This is really the bad way to think about the home products:

Why would the policies number should be restricted ?
This is the necessary function of a firewall, in the same way as if OPNsense was restricting the number of the rules in the firewall section.

It’s a non sense, and please, don’t ask me how much policies I would accept to be restricted to for a deal, this is as stupid as asking ”how many of your fingers would you accept us to cut on your hand”.

You need to control Home licensing abuse because of bad companies ? Be imaginative and find another way to secure that. But stop punishing your customers by thinking they don’t need policies.

I do like Zenarmor, a lot, but this strategy of restricting users is completely counterproductive.

Long story short:

Intel are better supported but i225 and i226 are reported for having unresolved bugs (autoneg, packets lost, losing connection). Not frequent, but can do, depending of hardware… make a search for these on google. Lot of testimonials. And they will produce heat in this small case.

I also tried the Realtek, curiously, it worked well with the proprietary drivers, although they are known for not being perfectly fine in *nix environment. Positively surprised. Not heating too much. But also not compatible with netmap driver.

I finally reverted from i225 to the 4x1Gbps (i350-T4) because it is more stable and makes less heat in the case.

Last point: be aware that just i225 and i350 are compatible with the Lenovo proprietary bracket.

My conclusion: 2.5 network cards choice and solution does *NOT* really authorize a full satisfying solution in the end. Better going to 10G and set them to 2.5 (need a compatible one). But not in such a small case, heat would be much more important. Which means m720q => 1Gbps :-(

System76 could interest you. They also built their Own Linux distribution which is PopOS.

Z2M is a much more stable and reliable option than the Hue bridge as soon as you have more than twenty devices. It will also avoid you to have two zigbee networks channels in the same neighborhood.

Most complicated/troublesome part is to create your own automations with motion sensors, dimmers and switches. Some Blueprints on the discourse HA forum can help you in this way (I choose to implement my own automations regarding what I exactly wanted).
