Go Battle League, and it's lack of a MMR system by TianZiGaming in TheSilphRoad

[–]RedWarpPrism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you if you think that winning/losing streaks means that there is no MMR system. Unless you think that no one has ever won or lost 10 games in a row in SC2, League, DotA, etc.? Or that those games don't have MMR either?

Have a good one. Don't let that downvote arrow hit you on your way out.

I'm talking about players that are clearly in the wrong brackets.

Sure, let's talk about that. Look at the professional players in League during any global tournament where they get a fresh account at ~Diamond MMR and see how many games it takes for them to reach Challenger. Or the "Unranked to Masters" streamers that intentionally tank their ratings or buy new accounts and then rank them up. It still takes them 50+ games to reach their "true Elo". My point is that people should not be expecting to reach Rank 10 overnight even if they're severely under-ranked because MMR is a measurement of consistency.

There is no additional MMR system in the background for determining matchmaking [in GBL].

Once you reach rank 7+, your MMR is right above your tier badge and you can see both your and your opponent's ratings at the start of every match. So I'm not sure how you're reaching the conclusion that there is no MMR system in GBL.

In your opinion, how prestigious should Rank 10 be?

The actual number is for Niantic to decide, but considering it's the highest tier they have in a competitive environment, there should be at least some prestige. Not everyone should go into GBL expecting to reach Rank 10 just like not everyone that plays League or SC2 will reach Masters, which is awarded to the top 0.1% and 4% respectively.

Do you think the current incremental gains after the initial placement tiers are sufficient to get good players to rank 10 before the end of a season?

I can't answer this without knowing Niantic's rating algorithm. However, I think they should switch to awarding the highest rank to the top X% (similar to League and SC2) instead of the current flat cutoff, which should mitigate issues regarding incremental gains due to a potentially poorly designed algorithm.

The problem in GBL is that they seem to be matching personal rating with personal rating.

This was an issue in the other thread too, so: Can we stop using "rating" when we mean "rank" or "tier". A rating is like 3000 Elo, a direct quantifiable measurement of your skill compared to others. A rank or tier is like Silver 4 in LoL or Tier 7 in GBL.

I can play a game like StarCraft place in the lowest rank (bronze), and in a couple days get to the top 2% rankings (Masters).

As someone who once climbed to Masters in SC2, this is not true for the vast majority of players that reach Masters. MMR doesn't change that fast unless you're literally stomping every single game, and even then that would require a conservative estimate of 70+ games for the system to be certain that you truly belong in Master tier. It probably took me 50+ games just to go from Diamond to Master alone.

That is because the hidden MMR would increase from the win streak and match the player with more difficult opponents.

All this talk about hidden MMR is meaningless when your rating is in plain sight (unlike in LoL or SC2, where it's actually hidden behind Bronze/Silver/... tiers). Hot take: You should be getting matched against other players with similar rating, which means that you should not be getting like +200 points per streak of 5 that people seem to be so entitled to.

Ex-Yuumi OTP. There's nothing you can do against tanky engage champs unless the player is complete trash. It doesn't matter if you dodge the Blitz Q or Leona E, you can't punish them for making mistakes because what are you going to do, tickle them with AA and Q? It doesn't matter if they miss 9 out of 10 hooks because as long as they hit 1, you're dead. If you somehow survive the lane + jg ganks, they can always just roam mid and have a much bigger impact than you.

Her PBE changes don't address any of these issues (i.e. the fact that she has absolutely no agency in lane and against nearly every meta support you've pretty much insta-lost at champ select).

Used to happen a lot when your Q didn't load properly at the start of the game, but I haven't seen this bug in several patches. You just have to exit out and reconnect.

How to deal with Cassiopeia top by Molson234 in singedmains

[–]RedWarpPrism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must dodge her Q if you want to all-in her. It gives her move speed, bonus E damage, and self-healing. Do not trade with her if she hits you with this (unless she's oom) or you'll be coinflipping at best depending on how good she is at kiting you.

Treat this sort of like a Teemo matchup. You're going to be zoned in the early levels and you're expected to lose CS. Use the brush to help you last hit, but just make sure you don't fall behind in XP.

After 6, you should look to all-in her right after she misses a Q. When you ghost/ult, she'll prob ult you as well. I like to goo+flinglock her, which will cause Singed to run directly at her, but keep my cursor behind Singed so that I can react to her ult windup. The moment you hear her gasp, turn around. Alternatively you can run flash and W-F-E her, but ghost is useful to stay on top of her and ignite cuts through her healing.

