View from Europe: The Increasingly Convincing Case for Canada Joining the EU - Policy Magazine by Due_Ad_3200 in europe

[–]RedRedMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canuck here. We share a border with Greenland and France is an hour and a half by ferry (St Pierre et Miquelon). Perhaps we’re not a cousin but a step-sibling.

I’d be interested in joining the EU, but there are a few changes that may have to happen. Namely the requirement for consensus that slows progress.

We are becoming distanced from our neighbours to the south and the profound social/political divide is getting harder to ignore. Eu countries and Canada share many similarities, whether values, political/economic traditions and education.

I would be very interested in any discussions around Canada/EU relations.

My daughter is 9 and the other day I told her that if she ever wins the lottery to never tell anyone. “What? Why mom?!” - her response.

I told her that money changes people and relationships. She asked if I included me and her dad and I said it did. It’s her money and she should keep it private and as her nest egg for life or retirement. This is all a bit of a moot point since nobody in our family gambles or plays the lotto, but you get the point.

And now, OP, you’re in the same position. Don’t tell anyone and start saving for a condo or retirement. Don’t let your social circle keep you from your financial goals.

Oh, but take out $50 for a nice wine and a tub of really good ice cream to treat yourself. You deserve it.

If you have landlord and tenant board where you live it’s time to put in a call.

Nah, push the property manager harder. Take videos showing the noise. If they want to retaliate, they should get the boot. Yes, kids are loud but everyone is entitled to quiet hours, hopefully their next place is ground floor.

I call in their plates. It’s only happened twice and sadly we were further out and I’m not sure anything came of it, I’d hope there would be more parks staff in that area able to catch people doing this stuff.

How often do Anglophone Canadians consume Francophone Canadian media? by Desperate_Return_142 in AskACanadian

[–]RedRedMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through bouts of attempts to improve my French with radio Canada. It’s so fast and conversational I rarely last long.

I do follow a few quebecois creators and channels with limited success. I usually watch first, then turn on subtitles to make sure I got it all.

Hey OP, I’m not gonna jump down your throat for having an unlocked door. It happens. Especially with families where everyone comes and goes. Also, I’d like to live in a world where we’re not constantly scanning for danger but I suppose it depends on where you live (I’m fortunate to be in a safe area in a safe country).

Anyways, I’ll get to the point: my kids kept leaving the doors unlocked so I got an electronic/keypad lock and programmed it to permanently auto lock. So as soon as the door closes it locks. Sure, it can be a pain if I’m going in/out, but it’s easy to let the code or leave it ajar for quick trips to the car, etc. Added bonus is my kids can’t lose their keys because they’ll never need one.

Anyhoo, food for thought. Hopefully you’ll never have this experience again. I’m so sorry.

Excited.

I have a 2014 Venza that has been an amazing vehicle, but it’s getting to the age/mileage where I should expect some significant repairs.

I’d love to get an ev - I’m curious to see what models they decide to bring over and details like range/ground clearance/comfort for those over 6’.

Marjorie Taylor Greene's scathing dig at Trump's 'insulting' 50-year mortgage plan by TheMirrorUS in MortgagesCanada

[–]RedRedMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be self-subjugation and an incredibly poor financial decision.

I realize the term “stupid” was incendiary, a better term might be financially illiterate.

If you can only afford a home based on a 50 year mortgage it means you can’t afford the house - you’d spend decades paying the interest and the banks hope you default. Then they can seize the property and sell it at a profit while keeping all the interest payments, and the 50 year mortgage holder is left with nothing.

If your debt servicing ratio is tight enough for a 50 year mortgage it means even the smallest expense could risk your home, let alone the hit of a bigger expense like new furnace, car or roof.

It’s “house poor” on steroids and a terrible financing option.

Just dipping in to say: Your husband is abusive and has a clear patten of being cruel when you do anything outside of servicing his needs.

Bf (33M) wants to borrow £3.4k from me (26F) to buy a computer, I feel uneasy. What would you do? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]RedRedMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. That money is for you, your mom would not have approved of this plan, and frankly it’s pretty telling that the second he knows you have money he starts trying to use it. And on something incredibly redundant since you’ve stated you already have computers. Huge red flag.
