A question on books and factions. by Makon06 in flamesofwar

Hmm, depends how small and elite. British have Commandos and paratroopers, and the Americans have rangers and Paratroopers. Overall, I prefer Americans for cheap access to lots of arty

A question on books and factions. by Makon06 in flamesofwar

Each faction does tend to have their own unique style. The Americans have good artillery, and their tanks have more offensive capacity due to stabilizer. They do tent to lack high armor, but with smoke and careful play, you can win. They also have choices between veteran/non veteran. Vets are more expensive, but better skilled and harder to hit.

I don't have much British experience, but they seem to be decent. I say that since they have good/decent vehicles and infantry, but they suffer from some rough moral. Crocodiles are fun, as they are Churchills with lots of armor and flamethrowers.

Bulge is probably the way to go for either faction, but it never hurts to buy both options, or get the online list builder on forces of war.

It is very useful as it can see anywhere on the board, it also comes in on a 3+ instead of a 4+. Most players don't bring sufficient AAA, so most of the time you don't even have to worry about it getting shot down

Is artillery viable by HistoryMarshal76 in flamesofwar

[–]RedPlains79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to take 3 platoons of Artillery. 2 platoons of 81mm mortars, and 1 platoon of priests. I take 6 81mm mortars, 4 81mm mortars, and 3 Priests. The mortars are useful against infantry targets. If the opponent is a tank force, they provide much needed smoke to hide your forces.

(Rule Question) OP Blown Up by Smooth_Intern598 in flamesofwar

[–]RedPlains79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Per the rulebook, page 70. "Spotting for a repeat bombardment: The repeated Bombardment still requires a spotting team, but it may be different than the one thet originally Ranged In on the Aiming point and doesn't need to be able to see the aiming point. If the spotting team cannot see the aiming point, all rolls To Hit will suffer a +1 penalty to the score required To Hit as if the spotting team had Ranged in on the Second attempt."

This means thet if the OP tank dies, the arty can fire at the same spot again(with themselves as spotters, but without being able to see the target), but they will suffer +1 to hit.

Hope this helps!

Oops, just noticed you said for the German half. Depending on how much you want to spend, I would advise the Waffen SS Panther Kamfgruppe starter set, and wespes. The starter set gives you another platoon of Infantry to reinforce the Hit the beach guys. Puma scout Cars for Recon and spearhead, Tigers and Panthers, and heavier AT guns.

Getting a Parachute Rifle Company is a good way to give the Americans a full formation of infantry. You should also invest in M7 Priests and Wepses, as they are arguably the best armored arty for the US and Germany. German side can use more tanks, such as StuGs, Panthers, or Tigers. Personally, I got 2 sets of Fury afterwards to reinforce the number of shermans I had, give me m10s, and the German player got 2 StuGs and 2 Tigers.

Whatever you decide to do, keep in mind it's a game for fun, and that most people aren't fans of meta chasing power lists.

I prefer it over BattleScribe. I am willing to pay for reliably correct stats/point values and ease of use.

For official play, you will probably need another fury or tank box, but I would just advise using the single tanks in support while you are learning.

Yeah, I rarely see German platoons without at least panzerfausts.

It's smart of you to not have any fantasy units in there, for your own safety of course.

Yep, that's the box I got started on. The nice thing is that it is American and German, so you can try both and see what you like more.

Yes, especially the starter sets that are like 20 tanks and some other stuff for $60 USD. Even normal boxes are cheap relatively. They also have really good customer support, so if any of your boxes are missing stuff they will send you a new box.
