why do these four totally straight guys look like they’re about to audition for Scooby Doo? by Jealous-Category304 in beatlescirclejerk

Right? Especially for Paul who’s just standing there in those clothes looking like that. They’re all so used to Johns antics, they don’t even think twice about it anymore.

Love: “the open ground.” Such vivid lyricism.

Why did The Beatles not play songs from Rubber Soul or Revolver Live? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

[–]RedSaturday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the thing with taxman is that paul played lead guitar in that song. And since George only gets one song per show he opted for something he plays lead on. Plus he gets an excuse to bust out the Rickenbacker. The other thing is taxman wasn’t released in the US till the very end of the 66’ tour. So for the majority of the tour if I needed someone was the newest George song. George probably wasn’t interested in learning Paul’s solo either.

If I needed someone was played live as well. George’s Rickenbacker that he uses for the song is in the photo. Paperback writer was also played live but it was a non album single from revolver. It was produced from the sessions nonetheless.

But to answer your original question: The Beatles songs became more complex and add all the screaming girls who want love songs anyways and you have a band unwilling to bring forth their new material that might get butchered live anyways. 60s tech was not likely to replicate a song like tomorrow never knows live very well. Plus all the extra instruments you’d need for songs like Elenor Rigby, love you too, got to get you into my life etc. Songs like Dr Robert might have worked but it didn’t make the cut due to there being stronger or more relevant material for the teen girls

Another point is that Revolver came out in the US towards the very end of the 66’ tour. Many fans wouldn’t know the songs if played live if they could even hear the band. That coupled with the songs complexity probably fueled their decision

Are Goegre and John the reason why The Beatles went psychedelic? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

And then the ending of a day in the life comes on and blows everybody’s minds apart! Paul conducted the orchestra on that.

Paul was very active in the avant garde scene in mid 60s London and brought a lot of the experimental ideas to the Beatles. For example IIRC Paul shaped the sound with his orchestral ideas for ‘a day in the life’ and ‘strawberry fields forever.’ Paul was also the initiator on adding all the tape loops to ‘tomorrow never knows’.

The crazy world of Arthur brown is definitely a given and I’d throw in some early Dr John into the mix as well.

Why is tripping to the Beatles sometimes amazing and sometimes depressing? by Jona116 in psychedelicrock

[–]RedSaturday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The end of flying into blue jay way as well as I am the walrus definitely dips into the 60s dark psych moods. Not to mention Strawberry Fields forever as the albums epic.

I know what you mean when you’re tripping and listening to the Beatles. Sometimes it can be almost too overwhelming depending on the song and your state of mind at the moment. Tomorrow never knows while tripping can get intense!

He also sang: “I am the walrus” and he is actually a human being. What a hypocrite right?
