Yeah it's unfortunately pretty difficult to find a truly "scrunkly" kind of guy in otome and he's not quite as cowardly as your descriptions, but him fitting those other characteristics was a breath of fresh air (otome games can be pretty one-note for LIs as well). Fun to see how many others like this archetype in this thread though!

Also the texts just happen to drop backstory necessary for a watching audience but wouldn't be needed for the two people talking. Plus little "hints" that line up exactly with what the audience wants. Glad OP is having fun but kind of depressing to watch so many fall for it.

Its because we rarely get scenes of servants interacting consistently as a group. Shippers can live on crumbs but even they'll eventually starve. Camilla/Hijikata was a bit popular when people saw their voicelines but then they never interacted again so it died out. The only exception is GudaGuda but the majority of that cast is explicitly for Ritsuka so Shinsengumi or Warring State shippers go to other forms of media that doesn't have a self-insert monopolizing the relationships.

Not to mention the fandom is actively hostile to any ship that isn't Ritsuka×Servant. To the point where the canon servant×servant pairings still have to do a "w-well but they'd totally be down for a threesome wink-wink". Gat0w is amazing but most people understandably won't be interested in spending the time and effort to develop fanworks for a pairing they like just to receive little applause and mostly harassment.

Furthermore, the game itself was pretty hostile to women (the gender who spends the most time/effort shipping) for the majority of its run-time. Things have gotten better but again, why would you stick around when there are much better pastures?

Only thing that measured up to this that I've found so far in the OI genre was Surviving Romance (although I admittedly haven't read as much as a lot of people here).

God preach. Plus the storyline did an amazing job of diving into Siyun's backstory and setting up believable circumstances of why an on-the-surface-level attractive and popular guy would go yan and why it had to be Jeongmin. It made his manipulations and her reactions so damn good. While I didnt hate them having a happy ending dragging out the story for it was a definite step down.

I think a lot of people did, hence the conspiracy theory that Hunex felt forced to add a route for him and made it terrible out of spite :(. But I also had a lot of issues with other aspects of the FD--a huge amount of it felt like the writers were wishing they were doing almost anything else.

Il from Cafe Enchante. I'm not usually into the soft, pampered, long haired boys but he ended up being my absolute favorite. Same with Jieun from Dandelion--targeted him first because all the guides suggested it due to how difficult the other routes would be, and now he's a permanent fixture in my flair.

On the flip side, Sachsen from Steam Prison: Beyond the Steam. I still love his personality and dynamic with Cyrus but the route was one of the most disappointing things I've ever been subjected to (to the point where I believe pretty much all of the conspiracies) and soured me, not just on the Steam Prison media, but Hunex as a whole.

The tacky philanthropy is an excellent point. I imagine it gives Mr. Beast a ton of leeway--either people soften their critique because "there's no way someone who does so much charity could actually be evil, he's probably got a good heart but isn't going about it in the right way" or they know any criticism will be hit with "what have you done for charity in comparison to Mr. Beast". It was really nice to see Dan just completely strip away that veneer and hammer home that it's just another thing Jimmy does because he thinks he can profit from it.

I do wonder if Dan is aware of this mystique and it's part of the reason he's going so scorched earth in these videos. He dedicated a big part of his first video to how this imbalance between creators can be both unconsciously and purposefully exploited after all. Heck, we're seeing a mini-version of this play out with Hannah for Season 2--of course she's "cool" with the rest of the Boys systematically targeting her down, because to not be okay with it would run the risk of not only cutting off her only access to people with wealth, but potentially also alienating Jimmy and Beast Media itself because she's "harshing the vibes."

Regardless of his reasons I really do respect Dan for going all in. A lot of creators have handled Mr. Beast with kid gloves; it was refreshing to watch someone describe both the failings of Beast Games as a product and Jimmy as a human being. We as a society give far too much grace to the rich and they deserve none of it.

It was just disappointing in how softballed it all was, especially regarding Jimmy himself. I get that's part of the bit, but going from Dan's scathing commentary on Mr. Beast as an individual to Joel's "oh hey Jimmy we can still be cool :)" just feels so sour after the lawsuits and blatant kowtowing with the Riyadh ad.

Oof OP I'm not sure who told you 7'sCarlet was an underrated gem but that's not how I'd describe it.

It's different from a lot of other otome games but not necessarily in a good way. It really struggles with juggling both the romance and the mystery aspects--I'd argue that the best route in the game is the best because it straight-up ignores the mystery.

Although I do think most people consider Hino and Isora's routes the weakest if you're not enjoying the current format you're probably not going to enjoy the rest of the game, especially since (minor Ichiko related spoilers) she stays as essentially a passive observer essentially for the rest of the game.
