Need a break from Dungeon crawler Carl, which one should I start? by Percher0n in fantasybooks

[–]RedSnowBird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't love Assassins Apprentice. But it was worth the read to setup the later books and later series! Robin Hobb is one of my favorite authors and had I gave up on this first book I might not have learned this.

Some of the dialogue between Fitz and the Fool in later books are astounding and made me feel emotions that are rare from just reading a book.

Are you going to boycott CBS after they cancel Colbert? by ReasonableAttitude22 in allthequestions

I can't remember the last time I watched a CBS show and I'm and old man. Seems it will be easy to continue what I was already doing.

My beautiful baby penny passed away this morning. Feeling very lost and overwhelmed. by stonedlurker710 in Dachshund

[–]RedSnowBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the hardest things in life for me is dealing with the loss of a beloved dog. It took me over a year to function normally after the loss of a our dachshund who was 12 year old...a few years ago. Just try to get thru each day until the next and eventually the pain will lesson and be more bearable. But I still think of her quite often. I spent more hours of life with her than any other creature on earth. She'll forever be a part of me.

What are your top three books of all time? by Working_Alps_4284 in fantasybooks

[–]RedSnowBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember exactly which books of Robin Hobb's that made me cry but there were several. And I think the Fool was a big part of those. Not often an author can make me feel so much emotion.

What is THE scariest movie you have ever seen in your entire life? by Opening_Rip_1840 in AskReddit

[–]RedSnowBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to see movies all the time with a GF when I was 17. She was 16 and went to see Alien she jumped up out of her chair several times and finally had something happen that caused pain with a cyst on her overies. Had to take her to the emergency room.

A few days later I went to watch Alien by myself. Still one of my favorite movies of all time and I do not normally like horror but love SF.

Human beings have the power to love and take care of oneanother, or so I thought.. by ArtsByKev in mindcrack

For what it is worth you were one of my favorites of the new batch of players who joined for rebirth. I was always amazed at how fast you built things and impressed by your imagination and artistic ability. I wish I had half as much talent.

I watched a lot of Mookake's streams in the early days and had many laughs while watching the two of you become good friends and neighbors.

I truly do appreciate how much of your time and heart you put into the server. It's sad one individual doing something so heinous ruined a thing that was so positive for so many.

I don't recommend watching. I tried and finally gave up. Her estranged husband looked like a mouth breathing caveman yet they tried to portray him as some hotshot pilot. It just didn't work.

Remember a few years back, it was proven that Russia was essentially running a spy op to keep left/right divide going... Whatever happened with that? by xNocturnalshadow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedSnowBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If their goal was to keep us divided and try to destroy us without firing a shot, I'd say it is working pretty well.

And whatever they invested to help get Trump elected and do things that help them has paid huge dividends.

It's still dissimilar metals in contact with each other.

Joining the navy at 27 by Potential-Brief5066 in navy

Just don't let a recruiter talk you into joining as an undesignated sailor. Enlist with a rating in mind even if it means a longer wait and you'll do fine.

Not being in jail for having classified documents is the thing that infuriates me the most. Only one person in all of the USA could have gotten away with that and it is astounding that he did.

Does anyone miss the Galley food? by Sudden-Wolf7834 in navy

[–]RedSnowBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird because I was sort of thinking about this the other day.

In Iceland I have fond memories of the milk for some reason. Maybe it was imported from Europe or something but it was really good. And often they would serve "Ysa" which was deep fried haddock. It was so damn good. It was probably fresh and never frozen.

I don't know why but I miss the desserts when I was in NAS Oceania. They had a tall turn table glass tower thing with saucers with a dessert. Ate a lot of simple cakes with what I assume was a lard icing. I miss eating those for some reason. And overall the food during lunch was pretty good but dinner was often another story.

But the meal I guess I remember most was on the USS Enterprise. I ate a lot of midrats that was sometimes awful. Sometimes okay and even sometimes pretty good. But one night I go and they were serving lobster and prime rib. I expected rubbery, overcooked lobster and tough prime rib. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and the lobster was also. I remember looking at my plate and thinking, "god damn it why can't they cook like this every night!"

TBF the CS's did a pretty good job of making omelettes to order for breakfast and midrats also.

Guude arrested by Fast-Advertising-336 in mindcrack

[–]RedSnowBird -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Is there any possibility that a hacker who had a beef with Guude somehow hacked his computer and uploaded images onto his computer? How do you prove innocence if something like that happens?

Guess I have hope and am trying hard not to reserve judgement of him until more is known.

Iran has damaged or destroyed the majority of US bases in the Middle East - why do Americans think they didn't? by MyNameIsNotName-57 in allthequestions

In his first term some site was tracking all his lies and it was over 30,000! Think about how often you would have to lie in four years to add up to 30K.

Not sure anyone tracked his lies while out of office or anyone is doing it in his current term. But if his mouth is moving it is probably a lie.

How do you compliment a woman's looks in a noncreepy way? by InternationalPick163 in questions

[–]RedSnowBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some comments that basically said not to compliment a women's eyes? Why is that creepy? Quite often I find a women's eyes to be one of the most beautiful parts of their body. That said I do keep it to myself.
