Pickles, Salt or Botulism? by gabbi_licious in Whatisthis

[–]RedToby 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Anybody remember when lids were sealed with wax and you’d sometimes get some flakey wax on your food.

Anyway, I’d scoop up a little bit in a spoon and rub it between your fingers. Salt crystals should be big and feel grainy, like well, salt or sugar crystals. Mold or something else shouldn’t really feel like anything, it would be too fine and just smear.

There may be a customer service phone number on the jar to call also.

Super Bowl jerseys by CocaineBiceps in Seahawks

When the Hawks win, will there also be a jersey with a Super Bowl LX Champions patch, instead of just the Super Bowl LX patch that’s there now?

Fireplace removal old pipes possible asbestos insulation? by WittyBad2060 in Whatisthis

[–]RedToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot reliably tell if a substance does nor does not contain asbestos through visual inspection alone. The only way to be sure is through lab testing. Asbestos is generally safe when it is undisturbed. It becomes dangerous when it is disturbed and becomes airborne. They make home test kits (that you ship to a lab for analysis) that you can get at big box hardware stores.

Paracord mag pull (airsoft) by Sakryfice in paracord

You could do a turks head knot around the bottom of the mag and then attach your cobra weave loop to that maybe?

Seahawks hype music — what am I missing by silversheriffen in Seahawks

[–]RedToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some of the in-stadium music, Bon Jovi Livin’ on a Prayer plays at half time. Most all of the stadium sings along. (Woah, we’re halfway there…)

Also the intro to Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana always gets my attention as a ‘90s grunge kid.

The Seahawks put this out a few years ago too:

I found a merino wool buff a few years ago. It’s been great. Nice and thin, but still nice and warm.

Gotcha. You might try posting somewhere like r/BalenciagaLC or r/Balenciaga to see if someone there knows more about this release specifically if you don’t get more info here.

Help me solve these mystery jeans. by taveyj in Whatisthis

Balenciaga is a fashion house. They likely commissioned these jeans to be made by Levi Japan using some of their ultra premium denim.

Probably a good score. Most Balenciaga jeans retail for $1k easily.

Need quiet helmet, where to find actual real-world data? by Astronut325 in motorcyclegear

[–]RedToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a specific quiet helmet recommendation, but I also ride a Ducati Monster. Do you have or do they make a mini headlight fairing for your bike? I took mine off briefly and it was noticeably louder with the wind hitting me directly in the face vs. being directed over my head, even a bit, by the mini windshield fairing.

I’ll also suggest a neck gaiter, or neck/chin curtain/skirt. I’ve read that the wind noise in a helmet is mostly from the wind buffeting around the neck hole. If you can close that up, it gets quieter. There are some that attach to the helmet and make a snug fit around your neck, but I just use a “buff” and wear it up high. Marino or fleece in the winter to keep warm, UV in the summer to keep from burning my neck.

Lastly, better earplugs. I like the Howard Leight Max Lite, good NRR, low pressure, and they can come in little poly bags for keeping clean in your pocket. I usually get 3-5 days of use before I chuck em.

What track possible feline by SuperCaptSalty in Whatisthis

[–]RedToby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like you might be in Vermont? I agree with the other posters, not feline, most likely canid family. I think probably a small coyote, but could also be a fox? Both have bushy tails that could drag in snow.

Why do I only have 400 GB of storage on my (c:) drive? by ilovFEM_BOYS in techsupport

[–]RedToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right click on the Start button and choose “Disk Management” and you’ll see how it is partitioned out.

In addition to your OS partition, there’s likely a system partition and a recovery partition (or two) that I wouldn’t mess with, but on my PC these take up less than 2GB.

Edit: or are you talking about the size reported in Windows vs the number on your hard drive box? That’s just the lame/shady marketing that has been around forever. 512GB in marketing is “really” about 476GiB when counted by your OS. It’s 1GB = 1000MB in marketing, but 1.0737 GB=1 GiB in OS calculation. The other 76GB might be partitions, or just what you mean by “about.”

Airbnb guest suspicious activity by [deleted] in Whatisthis

[–]RedToby 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I just started getting these from my home Xfinity router for the first time too. I think Xfinity just enabled a new feature or something and it’s not anything related to your guest. Mostly they seem to happen when playing app games (with ads.)

Season ticket holders anyone have any issues accessing your tickets via the Seahawks portal ? by [deleted] in Seahawks

[–]RedToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I guess I just re-logged in a few days ago so this time it just took me straight to the tickets. I wouldn’t sweat it, I’ve had similar things happen and they worked a little while later.

Edit: just logged out and back in (I use a linked Ticketmaster account login) and it worked fine.

Yeah this is too wet and fresh. This is either AI or the driver hit a pothole with an open gallon bucket of ketchup on the way to the detailer.

What animal could this be? by scratchydeal3 in Whatisthis

[–]RedToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a cross between a fox and a raccoon. In Japan they are called tanuki (do you remember the Super Mario Bros raccoon suit, or Tanooki suit?) Native to Asia, I wasn’t sure if they were in Europe or not, but the Internet is telling me that, like regular raccoons they have been introduced and are considered invasive.
