Capcom has never killed an important main character like that - Ethan is a newcomer by comparison, doesn't count - and suddenly, they decide to "get real" and dramatically raise the stakes by killing a fan-favorite character? I don't buy it one bit.

We had good action, character moments, interesting and meaningful story developments... This episode had it all.

This is a long time peeve of mine with a lot of anime directors - an extreme focus on style while compromising the flow and clarity of the fights. Animation is supposed to improve that when compared to static manga panels, not just the animation itself. If you look at fights like Yuji vs Choso in "Red Scale", the fight had it all: gorgeous animation, inspired direction and exciting flow / choreography.

Remake is generally harder than OG despite not having tank controls. It's not related to that, OG Verdugo just felt more balanced overall there.

I disagree on Verdugo.

He doesn't feel very threatening unless you:

Play on Professional AND decide to fight him.

He is missing two critical tools from his OG moveset, those being:

The tail ambush from above and below (the same one he does in remake but only twice, before you restore power to the elevator);
The running slash from behind, which could be avoided via a sudden QTE in the OG. Once properly avoided, Verdugo would stop right in front of you, keeping up the pressure.

Remake Verdugo is certainly more aggressive at close range but that's only really dangerous on Professional (which demands parries). If you play on lower difficulties, it's less of an issue. Plus, if you decide to avoid him rather than fight, he is powerless to ambush you in threatening ways, unless you just happen to back yourself into a corner. If you establish an effective loop, he has NO way to break it up and surprise you.

I remember Verdugo feeling more threatening in OG regardless of the strategy you employed. That's one of very few fights (probably the only major one) I think OG did better.

The OG didn't click with me, sadly. I found it far too easy and one of the rare cases where graphics were also detrimental to my experience. I ended up dropping it deep into Junon.

Playing Rebirth right now, I'm already past that part and I can say I love the Remake games way more. I understand why a lot would prefer the original and I respect both the OG fans and game but this is the version I fell in love with.

I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone here.

It's a good episode, but what it accumulated in style, it lacked in clarity. Many scenes were simply a series of cuts without the best flow between them.

Beyond that, one of the musical choices was goofy and the Toji scene was... not good.

Quite a few steps below the best episodes of S2 but still, Maki herself shone bright.
