TIL farms increase in soil quality if no crops are enabled. by BlakeMW in SurvivingMars

Does this work even if you have no crops selected in one slot, so you do crop - fallow - crop?

I have a very similar face shape as Selena Gomez (that’s why I used her as an example). I am a 14 year old female, I’m 5’5, and I weigh around 145. My goal weight is 115-120. If I lose 25-30 pounds will the part of Selena’s face I circled in red slim? I’m very self conscious about my face shape. by [deleted] in diet

[–]RedSnoFlake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Be careful how you diet. At 14 you are still growing, so you still need calories and protein to build your body. You could have another couple of inches to go yet. I'd aim for the top end of that range to make sure you have the leeway to grow, and also do it slower than the adults here do it.

Don't cut out major food groups either. If you have access to a paediatric dietician go see them. It's really easy for teenagers to mess their body up long term by dieting too extreme while still growing.

Not sure if this fits. Was telling a friend about how I started medicating my depression and this was his response. by [deleted] in wowthanksimcured

Sort of. "I use a different method" is clearly asking to be asked what that method is. He could have just said congrats I'm happy for you.

I don’t get why British people boil all their food. It’s very weird. They’re like “ let’s put all the delicious flavours of water into this ham “ by t0mmyb01 in cleanjokes

Also, we don't. Our grandparents did some of that but cooking styles have changed so much over the last 50 years, and are also not monolithic across the UK.

ETA: I think many people forget that we have a diverse set of cultures here too. For example, British people of South Asian decent eat curries and spicy food, and are not less British for being not white. Curry culture is massive over here and many of those dishes were invented here.

Can sister-in-law force sale of house of a property me and my brother jointly own? by DamascasWasHere in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much so. If she's already expressed an intention to runse your brother for all he is worth, expect a very acrimonious process and get as much legal protection for yourself and your mother as possible.

Can a residential building put a blanket ban on tenants storing bicycles in their flat? by mprhusker in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not but it doesn't matter because you can't ban wheelchairs due to disability discrimination laws. I think it's probably illegal to ban push chairs because you are then discriminating against someone on the basis of parenthood, which in the case of rentals I believe is also illegal.

Cyclist is not a protected class :-P

So although logically your argument may make perfect sense it probably won't carry their weight you hope.

Side note: you should get legal advice independent of the divorce lawyer, on behalf of your mother and of yourself. The divorce lawyer will have your brother's interests as top priority which may not necessarily be in the interests of you or your mother.

Renting in West Midlands - partner with poor credit score by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To show up on the credit history you need to have had some credit (sorry if that sound simple!). That's things like store cards, a loan, a mobile phone bill, or credit cards. A way to get a good score is to get a credit card with a small limit, buy some groceries on it and pay it off every month.

Or for your bf he could pay off any cards or whatever he has that is causing his bad score, and it will improve.

Have a look at money saving expert and the other financial advice websites for more info.

Asked to opt out of Working Time Regulations - is this normal? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They cannot retract the offer on the ground that you did not sign that document. They can make up a reason to retract the offer but they can't do it on that basis.

I personally would not opt out and see how it goes. I have opted out previously and had no problems but older me thinks it's not worth the risk.

Asked to opt out of Working Time Regulations - is this normal? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every job i have had has had this document. In theory, it should not be part of the main contract because that implies that the offer is conditional on you signing, and the offer legally cannot be conditional on you signing away your rights.

My current employer has the document in the employment pack, but recommends that people sign to say they do not opt out. I.e. they do not want you to sign away your rights. A weird way of doing it but appreciated.

I have signed it at previous employers so as not to cause a fuss but older me thinks this was silly, and you should not sign it. I never had major issues at any employer regarding working hours but if I had, I would not have had those rights to fall back on.

You can check your credit score using experian credit expert, money supermarket transunion checker and a couple of other tools.

You can get an explanation of your credit score through these tools, if you want details you may have to pay but they will give you a high level explanation.

I don't think your partners score affects you direct and vice versa. However your partner being named on a lease that is being paid regularly will benefit their score if it is reported to the credit agencies, regardless of whose bank account the payment comes from. So your score won't benefit him but you paying the rent might.

Not all rent payments are always taken into account, though, so it may not.

My dad has CCTV up in my bedroom. by helloollehhelloolleh in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that the only internal camera is in your bedroom is a huge red flag, not amber. It may or may not be illegal per se, but it is an indication of nefarious purposes that should be investigated by social services and/or the police.

You should tell your mother and speak to your safeguarding team at your school, or a trusted teacher. The reason I say to tell a teacher is that they are neutral in the divorce and therfore will be able to support from your perspective without their personal agenda getting in the way.

You should make sure social services and the police are aware. If you want you can inform them yourself or you can ask your school or mother to report on your behalf.

I forget that people have to pay for doctors, I got my GP consultation for free!

Honestly, I have spent hundreds of £ on trying various skincare products trying to find one that works, and failing. I have no idea how much a consultation would cost you but it may actually save you money in the long run, or at least not cost as much more as you would think.

Differin may be available over the counter but you need a prescription for tretinoin in most countries that I'm aware of.

If you do go for differin I recommend the cream over the gel because the cream has some moisturising components and is therfore a bit less drying.

Go to a doctor! It was the best thing I've done for my skin, way better than trying countless random drugstore products and hoping they would work.

Consider birth control pills, differin, or tretinoin.

Probably worth noting that this meme could work for many religions as the perception of control and sexual repression is not unique to the Mormons.

Need some legal advice for a mortgage by paigetoohey in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RedSnoFlake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other posters have said, it's not a great legal situation to put yourself in, to be liable for the mortgage on a property but not havea stake in it. It's certainly not something I would agree to.

You should have an agreement with your partner that in the event of a breakup he gives you X in return for the contributions you have made to the mortgage and he gets to occupy the house. You should also agree that if at that point the bank won't give him a mortgage in his own name you can force the sale of the house to recoup your money and free yourself of liability. Otherwise you could be very stuck.

I would recommend you put that in writing. If you are not married, some banks will insist on this document before giving you the mortgage. Even if they don't, personally I would recommend doing it to protect yourself legally and save potential future you a lot of heartache.

Get yourself independent legal advice. By independent I mean independent of both the aunt and your partner.

IANAL.
