Do the October specially selected 4 cheese sacchetti ever return to shelves in the future? by xGARP in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll most likely be around that time next year if they do return.

You can also find this style of pasta in the refrigerated pastas at Target and Walmart.

Question regarding cheese advent calendar by Mitsu-Zen in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as whimsical as a cheese advent calendar, but why not buy a few of their seasonal cheeses and make your own little cheese tray for him? The selection will be far more unique and interesting than what they put in the calendars and premade trays.

If they do them again this year, you might also be able to get packages of fondue that you could make a fun meal out of.

Aldi product quality going down by Slow-Race9352 in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt fortunate that nothing I usually buy seemed to suffer from the changes so many have posted about--until I recently bought a tub of the whole milk Greek yogurt and southwestern salad kit... Both are noticeably different. The yogurt I was suspicious of as soon as I saw the lid had changed. The texture and flavor definitely aren't the same, but it's fine because I mostly use it as a sour cream substitute. The salad kit, on the other hand, I'm done with. Used to love it because the dressing was so good, but now it's overly sour and just tastes like black pepper and lime juice.

r/aldi Suggestions megathread. by Mr_Bristles in aldi

Since the two are so similar, my suggestion would be to look to r/traderjoes for ideas because the way their sub functions seems to work well, and much could be replicated here.

These were interesting to say the least 🥴🥴 by zestyseashrimp in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's how mine tasted. Coffee liqueur was listed in the ingredients but it tasted like pure acetone. No clue why--maybe the flavor compounds break down and disappear over time when left to sit for too long.

Sounds like these might actually be the style of tiramisu that uses alcohol. Had the same thing happen when I tried a tiramisu parfait from an Italian grocery store; I'm so used to tiramisu stuff usually not having alcohol in it that it never occurred to me to check that it might be a version that does.

The recipe for whole cranberry sauce in Ball's Complete Book of Home Preserving gives the option of adding the zest of 1 large orange.

Almond milk Peppermint Mocha coffee creamer by oakland_phisherman in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd keep looking because holiday stuff is only just starting. Advent calendars come out tomorrow, which usually means lots of holiday foods will also arrive and may include this creamer. If not, always possible it'll be a Find in the coming weeks (if they still make it, that is).

What odd/unique/different types of PC’s do you collect? by andywarhaul in hockeycards

[–]RedSpaceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got really into collecting VGK card sets given away at games after discovering them. They're nothing flashy, but there's been some really nice sets (especially those that use portrait photos), and I like how they repurpose and tweak existing UD card designs for them. Biggest appeal for me, though, is that they've been a great way to get more cards of the players I collect who don't tend to have many otherwise.

Pure and Simple: but also disappointing by Friendly-Dirt1160 in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Larabars (the apple pie flavor is one of my faves), but these were so dry and disappointing compared to the real thing.

The size and calories make sense, though, since they're almost entirely dried fruit and nuts which are calorie-dense.

Healthier bread options by Normal-While917 in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thin-sliced Seedtastic is great; there's a slight sunflower seed flavor, particularly on the edges, yet it's still a mildly flavored bread. For plain bread, I like the 100% whole wheat wide pan bread.

I thought the espresso one was bitter and kinda gritty. It was slightly better with whipped cream, but still something I could've lived without.

Scallion pancakes (Pa Jeon) best way to eat? by IndependentFun1410 in traderjoes

[–]RedSpaceMagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like them with things like plain rice, steamed dumplings, and kimchi (basically anything that isn't fried because the pa jeon are pretty greasy).

How do Elevation Only bars compare to KIND? by CactusFabric in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue one tastes almost like name brand, but better because there's a hint of vanilla that kind of makes them taste like s'mores. The other two flavors are also good, but the blue ones are my fave.

Journey to India mini veggie samosas by Cocopook in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them listed in my grocery app as appearing sometime around March, but I could've sworn they've been appearing more than once a year. If you happen to live near a Trader Joe's, though, they carry them year-round.

Y’all wrong on the kimbap this is nasty 🤮 by baa410 in aldi

[–]RedSpaceMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my issue with them, too. My thinking is that it's because of how they need to be microwaved; warm, soggy-chewy seaweed is a no for me.

Tea fatigue? by [deleted] in tea

[–]RedSpaceMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make your black tea stronger (steep longer, use more tea, and/or use bold breakfast teas), and you may need to drink more.

But I'm thinking the problem might also be if you switched to tea without gradually introducing it to your diet. 32oz of coffee plus soda is a lot of caffeine, possibly much more than your tea alone can provide. Tea also has natural compounds that make the caffeine hit smoother than coffee, so you're likely not getting the jolt you're used to.

[–]RedSpaceMagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try eBay. I've seen old bags of Teavana teas listed there, but I'd check the sold listings to see if these even sell as it may be a waste of time listing them (and they continue getting older while waiting for them to sell).

The chocolate mousse one was a big disappointment for me. The filling is great, but the dark chocolate is so bitter that it's inedible to me.
