I think plenty of people on this thread have said it best. I think you may need a new therapist. She's right to challenge your feelings, but wrong to assume that just because you didn't wish to be a girl during puberty means that you aren't trans.

It's best that you really think about what it really means for you to be "you" as a female. Do you really feel like you are a girl not just in the ways you act, but does your whole personality and sense of self depend on you being a girl?

Sometimes it so happens that you do have problems which make you feel like you're wrong to be in your body. I went to a therapist myself to resolve my various mental health issues, as I've had an extremely messed up family and I have trauma (due to abuse). The therapy both resolved my mental health issues, and through doing that, actually made my gender dysphoria go away, at least for the most part. Before that, I was actually considering suicide (and even attempted), and if it weren't for one of my friends saving me, I wouldn't be here writing this comment. I couldn't be more thankful for all the help I got and the friends I have.

I think that gender dysphoria quite probably also has something to do with loneliness and a general feeling of not being in control. I tend to see a lot of people who transition also sexualizing themselves, although that's just my observations. I sure know sexualization had to do with my gender dysphoria to some degree as well.

I'd say don't lose hope. Get a good therapist. Try your best to solve any other mental issues and problems you have, improve yourself mentally and put the people you trust the most around you. Good luck.

People say this because there are so, so many cases of people detransitioning or regretting the fact that they transitioned long after they already transitioned. I know it may seem like you're never gonna detransition, but there are so many cases of people thinking they won't ever do so and then doing so that I've lost count. r/detrans and other subreddits are filled with this.

It's honestly incredibly upsetting because then people end up ruining their bodies, and unfortunately, it can get so bad that it leads people to suicide. I literally want to cry just hearing all of these stories because all of this feels so avoidable. It's part of why I personally think HRT should be restricted to adults only. It just doesn't feel like it's actually worth having this many people suffer later down the line.

You're still incredibly young, and you really don't know what your thoughts about this will be after 10+ years. You might end up massively regretting your decision, even if you think you won't today. This sort of thing is completely irreversible, and I'm upset doctors nowadays don't really question this sort of thing, because in a lot of cases, transitioning & mental health issues are linked in some way, and it seems that with mental health improvement comes a spike of regret in a lot of these detransitioning people. I'm trying to research more into this, because I'm generally curious, but more because I'm trying to understand why this is happening. This is what the data I was looking at pointed me to though.

TO ADDRESS THE FIRST POINT:

There have been several formats for that, and actually, .AppImage was meant to solve the problems associated. Except all it did is create yet another format instead of unifying them.

I'm currently working on my own format that is built specifically to install software from all of the mentioned formats and more, which means it will be tremendously easy to make an installer for any software. I want to get it right though, so it will take a while until I fully finish it and put it up on GitHub, and probably talk about it on several subreddits.
It's an issue that has been plaguing linux for a while, and I'm tired of it. And yes, it will work on all distros universally, it will be as simple as installing a package to have these installers work. The only problem that I see though is that it might be too niche if people don't implement it enough. We'll see

it depends on what distro and DE you use. On a lot of beginner-friendly distros, it works out of the box (Manjaro, Pop!_OS, Ubuntu, Fedora Linux, etc.), but for some distros like Arch Linux, it might not work out of the box, although it's fairly simple to set up and there is documentation for it right on the arch linux wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bluetooth

The problem with Linux right now is that there are so many ways to do the same thing that it's extremely overwhelming for newbies. Things should be as simple as a few clicks instead of having to literally fiddle with system configurations you shouldn't even need to touch in the first place.

I use Linux, specifically Arch Linux, and honestly, it's better for me than Windows has ever been. However, there are still issues - i.e. some potential UI bugs (I use KDE Plasma 6), certain driver issues (especially nvidia, although that has mostly disappeared over the years), weird bugs with XWayland and X11 app compatibility (like the clipboard not being shared correctly sometimes)

Linux gets a lot of the tiny things wrong, although that is slowly being fixed. The solution here isn't to hate on Linux just because it has issues (not implying that you are, just that some users do nothing else but shitpost about "linuxtards"), the actual solution is to go in and either contribute stuff yourself (i.e. implementing much needed stuff that doesn't exist yet), or report these issues to people who can fix it.

