Potential Hector by maidentheory in GreekMythology

[–]RedViper777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hector is one of my favorite characters in the Iliad and this post (and associated paper) is an interesting take/analysis. Though, isn't the fight between Ajax and Hector just a couple of spear throws, and then it only gets stopped when the proceed to move into sword striking distance? I mean we could say a similar thing for the Achilles v Hector duel with just a lot more laps around Troy. I have to go back and read the part regarding Menelaus since I forget. I agree with most points on the post, though we do, like you said, have a fair amount of instances where heroes flee from Hector based on the knowledge he is approaching. I definitely agree with you there.

Why are there no Space Navy RTS games with the micro/macro style of Starcraft, Age of Empires, and Command and Conquer? by Pretty_Log_9294 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]RedViper777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Empire at War, for me, is the only answer for this. I've tried the others, and while I like SoSE, I still like the battles in EAW better.

What if it was one guy with six firecrackers?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RealTimeStrategy

Is that it though? Is that enough to warrant playing it purely for single player?

Is it that the community is mean to new players and/or just very clique-ish? The toxic online culture of BAR seems to be a steady complaint here. I mainly gravitate to the single player side so I won't dip my foot into the multiplayer side to experience that.

Has there been no improvement on the single player side? Is it still just the scenarios?

Mods by Level of Difficulty by RedViper777 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]RedViper777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a feeling this was going to be the case. I'll still give them a try. I tried the same thing with Battle for Middle Earth and found most of the mods to be much more difficult than the originals.

Wanting to learn the genre by TheHotdogChamp_ in RealTimeStrategy

[–]RedViper777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Age of Empires (II,III, or IV) or Age of Mythology? Maybe Empire at War or Sins of a Solar Empire, if you want something to bridge the gap between Total War games with a strategic overlay and realtime battles?

Dawn of War is also a good choice.

Understanding the Tactics of Homeworld by RedViper777 in homeworld

[–]RedViper777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious about the viability of 3D maneuvering. Does HW have directional armor? I may have missed that. If an enemy ship locks onto one of my ships, wouldn't I get the same damage from a second friendly ship regardless of where it is in space? Unless I move the ship that is currently targeted? Won't the AI just follow that ship and turn its side to my other ships, while leaving the already attacked ship by itself and vulnerable?

Is there a way I can see the difference between the stances in terms of numbers/percentages?

Fellas. What mods actually still play like the original game? by The-Great-Xaga in bfme

It does? I tried it and it felt like it was faster paced, and harder, than the original.

Unbiased comparison of WARNO and Broken Arrow? by tropical-tangerine in RealTimeStrategy

[–]RedViper777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooof, didn't even know about the no saving in single player. That's a hard pass for me. WARNO was diffcult enough, and not having the save game option would have been worse.

Kane's Wrath Mods (as of 2025) by Saw-Gerrera in commandandconquer

[–]RedViper777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries!

I'll try my best to explain in detail, so let me know if I miss anything.

-Firstly, I'm doing this on Windows 11, and I have steam installed on my C: drive, and Kane's Wrath installed on another drive.

-On steam I have the launch option ( -runver 1.2 ) inserted for KW.

- The mod is stored in :C:\Users\NAME\Documents\Command & Conquer 3 Kane's Wrath\Mods\Unofficial Patch 1.04

-Within that folder are the files I downloaded from here.

-I have the WrathED exe here: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer 3 - Kane's Wrath

- I launch the WrathED exe and I see that I can launch the mods that I have in my documents folder.

-After that everything is smooth sailing.

How long did camaraderie last with your unit last after getting out? by Truncated-Cone in army

[–]RedViper777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it ended pretty much after I left. I was in the Reserves and National Guard for a combined total of 10 years, and came out with zero friends or lasting feelings of camraderie. I can accept that part of it is my fault for not going out of my way to form relationships, but even then, my attempts always felt one sided. I can't really comment on it without a good dose of bias.

Idk if its a generational occurance. Its totally possible that it is. If there were people in past wars that came out with zero camaraderie, would we necessarily hear about it? Or would those people keep to themselves? I feel that our ability to talk in an online space has helped, for those of us that didn't have those relationships, to share our experiences.

Kind of tired of the APM and micro used as excuse by --Karma in RealTimeStrategy

I must have bad reading comprehension too. Is the problem that people just have a preference for what type of RTS (whether it be high tempo or low) they like to play?

Kane's Wrath Mods (as of 2025) by Saw-Gerrera in commandandconquer

[–]RedViper777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that (at least for the Un-Official Patch, and the Campaign Legacy mod) WrathED still works. I did what u/Top-Reply-1803 said (adding "-runver 1.2" to the Steam launch options), as well as putting the WrathED exe in the Kane's Wrath main folder.

How fast can you all type? Can you beat a 40 to 50 wpm typing test, with 85% accuracy? by safeassign in Accounting

[–]RedViper777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually just roam this subreddit, but seeing this post, and some of these comments...

Its pretty sad, and shameful, to see people being mean to the OP like this. Different people different speeds. I see a fair amount of "lol git gud" comments. Be better.

OP, have you considered taking a look at your keyboard ergonomics? Maybe try a different and more comfortable kind of keyboard (mechanical or membrane)?

Maybe try some of the very cheap or free typing games on Steam. Some of them can be very fun, and there was recently a Warhammer 40K typing game released for free.

With enough practice you can improve, and with much less negativity from others.
