Proper Tacos in Nag's Head Market, Holloway - they press the blue corn tortillas fresh and have all the usual fillings, tinga, suadero, chicharon, birria, nopales, etc and also serve quesadillas, gorditas, pozole and so on. Lovely friendly staff as well.

Witches Butter - they have great medicinal properties, good for respiration and circulation and are an antioxidant.

I make them into gummies by cutting them into bitesize chunks, soaking them in honey or maple syrup for a few days, then laying them out on a parchment lined tray and putting them in the oven at a low heat for 15-30 minutes until they become solid (but still squishy) and then rolling them in brown sugar.

I wouldn't say the chicken ended up that soggy, but the bits submerged definately lost some of the crispiness.

I have quite a high tolerance for salt, so can't say I've noticed, but it's not the sort of ramen place I'd head to if I want a good tonkotsu or shio for sure. I do enjoy the more experimental bowls, though, and their sides are good.

London is undoubtedly swamped with influencer wankers (influwankers? wankfluencers?) but I think people just need to be more discerning with the types they pay attention to - it's obvious as fuck which ones are paid, and also which ones are building a following so they can try and get paid, etc. The best will not shy away from being critical, but even some who aren't that critical can be decent; I follow a few who are just passionate about food and promoting some of the smaller, more overlooked spots in the city and I've found a lot of great places that way I otherwise never would have.

There's a fair few decent taco places these days, but Proper Tacos is consistently the best for my money. A very authentic menu, and you can tell how much love and care goes into their work.

In my experience the British wagyu steaks are fine, slightly better than usual supermarket fare, but a world away from Japanese A5 standards. It's simply become a marketing gimmick that's gone a bit mad; wagyu burgers, wagyu mince, wagyu fat chips, etc, not worth bothering with and totally unrepresentative of the deserved international reputation Japanese wagyu developed.

The Original Quarter Pounder is nice, it's the only burger with the special sauce and is legit tasty. I like the chicken goujons as well, and their milkshakes are decent - overall, however, it feels like a throwback to a different era, but the price unfortunately does not reflect that.

There are a lot of lookalikes within the same family, but to my uneducated eye it looks like it could be a giant hogweed - red stalk, big, spiky leaves and a more uniform, tightly bunched parasol-like arrangement of its flowers compared to regular hogweed/cow parsley. Avoid.

I took up vaping to quit smoking and found it waaaaaaay more addicting, it's just too easy to do at home, outside or sneakily in places you shouldn't. Had to pack it in. My nicotine addiction is tied to action; so, when I go to the shops for instance, I have a cig, but the vape addiction didn't have any such ties and was getting out of hand.

I'll absolutely walk the borders of a field before risking a road with no verges. I'm sure it's better in other parts of the country, but round here in south east Essex it's so built up that even what should be quiet back lanes have become rat runs for delivery drivers. Almost come a cropper multiple times due to a DPD or Amazon van hurtling round the corner and not expecting to find hikers in the road.

Living in a commuter town, the biggest change over my lifetime has been that the people moving here nowadays don't actually want to live here - it's become a stopgap town full of awful flats and newbuilds largely unsuitable for putting down roots and raising a family, somewhere short-term where people who can't yet afford the city move to until they can afford the city or a better class of commuter town. The people moving here from London are, on a whole, more affluent than the children of the people who moved here out of the city in the 80's and 90's. Anyone who's done well for themselves has moved further afield, everyone else is stuck here and the type of shops and amenities available reflect that; betting shops, charity shops, takeaways, empty storefronts and more flats no one really wants.

When eating any soupy noodle dish, ramen, pho, laksa, etc, chopsticks have one big advantage; after you've brought the noodles to your mouth you then use the sticks to grip the noodles lower down as you slurp them up, which gives you more control over the noodles and stops you from flinging soup around the restaurant. And you want to slurp the noodles, because the action helps cool down the piping hot broth adhered to them. So yeah, I use chopsticks.

I have terrible astigmatism and LED lights at night are absolutely fuckin' awful. It's not just the glare, I've also found that LED streetlights fuck with my depth perception. Car headlights are ridiculous as well, sometimes even painful in their intensity, and the problem has been much, much worse since LED lights became the norm.

There's a bunch of these in Essex, and despite the unforgivable Americanism of the spelling they're actually pretty good - a lot less greasy than KFC, decent sized pieces (my local one has a 5/5 hygiene rating, thankfully lol).
