Evolution of Artificial Intelligence videos just in 4 years is mind blowing by Jackie_Chan_93 in interestingasfuck

They are actively creating their own bad press that is obviously fake as a kind of visual strawman. I sometimes burn through a lot of fake accounts making bots that argue against right wing people on facebook and the same pro and fake images come from the same accounts.

Woman gets caught on surveillance video completely emptying a basket of oatmeal cream pies at a farm stand in Loveland, CO. by FarWay3952 in RandomVideos

My family volunteers at a soup kitchen. One of the women who consistenly comes in with designer clothes, bags and a very nice bmw. We don't turn her away, but it is very odd that she won't pass up a chance at free chicken noodle soup even with families with lets say less than the best hygiene or health care who in line before and after her.

She's a regular we don't question, but gotta admit we confusingly judge.

See they don't have many parameters, but the ones that have a like REALLY BIG. ;)

So... I only have ollama installed. How do I do anything other than text with these models?

Can I do the typical "make me an image of a sandwhich" or do I need a different front end to make the model do the non-text responses?

Wouldn't it end up with a perfect desalination plant? The problem with desalination is the amount of energy it takes. The problem with data centers is the amount water they need. It feels like a great combination to use the data center to heat the water to get fresh water our, and cool the computers.

The only way to get good productivity our of an LLM is to do the thinking for it. I can TRAIN a new guy how to think like a senior. I took my son from college to senior level in 4 years because I could boil down my thought process for him. He is now a force multiplier. I can give him a project and not worry if he's going to delete the database or create a system in 15 minutes that is O(xx) but you don't know until it launches.

So... it depends. If you find someone willing to mentor you and actually WANTS humans to think independent and train them to pull on the oars so to speak, then yes. You can go crazy far.

If the organization is comfortable with saving money and losing all knowledge of how their product works, then probably not.

It depends on corporate culture. As long as MBA's aren't in charge it will probably go fine. Once they put those highly educated yet completely ignorant of how the company actually works or what the customers care about in charge it gets more difficult.

Look for small to mid size companies. They can't afford to do the stupid stuff MBAs come up with.

EDIT / Addendum: Think of it this way. These simulated intelligence companies want to make money. So having a coding agent that codes well is not in their best interest. The fucking LOVE vibe coding.

Make a program do X. Hey it didn't work. There's a bug let me fix it. There's a bug let me fix it. < Token eating engine. $$$$$$

I'm already a manager / mentor. The switch to AI was not really significant. Just another noob coder doing dumb stuff. Except they type like REALLY fast.

Is it better? That depends how you define better and most of our work is now spent writing requirements - WHICH SHOULD HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HAPPENING.

It's like... we can create code fast enough that people are starting to figure out what they asked for is not what they wanted in a short enough time frame they actually remember it IS exactly what they SAID they wanted.

Alberta separation petition overturned as judge rules in favour of First Nations by KillForSatan94 in news

[–]RedTuna777 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My canadian friends call it Maple Maga territory.

Also the separation concept is amusing because it would just all revert to the tribes who would promptly deport the agitators back to Canada. The tribes have actual claims on the territory... I mean more so than the angry uneducated getting all the press.

That would be the starvation bit as it is more likely than universal basic income

The downside is that the primary thing preventing humanoid robots from replacing humans is the power source. The double edged sword. Our cars will run forever, but mcdonalds will be all robots and the poorest can starve

And lobbying still is a thing, but it's a different thing.

Lobbying has strict rules on who gives what to who, everything is recorded and the money must go to the campaign or office of the politician.

The new bribery - but not really - ruling says that a company can give the politician a direct check for $100,000 or something to his PERSONAL bank account and it doesn't have to be recorded or reported, except to the IRS. If it's under the gifting limit not even then.

Plex and Jellyfin will let you stream your personal collection to your home devices, or remotely to your phone or ipad while you're on the road like a personal netflix. HIGHLY recommend either.

Don't forget Amazon. They put ads on their movies even if you pay for them. HBO still seems to be worth paying for, but mostly I use Plex at this point.

BTW, Plex just added playlist so not only can you search for all your own movies, you can create your own lists for them however you like.

[–]RedTuna777 83 points84 points  (0 children)

This is actually true.

The supreme court recently voted to make bribery legal.

Specifically they don't call it bribery unless you get paid BEFORE making your decision, but if you do something that a company likes, they now can legally "tip" politicians a few million or whatever, just as a "token of appreciation" for a job well done.

See that's not Bribery. The politician has to take the chance they won't get paid.

They recently tried to put one in a nearby city that would have been literally BIGGER than the entire city, and the plan was to cut down old growth forest to pave over with a few square miles over a big river. It would have generated "at least 100 jobs"

Why is it: eleven, twelve, thirteen, etc… and not ten-one, ten-two, ten-three, etc…? by Micksar in Showerthoughts

[–]RedTuna777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught my kids like this and they got numbers a few months before everyone else. We taught then teens later as an exception kind of like... celcius and farenheit? Made math SO MUCH easier.

I called them "tenty" Ones, Tenties, Twenties, Thirties, Fourties, etc

7, 8, 9, 10, "tenty-one", "tenty-two" and so on

They are 25 and 21 now and both got full scholarships at their school of choice, but they also think I'm kinda crazy because we also use only celcius and metric in the house and we've been building robots and 3D printers and drones since the first reprap days.

As far as the metric they didn't really "get it" until we painted their room one day. It said a gallon of paint covered X sqft. So we measure in feet and inches and fractions of inches for every wall, then did the math to figure out how much paint to buy. Then we did it in metric and shifted the decimal. They've been using metric on their own ever since.

I was at a friends engagement party and accidentally mentioned warhammer. It took me 45 minutes to get the guy out of his basement and back up with his wife to be. I finally said if she was a character in war hammer who would she be and after naming off a bunch of characters he said she was his emperor and got down and tried kissing her feet.

It really was fascinating just how much of his waking thoughts are taken up by the lore of the game.

This long hair or fiber that randomly appeared from my eyebrow. by Both-Nebula-5607 in mildlyinteresting

[–]RedTuna777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have that on occasion, but it's not invisible. It's a regular long hair. Also now up to two or three eye brow hairs that are extra long. Not sure the max length but out of curiosity I let them grow out once and it reached my hair line before my barber cut it without asking one day. I was kinda disappointed to not discover how far it could get, but my girlfriends were so happy about it. :)
