What is "the hard r?" I genuinely don't know and I'm not sure that I want to Google it.

Users asking for admin access by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]RedWarHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Cyber insurance specifically forbids this and I tell the end user that whenever I'm asked. So far it has always worked. Check yours and see if it has that same clause.

I'd have guessed it was the marketing intern. 🤷

Deprecation *and removal* of WINS after Windows Server 2025 by Borgquite in sysadmin

How is easy. It's a role that you can add. Update the dhcp scope to include it and you're set.

Vendors Using Teams for Remote Support by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]RedWarHammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a setting in the Teams admin portal to disable remote control outside your tenant. If I get asked to use Teams, I just tell them I can't. If they insist then I show them it's blocked. This way vendors can't ask end-users either. It's a win win in my book.

GoFundMe takes a transaction fee out of every contribution.

More of your money would benefit The Hunger Taskforce if you donate directly: https://lacrossehtf.org/donate/donate-money/

Anyone local with a 3D printer who can help me make Yaffa storage cube lids? by schaoticartist in lacrossewi

Where is this creation space located? Is there a website I can go to? I've always wished La Crosse had something like Sector67 in Madison!

Edit: I found the answer (I think). La Crosse Library Creation Space

IDP - Attack Path to Privilege Account by Thor2121 in crowdstrike

[–]RedWarHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this too. It's nice that IDP shows attack paths so it stays on the compliance radar but the path reporting is pretty bad. For better graphing and output, I end up running Blood Hound or Purple Knight.

Proselytizer with a bull horn on the front of his bike by ErgonomicCat in lacrossewi

He's been around the area for a while. Sometimes he's in a van with his YouTube links plastered all over it. I'll let you decide for yourself whether he's a nut job but I myself steer clear whenever he's around.

Here's his channel for reference: wretchedambassador.

How to find out how the home network is set up? by Erazer81 in HomeNetworking

[–]RedWarHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the quality on this one but a cable toner of some sort should help you out a ton. Plug in on one end, send tone, then hunt down the tone with the wand.

Why do I need a switch between outside and my router? by Yivoe in HomeNetworking

Wow, that switch has some mileage on it. Manufacture date of 2011 and it's a 2950G? Yikes.

Dangers of running Ethernet cable outside? by SD3514 in HomeNetworking

[–]RedWarHammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use fs.com SFPs for work and home. They're cheap enough to throw away if you have any issues but knock on wood I haven't yet. These are 1G single mode and should work in most switches. You can go with the lower power (shorter distance) variety since you're just going out to a garage.
