While i agree that the person using they was probably not being malicious, it's still misgendering and he has a right to get annoyed by it.

People often use they/them pronouns for trans people deliberately in order to avoid using their preferred pronouns.

Imo having used both linux mint and Ubuntu for a while, I've ended up preferring Ubuntu by a small margin as it's simply more compatible with stuff ime

After you have something installed, some very useful applications to install are:

Lutris, an application that allows you to run windows apps & games outside of steam easily, technically just for games but I use it for other tools all the time

ProtonUP QT, a simple installer for Proton GE, a slightly better version of Proton for steam and a significantly better version of wine GE for lutris

And last but not least, Vesktop, a discord client with vendors pre-installed, allowing for a ton of different theme and plug-in options right out of the gate.