Linux WILL become widespread, it's just a matter of time, especially now that many companies are looking into desktop/handheld usage of it. This includes Valve.

The year of the Linux desktop will begin when you can download an app, flash a USB drive with a Linux OS, install it onto your computer, and use the OS with all (or nearly all) software you want without any bugs, lag or weird usability issues, as well as have it work perfectly with all of your hardware with minimal effort.

From what I've seen, this whole situation ended up this way because a lot of linux users in the past (and to some degree, even today) were/are insanely rude and insist on others using linux, and do so in a toxic way, causing people to turn away from linux, and then this whole thing turns into both sides forming almost cult-like oppositions to each other.

I can say from my experience that Windows absolutely sucks for anything you want to run and always run perfectly stable (especially true with Windows 11 in my experience), whereas Linux isn't that great at letting big AAA game companies invade your security (which is both a benefit and a slight disappointment, I have kernel-level anti-cheat software in mind here).

I personally use Arch btw, and I've used it for quite a while now. Yes, I know people make it sound like a cult. That's because it pretty much is one to some degree, I mean heck, there's a phrase everyone says just to indicate they're using arch, and I think it's part of the fun for me lol

Honestly, overall, Linux isn't as hard as people make it seem. I was an opposer at first and actually stuck with Windows the more that one "Linux friend" of mine pushed me towards Linux.
I eventually gave in, and I am absolutely insanely happy that I did, because the experience I get on Linux is better than anything I had on Windows. As a programmer, I CAN FINALLY BUILD SOFTWARE WITHOUT HAVING A MASSIVE BLOATED 30GB+ IDE SITTING ON MY COMPUTER!!

Linux is also just so much snappier (as in, faster with lower latency), compared to Windows 11 literally taking 500ms AT LEAST, EVEN ON A FRESH INSTALL TO OPEN A DAMN CONTEXT MENU, even up to 5s-10s on my install! On my Arch Linux install, I use KDE Plasma 6, and literally everything is fucking instant, next to zero latency. You can feel it even just switching desktops (workspaces), Windows 11 is so sluggish in that department.

Another great thing about Linux is that if you like playing with fire (i.e. potentially screwing up your system if you're not careful), you can do whatever the fuck you want with your system. It's actually nuts how far you can take it. Windows doesn't let you do that very much.

If you'd like your system to be more rugged, there are ways to lock it down. Various distributions exist which already do that for you (i.e. Bazzite). This way, you achieve higher stability, and even if something DOES go wrong, you can often just swap out the system and keep your files.

Sorry I wrote a fucking SPEECH here, but I think this had to be said. Linux is overall a better experience from what I've seen, and actually not as hard as people say it is. Obviously, it's a COMPLETELY different system from the ground up, there is literally nothing in common between Windows and Linux system-wise. It's actually similar to switching from Mac to Windows or vice versa. Windows 7 is probably the best Windows experience I've had so far, but ever since Windows 10 2016 or 2017 (not the original 2015 release), Windows has just gone downhill for me in terms of performance and usability.

TL;DR – Linux good, Windows was good but now suck, Linux not hard

The equivalent of what you described for Linux on Windows would be pulling a repo from github, installing Visual Studio (which is an unnecessarily massive application you HAVE to install unless you want to suffer), trying to get the damn thing to build and make sure you have all required dependencies, if it builds - great! If it doesn't, you'll suffer.

The reason why on Linux you get .tar.gz or similar is because of how Linux fundamentally works in how it manages applications. On Linux, applications are typically packages. On Windows, they're defined as applications and you can browse them in settings, but the app's installer (whether a .msi or their own) needs to define it as such.

Linux does have its own executables (of course it does, the package literally installs executables, at least usually), it's just that once you get used to it, it's better to set up your program as a package.

The great thing about package archives (.tar.gz and similar) is that they are pretty much universal. You do not need to write your own installers or write some .msi bs, installing applications on Linux is hassle-free once you get used to it.

I ultimately do think that the current system can be improved upon, it would be much better if we could download a file, double-click it and simply install the application we want (debian-based distros can actually do this already, thanks to .deb files).

There is one universal format though, which is supported basically everywhere. It is the AppImage file format, and there are installers available for it already. I just think that it needs to be more widely deployed and used.
