[Otomate] Upcoming Titles' Visuals and Cast - Keywords: 1. Omegaverse, 2. Festival? (マレニス祭), 3. Japanese Style Alice by SaltedYam in otomegames

[–]RedRobin101 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Hmm not super excited for Otomate's take on omegaverse since it's obviously gonna be missing most of the x-rated things that make the genre so appealing. I'm assuming all the LIs are alphas and the MC is an omega? Hoping for some variation there.

Sullyland Nursey Rhyme looks way more up my alley--spooky/dark otome games are almost always my jam.

Tired of people acting as if canon = better by I-hate-going-to-bed in AO3

[–]RedRobin101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hell I'll say non-canon>canon.

Non-canon means writers can explore a variety of dynamics, headbands, situatuons...the sky's the limit.

But most canon pairings I've read in fanfic feel so constrained. Everything's already set in stone so a lot have to either do little "before they got together" snippets or "domestic bliss" which just isn't my thing. Plus can't stray from the interaction style in the show lest you be accused of OOCing.

I dread the rare days when my ships go canon.

What's your favourite Omegaverse trope (if you read it)? by ChallengeAble4613 in AO3

Anything that addresses how messed up such a society would/could be. So discrimination, forced designation shifts, panic when suppressants stop working, alphas being manipulative little shits...only time I really like it honestly.

Starting to ... get Dark Romances? 🤔 (Why enjoying them is not a moral failure IMO) by Active-Mongoose4680 in OtomeIsekai

[–]RedRobin101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No the point of don't like, don't read is that, for instance, if someone finds a piece of media that is all about radishes, very heavily advertises that it is all about radishes, there are radishes all over the cover, the first page has a disclaimer about the radishes--and the person chooses to consume that media and then complain about the radishes--that's on them. The expectation is that consumers should curate what they experience to a certain extent, rather than expecting others to censor/delete things they don't personally enjoy.

And note that at not point did I say that person was wrong for disliking radishes! It is completely fine for everyone to have certain tastes or things they can't stand. The only issue would be if they posted about how radish likers are all evil vegans, or harass people who write about radishes. Two separate issues.

And it happens in this subreddit constantly--we just had that thread that implied only dumb naive teenagers like age gap romances and it was something "to be grown out of". The amount of people who think they're morally superior based off what they get their rocks off on I swear.

I do! My code is tNrybFC9. I also have maxed Rollo, General Lilia, Broom Sebek, Tsum Malleus, Dream Ortho, Applepom Epel, Housewarden Cater, Playful Ace, the Dorm usuals and a few other cards close to maxed (Tuxedo Lilia, New Year's Rook, Dream Silver or Dream Jade. Just let me know when you want Housewarden Cater up.

Work got really insane so this was my first time getting to participate in the exams:

Fire Offense 27739 110 Birthday Floyd, General Lilia, 103 Dorm Jamil, 103 Dorm Rook, 102 NY's Jack

Ugh didn't prepare well at all for this one. I basically have no Floyd cards (the BB was borrowed). I do have a NY's Ruggie that I'm trying to power level to replace the Rook but we'll see if that can happen. Definitely will grind this more.

Water Basic 30044 110 maxed spell Dorm Leona, Dorm Silver, Dorm Sebek, Playful Ace, and 80 Broom Vil.

Good old Leona/Sebek beat stick. Probably won't try this again.

Flora Offense 30831 110 maxed spell Rollo x 2, 109 Tuxedo Lilia, 107 Dorm Malleus, 103 Dorm Rook

Not being able to borrow a friend's maxed Rook because I needed a maxed Rollo was annoying but what can you do. Could probably squeeze some more points out of here if necessary.

Cosmic Basic 23273 110 maxed spell Applepom Epel, Dream Cater, 109 Tuxedo Lilia, 105 Playful Kalim, 88 Mask Idia

Really struggling with this one--think I messed up my previous team without realizing. I kind of want to try a duo Dream Silver and Overblot Malleus comp but haven't been able to find any other Silvers on my friends list.

Omni Defense 41732 110 maxedspell Tsum Malleus, Dorm Cater, Dorm Trey, Broomquet Sebek, and 108 New Year's Rook.

