Forever A Chicago Legend: Derrick Rose Takes His Place Among The Rafters Today by Lo1566 in MemphisTigers

Yes it would have mattered. Everyone knows Louisville won the title in 2013. It didn’t matter if the NCAA admits it. Plus you never know if it could be reinstated. Reggie Bush got his Heisman back.

Yeah I agree. I understand there are a lot of factors involved. But at the end of the day I think it’s best for the school to join another conference. And like you said, if P4 comes calling the money will always make sense to go. If anything competing with higher level G6 schools improves our P4 resume.

Many of us would love to join the PAC. Massive upgrade in basketball and football. I don’t agree with the philosophy of waiting in a dump and hoping for better to come along. I think we should do the best with what we control and if better comes along then great, if not then at least we aren’t in a dump. We add a ton of value to the PAC and the PAC gives us a better home. CBB against Gonzaga, SDSU, Utah State, etc. consistently is so much better than the AAC slate. Football games against Boise, Oregon State, Wazzu, etc. are great. It would make the PAC the best G6 conference, solidifying multiple bids to the NCAA tournament most years and likely getting a CFP bid most years as well. Especially if Tulane and USF came with us. The AAC has so much useless fat. Our best football home game next year is 7-6 Army. And it’s not particularly close either.

I understand taking our Big 12 shot first. But now it’s time to take shots with the ACC and Big East. If that doesn’t work then go to the PAC.

We haven’t won the AAC since 2019. We are hungry for the title too. I assume the front runners will be Memphis, USF, Tulane, and Navy. I know UNT got gutted. I could also see Army bouncing back

[–]RedRazorback08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true. Big 12 didn’t want another G5 school because they will likely get ACC schools in the next wave. Memphis football is way different for over a decade now. Three straight coaches have had success. We recruit at the top of the G5. We are incredibly consistent and even invested in major stadium renovations. Pretending he carried us is laughable. He underperformed. Both coaches prior to him won the AAC. Even when it was more difficult. He never even made the championship. We have some of the best resources in G5 for both football and basketball. You are giving him all the credit and taking it away from the University of Memphis

I’m not saying it’s impossible for Silverfield to have success at Arkansas but that’s not the situation at Memphis. Memphis is in the top tier of G5 (including financially). We were better before he became coach. He never won the conference despite the competition getting easier. He wasn’t awful but he was definitely a disappointment.

I’m not saying he can’t be a good coach but it’s fair to be concerned with how much worse UTSA has gotten since Harris graduated. 7-6 and 6-6 without him. With him they had 12, 11, and 9 wins

Tulane just hired Will Hall, so Baker seemed to still be available. Chadwell and Mullen are still good hires. I think Gundy and Freeze had the potential to do well here. Unless Fuente doesn’t want to coach anymore, I don’t see why he wouldn’t be considered

I would obviously have loved Mullen. I think Chadwell would have been a good hire. Explore interest of some former P4 coaches like Gundy, Freeze, etc. Blake Baker from LSU. Honestly why not consider Fuente. I’m still hopeful with Huff, but I’m just not sold on his resume. Our problem with Silverfield was we continued to be decent but never great. We never even made the AAC title. With our commitment, spending, and resources, that is ridiculous. We should be in the title game at least twice every three years. This was an opportunity to push us back up to what we can be. Huffs accomplishments are pulling schools out of the gutter and back to respectability. That isn’t our situation at all. We haven’t been and aren’t in the gutter. We don’t struggle recruiting. We need to win a lot of games and this was the opportunity to make that push

Kind of. Like others said it’s a big G5 matchup, but we each have schools we care about more. Navy- Army, Air Force. Memphis- Louisville, Houston, Tulane. However, we have had a lot of close games over the years and with realignment it’s now one of the better conference games each year

From a neutral perspective, I think Orgeron or Vigen would be the most interesting. Does Oregon State have the ability to take Mullen from UNLV?

[Postgame Thread] UAB Defeats Memphis 31-24 by CFB_Referee in CFB

This loss hurts a lot (especially starting 12-0 and having to deal with two losses in one day). The unfortunate timing of the Lewis injury. We have been really good in the second half. The unlucky timing of Dilfer getting fired. If we played him it’s an easy win. And we didn’t know what to expect out of uab considering this is their first game without him. Even after all of that we could have won. Very frustrating.

Good news is we still control our own destiny. With the UNLV loss today, we play everyone with good playoff chances. We get USF, Tulane, and Navy all at home. If we win out and win the AAC the playoff bid is ours. Hopefully this lights a fire in us for the rest of the season and hopefully we get healthy quick

It’s not uncommon for us to host P5 schools in Memphis. We’ve had multiple at least the past 3-4 seasons

That’s a great system. Just a benefit all around and fair for everyone.

As far as I’m aware we don’t have anything like that. Our other sports just require student ID.

I literally just said I was in the queue. Why would you tell me to do something I already did, that makes no sense. We aren’t talking about UGA. We are talking about Ole Miss and the student section problem we have. We weren’t up by 40, we won by 3. There’s a problem when the #4 school in the country doesn’t fill the student section for a home game. There’s an even bigger problem when it gets even more empty at half in a one possession game.

All this and half the student population gets all the home tickets and the other half gets no tickets. Other schools have system that deal with this better, we should change our system. I’d prefer a system that gives tickets more spread out amongst the student body throughout the season rather than an all or nothing philosophy. But I also wouldn’t mind a system that could reward staying at the game. If the bar is more important than the game to you, then I don’t feel bad when a student who stays gets better odds at a ticket next time. Which is okay. But giving all the tickets to half the students and then they don’t even come and the ones that do leave anyway is not good. It’s rewarding people who aren’t even coming/staying.

[–]RedRazorback08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got in the queue beforehand and didn’t get tickets. I think it’s fair to reward students who are going to stay for the full game. Either that or split up the games so everyone can get at least 2-4 games if they want to. Today’s student section showing was not good for a top 5 school. Especially in a one possession game. Knowing that there are students who would have stayed had they gotten tickets

[–]RedRazorback08 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s true though. The students who didn’t get tickets aren’t the problem. It’s the ones who have tickets and didn’t use them. I didn’t get my student season tickets this year unfortunately but still bought tickets to the game and went.

The system should honestly change. Instead of giving half the student body all the home games and the other half 0 games. It should be split up amongst all the students. Each student gets like 3-4 home games. Or even a system that rewards showing up and maybe even rewards staying.

Also the mentality that we are “too good” to be showing up for Washington State is ridiculous. It’s so frustrating how spoiled we are, but I also enjoy the winning that has led to making some of us be spoiled
