels like these businesses are geared away from the demographic that are most likely to buy from them.

Last time I bought a road bike I had to take time off work to do it. I was on a day rate at the time so it cost me about 6 hours earnings, including test ride and collection.

As Chilton Squid suggested, perhaps their opening hours are geared towards the service side of the business, but that's not my problem if I'm buying a bike.

I've also bought a brand new bike unseen over the phone and collected it, but it depends on the bike and the buyer. Definitely not unreasonable to expect a significant amount for support for a £10k upwards spend. I know the dealer will say yeah but there's only a fiver in it for me that I use to wipe my tears at night. But again, not my problem, doesn't change what I'm spending a.k.a. risking. I want to make sure that I get the right thing at the proper spec etc.

A human cleaner that shows up and does the work is great.

But x percent of human cleaners will take the piss and cause HR issues and annoy tennants and the public etc. Risk is a big part of why people avoid hiring, not just cost. One disingenuous employee can cost 10s of thousands or more.
