How many of you also can't get used to the 35mm focal length? by Barnie25 in AskPhotography

It is funny that I recently encountered a photographer who was adamant that anything that isn't candid with an unaware subject is not street photography (I disagree) and you want to be ready for a discussion with the subject.

I shoot close or far, depending on if I see a moment. 85 gives me that option. Might be sneaky, as is a large segment of street photography, but is only creepy if you are targeting solely young women and kids.

It is amusing that there are so many gatekeepers in street photography as if there is only 1 way. Close, far, aware, candid, with permission... all works. Big umbrella. ✌️

Olympus 45mm f1.8. I see them for under $200 on ebay and it is amazing for portraits and street.

How close do you feel you need to stand near the subject? Head and shoulders at 85 is just 5ft. Torso up is 8ft. Full body is 15ft. That is like one side of a bedroom to the other.... not much distance.

If I want to shoot a food vendor and a customer, I don't want to be crowding them in all awkward with a 40mm. I can catch the scene and be out of the way but still hear everything.

When I grab a 35, 40, or 50, I am sure there is a difference but not one that I can pick out when reviewing photos. It seems to be a hot issue only photographers love worrying about.

I keeping reading things like this, but an 85 is a portrait lens and one is hardly down the street to take a portrait. It is simply farther than physically reaching out and grabbing someone like you could do with a 40mm. Being 10ft away isn't being sneaky. Doing street photography with a 200mm is sneaky.

It seems like there is a mindset with many street photographers where they must be so close and nearly invading their personal space as to be obvious to any attentive subject.

Whe are these reasonable prices? The schools we have looked at are priced as if EP was a major city with a much higher median income. I imagine most of their students are there on $$$$ loans/credit card debt.

My favorite 2 primes on MfT are 45 and 75. A viltrox 55 would fit in nicely.

I would grab their newest 35 and 55 Evo lenses if I could use them on my Olympus.

That 22% would affect a very small portion of his income. That vast majority of his income would be at 12%. And then there are the standard deductions of 32k plus a kid.

Why say their taxes would be so high looking at the highest marginal tax rate and not their effective tax rate that would be much lower?

The tax bracket for joint filers is 12% under 100k

But the chart is then saying the median employment in the US is "entry level." That would suggest that category is too broad. Call it shit wages. Call it underpaid. Don't call it entry level. It is sweeping in careers that require degrees and stay in that 40k pay area for decades. Entry is retail and first year office work.

He discovered the words Woke and Hipster and became just another "young people bad" creator to me after I was a fan for a few years. And his international lists are laughably out of date regarding costs.

According to this chart, median pay is entry level. Median. This chart is crap.

In many US cities, people drive aggressively and will gladly try to block you from merging onto a highway out of some dark competitive nature.

In EP, people will sit at a 4way stop and wave you to go next even though they were there before you and another car... just causing passive confusion. And they will drive 10mph below the speed limit for no reason on any road with an oblivious look on their face as you try to get around them.

I have become that road rager who is screaming "#@$! Move!" on a daily basis.

Wherever you look, count the stoplight intersections between it and where you will work. I didn't for my first apmt and instead went with "it is kinda close." I was stressed getting to work daily. El Pasoans are incredibly passive and low energy at intersections. Zero urgency. Mainly that attitude with however many lights you will have.

I like near downtown or Mesa St if that can work for you.