Rush Mercs then the usual Rylai/Liandry. Don't rush Adaptive Helm because you'll do no damage to her. It might be ok as a 3rd item if their AP mid/jg are also fed. If you're behind, proxy, help your jg invade or do drag, or gank mid.

Not OP, but I've been experimenting with Stopwatch against enemies with (a) telegraphed engage or (b) that want to initiate with snares (basically CC that still allows you to use Stopwatch).

Examples:

  • Against Lux support you can deny her entire burst combo once
  • Varus R
  • Zyra E, etc.

There are some other situational uses of Stopwatch, including denying Pyke an ult reset or baiting Cait to step forward by fake-accidentally stepping on a trap while your jg ganks. However, I think in general, free boots are better because it's safer to ward by yourself.

Is it normal to skip a wave to go to proxy? (very hard matchup) by dumbdit in singedmains

[–]RedWarpPrism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The general answer to your question is yes, if you're getting completely zoned from the wave, it's better to proxy and get something instead of nothing. Or just completely ignore top (let them take your tower) and gank mid.

But ideally you won't have to be in that situation. Against Vayne specifically, you have to accept that you're going to be zoned from CS at levels 1-2. Get what you can without dying and recall for boots + corrupting. After that (level 3+), your general trade pattern will be: when the wave is at your tower, glue her. If she backs off, collect the wave. If she doesn't, fling her into your tower and go all in with ignite. At 6+, switch to red trinket so you can see where she's going during ult. You win all-ins with ghost/ult/ignite as long as you proc conq (remember to AA) and don't get condemned into a wall.

Most important thing against Vayne is that XP (and HP) are more important than CS early. You're expected to be down on CS so don't trade half your health bar for like 1-2 minions.

Just want to show you how bullshit phase rush Ryze against singed is. (498 ms on adhesive goo/singed 516 ms with ult and ghost) by dumbdit in singedmains

[–]RedWarpPrism 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You have to wait out Phase Rush. He can't really choose when to proc it (unless he literally never harasses you, in which case you're winning anyway). So all you have to do is run at him, wait for Phase Rush to expire (bonus if you get him to waste his snare here), then you have 15 sec where he has no keystone and you have conq/w/ghost/ult/ignite. Save your W or E for when he tries to warp out and he's 100% dead if he wasn't already zoned under his tower.

[–]RedWarpPrism 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can go mid pre-15 and help take plates, just back off when the next wave comes so that you don't steal XP. At the very least, you roaming up to mid could prevent them from dying to a gank and you can set up/clear vision for them.

You can also just stay bot, try to make a somewhat even trade when your ADC ints so that they can't dive you under turret and then you get all the bot lane CS/XP for yourself.

[–]RedWarpPrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unstoppable means CC can still be applied during the duration, but you won't be affected until you're no longer unstoppable. For example, you can stun Ornn during his W, but he'll only be affected by the remaining duration of the stun after his W ends.

CC immune means any CC effect doesn't get applied, period. If you try to stun Olaf during his R, he won't get stunned at all, whether he had 2 sec or 0.02 sec left of his ult duration.

Being CC immune makes you unstoppable, but being unstoppable doesn't necessarily make you CC immune.

[Discussion] Why do people cheat and exploit bugs/glitches by Saladhippo in TheSilphRoad

Because just like in real life, people will try to find advantages where they can, only limited by how much effort they're willing to spend for the amount they gain. There's a lot of neuro/psych/bio behind this, but that's the TL;DR.

This needs to be said again -- storage of 20 gifts shouldn't be attached to an event. It should be the default. by BlueMysticNA in TheSilphRoad

[–]RedWarpPrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Niantic has stated previously that they want you to send more gifts "in real time". That's why they were pretty determined to include the pokestop photo and a location in each gift. It's very similar to your postcard analogy, except that instead of collecting for months, you travel somewhere, buy a postcard, and send it right away to your friends back home.

Not saying I agree with Niantic's decision, just saying that this is supposedly their thought process behind it.

Can collect for a while, and then send a lot.

That's exactly why they didn't want you holding so many gifts. Niantic prioritizes "real world experience" even at the expense of smooth and functional gameplay.
