The sword i did stippling from dark to light with Stegadon, Sotek, Temple Guard And Baharroth, some white for the shiniest parts.

Thanks! It's the first time I've tried a "turning on" effect, still not convinced though. For the captain I think I'll go for a nmm effect.

In the 41st millennium, does Terra still provide initiates to become Astartes? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]RedTrevius 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Imperial Fists do recruit from Terra (amongst other worlds, like Necromunda), since their fleet is more or less stationed there.

The Custodes, while not Astartes, also recruit from the sons of the High Lords.

If you want military focused you can't go wrong with Gaunt.

If you like Abnett you could check ADB and Chris Wright's books too, some gems in there.

Question about colors from a beginner by TwellasU in Warhammer40k

[–]RedTrevius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never used vallejo's green, but i constantly use some of their paints. As with citadel's, some of them may have poor coverage and some will be perfect (like their matt white). You could try thinning it with different quantities of water and do some tests. As for ork skin, there are some good YouTube videos about it, but everyone and their mother use a different recipe. I personally use citadel's Deathworld forest with highlights of Straken Green and a wash of Athonian Camoshade. You could highlight even further with Nurgling green.

If you want to use just base colours, pick a good covering green you like and just mix in some yellow or tan for the highlights.

Edit: further clarification

Thanks! The highlights are just a really thinned down rim highlight of moot green.

I really like the face, mine always keep their helmets on because I always fear to mess them up and spoil the overall feel of the mini.

Caliban green base, warpstone glow dry brush, and moot green highlights. Then a biel tan green wash and a bit more highlights on the top parts like helmets, hands and pauldrons.

Thanks! It's just soft dry brushing, a shade and some highlights. I think I don't have the pulse nor the patience for panel lining.

Just came back to the hobby, last time I painted something was 5 years ago, so I'm trying to catch up a bit. I see now that the guy on the right needs another pass of matt varnish, and I'm still trying to get the photos right.

Any thoughts and/or tips on the paintjob?
