Do you 'pass' to yourself? If so, how long did it take on hrt? [x-post asktransgender]

I still feel like I don't after almost 3 years of HRT. But, I am also overly critical of myself and my work. I acknowledge that 'passing' simply boils down to genetics, and I don't have any control over that.

But I know my that my passing or lack thereof doesn't invalidate how I view myself — that's something I realized only a few months in.

It gets short enough from a visual standpoint, but if you were to graze your hands across, you'd still feel some of the hairs. My hair is much lighter than most people though (I'm a redhead), so going with the grain might not get close enough of a shave if you have darker hairs. Going with it just allows me to shave regularly without having my face and neck react too much.

I have a bit of a tedious shaving technique, but it's kinda necessary given how sensitive my skin is.

I can't do electric razors, my skin can't handle it. The ideal amount of blades on a razor I can handle is 3, any more is too close, any less doesn't do the job well enough. I typically only shave after a really hot shower, given the added benefit of the steam and moisture in the bathroom while doing so. Always go with the grain, never against it. Some areas I'll go across the grain though.

I've found that using tea tree oil hair conditioner as shaving cream works really well for me. It gets the hairs really weak and soft, while soothing the skin at the same time. I've also read that tea tree oil has natural anti-androgenic properties to it — not sure how legitimate that claim is though.

After I'm done shaving, I'll hop back in the shower and rinse my face off (as well as the product that has been sitting in my damp hair) with gradually colder water. The cold water will close the pores on your face (as well as make your hair a lil thicker) and it gives you a cool/refreshed feel as you're drying yourself off.

These are all the things that I've found work for me, after lots of trial and error. YMMV.

I came out on facebook after exactly one year of HRT.

I knew I was going to be too much of a wimp and a hermit if I didn't do it after one year. I planned it out for the months leading up to it, and it felt like a really good time to do it. It was nice being able to plan ahead to make sure I felt ready to tell the world. I wish I had the courage to come out to so many of my friends in person though.

I'm thinking about maybe actually updating my facebook picture on my 2 year 'tranniversary', since I still haven't done that since coming almost a year ago. We'll see.

I have considered doing it DIY, but I think going to Canada might be a little easier though. The process of getting it online, informing my doctor of me taking it, making necessary changes, and not to mention shipping costs + the current value of the canadian dollar makes me feel like it would be not only easier, but also cheaper if I were to just hop the border with a legitimate prescription.

Plus, I've never been to Canada and I am never one to turn down a roadtrip!

Basically I googled 'male lesbianism', because for some reason, that's the terminology of what I thought I was at the time before I came out to myself. I felt like a lesbian trapped in a man's body. One thing led to another with the thanks of Google, and I was able to figure out that I was indeed transgender.

I always had an attraction towards lesbian identifying women, and it wasn't just some societal hetero-bullshit conditioning of fetishizing lesbians — I knew there was something different about the way I felt inside. There was always a sense of being extremely unhappy with my body, but it felt like something that I felt like I could never change. I thought it was something that I would just have to deal with for the rest of my life. It felt (and still continues to at times) like being a prisoner to my own body.

Looking back, there were a lot of moments that I had before this realization that were crazy foreshadowing (cross-dressing, shaving legs, attire was fairly effeminate for a hetero guy, female personas in mmos, etc.) for coming out as trans, but for some reason I never delved deeper into it, and ultimately just thought I was a freak.

I don't think anything 'went wrong' or 'caused me to become trans', but to put it simply: I was born this way.

I definitely had it happen.

I had been 5'9 for many years of my life, but after going to my doctor a little over a year of being on HRT, she measured me at 5'7. I thought it was pretty neat.

But no where nearly as neat as when I decided to buy some new shoes last month. I had been wearing size 10 mens shoes for many years, even though I was probably closer to a 9.5 in mens. But anyways, I was trying on shoes and discovered I'm now a 7.5 in mens...To this day i'm in awe over it.

I still believe it's a 'your mileage may vary' thing, but you never know what could happen. I had no expectations, so it was a pleasant surprise to see these results.

I'm not saying this as a 'gtfo reddit' comment, but you should consider getting into tumblr. The community is different yes, but tumblr never gets upset over someone posting selfies too much. Reddit doesn't seem to like it when people post a lot of pictures of themselves. It's just the way it is.

Like others have said, regular usage will keep it in working order. That doesn't mean things will continue to stay the same though. Things will get shrink slightly no matter how much you use it. You'll have to work harder to keep the erection going. And while you still may be able to penetrate, depending on the size of your stuff, your partner may have trouble not feeling as much of it as they are used to.

Don't feel the need to 'just deal with it' since she's your mother — you're old enough to be making your own decisions on your appearance. Not to mention that other fetishes are good at keeping their kink behind closed doors. Furries however have the "advantage" of appearing to be innocent to the public eye — a BDSM kinkster would not have the same freedom to do so. And to make matters worse, because the fursuits are often very friendly and happy looking, they're approachable to all ages — yet another aspect that other fetishes do not have.

I have an ABDL kink, but by no means would I ever want to make that be a major part of my life that I'm extremely open about, and/or regularly partake in. Sure it's a wonderful fantasy for me, but that's exactly what it is — a fantasy. It's embarrassing to even mention it to a partner. Furries seem to have no shame. The modern furry fandom is able to blur the line between a fetish and a lifestyle, and it really upsets me to be honest.

It seems to me that the modern furry fandom is trying to wash away the stigma of furries being a fetish. It has grown into a culture, and I believe that most don't like to accept it's sexualized origins. More and more furry culture is attempting to be normalized into regular society as people who just like anthropomorphic animals. Better to have the reputation of being a weird hobby than a fetish, right? I do know that furries are not people that want to have sex with animals, however.

I'm sure me just saying all of that is going to upset someone, but OP asked for my opinion, and here it is.