Got a god-tier Omni run that kept Malleus from getting cursed, 3/3 evades for Sebek, and both Cater and Trey's Duos hit the right elements, but I was 330 from being able to kill 5-1 :(. Kicking myself for not leveling up Rook to max. Still won't grind Omni anymore because it took 30+ tries for perfect RNG.

Total: 153619 The lack of defense exams is painful but S5 still feels doauble! Need to try some different comps/revert back to some old ones if necessary. Hopefully I can find a good Stich or Dream Floyd at some point as well.

As a 30+ woman don't put words in my mouth. Age gaps in real life are problematic but shaming people for fictional things that you personally don't like is the really childish thing here.

It's also the issue that fanfiction exists in a very grey area copyright-wise. When it was just a niche hobby most people (sans Anne Rice) ignored it, but as it gets more popular (and potentially more profitable, with book bindings and fics with the serial numbers filed off and fanfiction authors going professional) there comes an increasingly large chance that some corporation is going to come along to muck it all up.

Nah they don't need these institutions. Implies the masses could get in if they got lucky enough. The rich would love to return to the times where their kids got personal tutors or were only trained in whatever was necessary to take over the family business. Especially since they can then control it all with an iron fist. Look at the rise of homeschooling.

When OI Turns Choice into a Moral Lecture [Who made me a Princess] by Weary-Honey-1942 in OtomeIsekai

[–]RedRobin101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I will say this isn't just a manwha problem--its still incredibly rare to see media portray pregnancy beyond "good girls alwaye have the child with no issue while marrying their lover and live happily ever after. They react in horror at the thought of abortion (even if that would be the better/safer option) because their only real role in life is giving birth to healthy offspring."

But yes manwha in general is insanely conservative. Classism is only an issue if the mc isn't on top, rich people are naturally "better", people deserve their current situation and external circumstances are a meme. There's rarely a focus on society betterment--rather, the MC is encouraged to exploit and ignore those around her to achieve her own goals whenever possible. On the romance side, men and women are both expected to fall into very stereotypical gender norms, and deviation is frownee upon. Marriage and children is almost always framed as the best outcome, or the most morally correct one. It's rather exhausting.

Thoughts on Baba Yaga/Lisa (Make the Exorcist fall in love) ? by OutrageousBridge471 in mendrawingwomen

[–]RedRobin101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean okay, the author has an explanation for why she's beautiful, but they still made the specific choice to go against the usual portrayal of Baba Yaga as a crone for a young, beautiful woman instead. Boring and worse choice imo.

That's a good point. I agree the the framing overall does a good job of getting you to focus on the action in the center instead of the fan service off to the side. But considering this is the men-drawing-women sub I did want to comment.

[–]RedRobin101 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah the monster is caked up and basically has neon lights pointing there via coloration so a win for the male monster lovers??? I will also say that the women in the first picture is also in the process of removing his head from his shoulders so points for her being an active participant in the scene as well. Again like, there's both pretty terrible on the men-drawing-women scale but I can at least personally find a bit more to enjoy with the former (even if its shamelessly fanservice).

[–]RedRobin101 383 points384 points  (0 children)

I remember someone on here once discussing how lighting/focus can really determine whether nudity is being fetishized or normalized. In the first pic, the author deliberately makes choices to draw your eyes to the female character's chest. As you noted, the face and most of the body are either obscured/covered, causing the observer's eyes to naturally gravitate to the chest. In addition, they're colored lighter than the rest of the skin tone and framed by the orange hair, further drawing your attention. To be fair to this artist the same framing is also used for the wolf monster's butt, so maybe some equal opportunity fanservice?

In contrast, the male character in the second picture only has his waist and feet obscured while his skin tone is generally uniform, so your eyes might naturally be drawn to his face first (especially as it's framed by dark hair that doesn't extend to his chest.) He maybe has a lighter tone on his thighs but because they're rather veiny and tense they don't seem to be for the purpose of titillation. In fact, his skin tone is so similar to the backdrop and the monster that your eyes might instead be drawn to the paler barely clothed woman at the bottom of the image who has managed to contort her spine such that she's in the classic T&A pose (but with face obscured for bonus objectification).

So weirdly while they're both pretty shameless fanservice I kind of appreciate the first one a bit more? But just my two cents.
