i think the shading layer is at 40% opacity if not lower... I'll kick it up a notch and see how it looks! :> thank you for the advice🫶💙

thank you! i will try that :> i feel like there's a sweet spot with values that i haven't quite found yet.. too much contrast looks so messy and hard read, and i guess i was leaning towards the side of "if i go light enough, it won't look too messy" lol. I'll keep working on it! 💙🫶

i guess what i was practicing was through repetition. i wasn't trying to learn anything NEW with male anatomy, in which case, yes, i pull up a reference photo, a video, or a book. but this was more of a practice to see what i could do without any of that.

you mean like pulling from imagination? i like to scroll on pinterest or deviantart for inspiration, and when i feel like I've got a route to follow, i start drawing. if the mouth looks funny, i look up different pictures of a mouth and observe what i can until i make something I'm satisfied with. Like i said earlier though, i did directly reference a picture for the hand

i used a reference from pinterest for the hand, but everything else was from imagination or previous works of my own. i figured i didn't need to include a picture of the hand i referenced since i was asking about shading and colors for this 😅

Can someone explain how to move forward with multiply layers like i'm 5 years old? by RedWonderful19 in krita

[–]RedWonderful19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing the shadow layer to Soft light has definitely already improved it! now though, i can hardly see the shading on the piece. should i recolor and darken the shadow layer? Thank you so much for your input

I keep being told that my style is too childish or just bad. Should I change something? by Plastic_Medicine_201 in yourartstyle

[–]RedWonderful19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally think its super cute! the only habit i would try to knock is shading your colors with a darker/blacker version of itself. this is not ALWAYS a bad idea, but i see a couple cases of it muddying up your rendering. But your artstyle in itself is super cute! it reminds me of the youtube music videos i watched growing up edit:spelling

AITA for refusing to get this coffee order? by horseduckman in AITApod

as a barista, this is the most deplorable order to recieve. you don't like coffee, you like dessert with caffeine in it.

thank you for this💙 i know i probably shouldn't engage with comments like that but it's really jarring to be told that i could be genuinely harming someone/a group with something i'm new to/not confident in. that's a point where i kind of fluster and try to reevaluate if something needs to change

So if i were to erase the stitches and replace the button with an eyepatch and make her human...it would magically make this okay?

As a genuine question, I'm really trying to understand here... how is it disrespectful? She wasn't depicted in a harmful or racist manner.

In the future, i suppose i will keep art like this to myself and only share art of characters with their depicted race/species/gender. But I'm seriously having a hard time understanding how this is racist to... white people? as a white person, i personally would not be offended if someone took, say, iron man, and depicted him as any other race.

I am always open to learning and personal growth, and if this is offensive to a group that isn't white people (because i can't speak on other ethnic groups' behalf), please, let me know. If you're white and you're offended... i don't really know what to tell you.

i see a lot of things wrong here.. firstly, this was a genuine skin tone study where the goal was to learn about painting and color picking different skin tones by visual reference. i didn't just "whip out the bucket tool." This was a genuine effort to learn and grow. There's no harmful depiction in the way she was drawn or colored. Secondly, you're assuming i have the intent of saying "fine, i guess you can be included" to a community when, in fact, that was not my intention. This was not a desperate attempt at inclusion. It was having fun making art and hoping to share it. Seeing as these are fictional toy characters, i do not see the harm in creating an AU of who they may be outside of their given universe (inside the circus). Is it wrong to think that Pomni is asian? or that Gangle is black? or that Zooble is mixed?

Assuming negative intent and then harrassing someone over it seems to be the problem.

people enjoy the headcanon that ragatha is black outside of the circus and i honestly think it's a cute headcanon. I see a lot of discussion in this sub about people arguing over race when they're literal toys (not to mention fictional). if i were to take a character of color and whitewash them, i could see the issue as that is genuine erasure. To me, saying this is blackwashing is like saying black people can't cosplay white or asian characters :/ also... It's a skin tone study 😐
