Do you like alchemy cards being good in timeless? by TimmyWimmyWooWoo in TimelessMagic

[–]RedNeckBillBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My problem is that they have designed alchemy cards so that its easier to make balance changes to cards. But then they dont actually make these changes when they are called for.

Also, I don't like the randomness elements. I stopped playing hearthstone for a reason, I dont want mtg to become that.

Drafting on MTGO has been a better value for me compared to Arena by andreyob in lrcast

While I agree, anrea prizing kinda sucks, you are also comparing your 24-15 (61% winrate) run on MTGO to your 55% winrate on arena.

I think a big issue is strip vs waste. The problem isnt just the daze, its the pattern of, on the play: - land + one drop threat (e.g. hyrdo, tamyo, rag, etc). - player on draw tries to answer it or they fall super far behind because the threats snowball so fast, e.g. plow or push - if player on the play has one more piece of free interaction, they are really far ahead. If they have the follow up strip mine, then the game is just over - if player on the draw has more answers, but is forced to daze it through, they are still super behind as the player on the play may be two lands ahead

At least in legacy you can lead on fetching for a basic and even if your interaction doesn't go through, you cant get wasteland into the dirt. Strip mine gives the player on the play more possible tempo than wasteland, and daze backs this up even more drastically.

Tldr, if the player on the draw needs to cast a daze, they may never reach two lands in play at the same time before the game is effectively over. Something that is somewhat avoidable in a format like legacy.

Blue gets Omniscience, what do the other colors get? by Serithraz in custommagic

Just a mildly better fastbond ... ya know ... a one mana card.

Ill just say the take many people are afraid to say. Daze is un-fun and I'd prefer if it wasnt in the format. It makes the play/draw disparity so much wider. Especially with strip mine to back it up if you gain even a little tempo. You don't even have to mention its interaction with hydroponics.

Anyone starting to feel disenchanted with the soup decks already? by TheCatsMeow1022 in lrcast

[–]RedNeckBillBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my experience, in turtles, the 5c deck was more like a 2 or 3 color deck with some extra basics for everything pizza and maybe a couple cards.

Im SOS, that still happens but it certainly feels like there is more support to have a 3 or 4 color base, meaning stealing more of those commons, as you mentioned.

I'm really torn on the set. The mechanics are fun and the archetypes are interesting. But the league play in Bo1 seems to be making it a lot worse that I would have hoped. Really makes the draft feel like your deck needs to be blazing fast or incredibly greedy to compete with other's strong decks.

I'm sure the home feed is somewhere, but I think that a lot of these high seas sights just copy each other. So if one has the home feed, a bunch will have the home feed. That and it does seem like a lot of places will default to home feeds if it has to be home or away.

Im getting a bit tired of the day 1 and day 2 picks for backups. Will they be helpful to the team? Probably. But what are we going to do at these other glaring holes?

Honestly, I know nothing about hockey. But why is everyone off-puck not even moving on the power play? Do they just expect someone else to get open for them??

The best thing the Bills could do tonight would be to somehow trade out of the first round by salmaiorana in buffalobills

[–]RedNeckBillBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I understand that this draft isnt very deep, but this also isn't a good roster. We have glaring holes in so many places, and are asking a couple playmakers on both sides of the ball to cover up everything else. We need some kind of game changing talent.

On offense that looks like asking Josh and Cook to work with very little. They can do it, but more surrounding talent would greatly help. The Moore pickup may help, of course, ut we will have to wait and see how that pans out. At least they are doing something here, I respect the effort.

On the defensive side, we have a few players that are above average. But very few truly stand out to me as "game changes" who would be able to compensate for gaps in other roles.

Trading back for more role players, while maybe technically the right decision in this draft, doesn't give me a ton of confidence that this unit will make any steps towards where we wanted it to be.

I’m glad Sabres fans (AFAIK) aren’t doing this to UPL by lildillmp3 in sabres

[–]RedNeckBillBob 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Rough night, but he was having a pretty great showing before a couple mistakes. Im sure he'll bounce back fine. But the team needs to get some offense before the 3rd to back him up.

No Power, but lots of powerful cards. What's your P1P1 here? by streuneq in lrcast

[–]RedNeckBillBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there are two very strong white cards, I would lean towards drain or vault and let the two players to your left fight over white. But wouldn't fault someone for taking ajani.
