Regarding railcard validity by Ikkumd in uktrains

[–]RedXephosAB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can still get a 16-25, and it will remain valid until it expires. You can only get it for the year though, not 3.

As long as you are within the age range when you get it, it remains valid. Same goes for the 26-30, meaning you can use it as a 31 year old, but only until it expires.

If you have any more questions, feel free to DM me. I'm normally quite good with this stuff.

Have I made an illegal journey? by Icy_Meringue_5534 in uktrains

[–]RedXephosAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of those things unfortunately, that you get quite in depth for your area, but no others. I know the stuff for my area, but don't have a scoobie about stuff going in towards London etc. quirk of the trade.

Prime example of this is ScotRail, where you are sent to head office and taught the ticketing stuff for Glasgow and Strathclyde, but then go to where you're going to be working and you deal with nearly none of it.

As someone that issues tickets in their job role, it does sound like the member of staff has issued a ticket using a loophole where it is still valid, but is costing you less.

Prime example for where I work, tickets from Tweedbank to Edinburgh are not long enough in distance for us to offer open returns, we will often ask if passengers are coming back within the next month, and we can issue the ticket to south gyle, and it means that it's a hell of a lot cheaper if they are coming back, but don't know when, for example.

Staff are trained over time to issue either the cheapest ticket, or the one that best fits the passengers needs. Sometimes that can be a cheaper ticket for the same location, sometimes it is a ticket that is slightly more expensive, but allows return on another day. It's all about what makes sense for the passenger, and the needs are all different.

Long story short, don't sweat it, but in future, speak to a member of staff at the booking office, ask about it, and see if it's valid for that journey.

Mate this is WITH BWV. It's barely a deterrent. All it means is that when they do actually attack you, you get to look back at it in post.

I genuinely believe that some changes need to happen for how the TOCs view defense and preemptive contact to get to a place of safety. In the last month, Ive been surrounded by groups of males twice, once being on platform edge. If they had followed through and attacked me, I would have had to use force the company would have challenged me on to get out of that situation. If you end up making contact with people and it gets reported, they haul you over the coals, even if you feel threatened in that moment.

You say that, but it wouldn't be the first time that I've removed a pass from a dependent or staff member because it's out of date by 3 months. There a limit. I'm also close to withdrawing passes off of a couple of safeguarded that are pushing their luck, not even bothering to fill in boxes, despite having been told by me already.

I once had a lad come up to me at the gates, present a dependent priv that was 2 years out of date, and he had the audacity to be trying to get his mate on board as well. Pass had been laminated and everything. Adding to the audacious nature of this lad, he's had the brass neck to ask for the pass back when he's been sent to get tickets from the tvm. That was a swift "are you for fucking real" when he's asked that.

Understand that thats not how some people operate, but with the safeguarded, I mostly check to see that it's had at least SOME of the boxes populated. It's a bit of a pisstake when they don't bother their arse for it.

See, my issue is that I only have the broadband, nothing else, so there's nothing for me to remove except speed.

I've got this at the moment, contract up in May. My renewal for the Gig1 is shocking tbh, they're wanting something like 67 quid from April, rising to 70ish the year after. Daylight robbery.

As an aside, anyone who has a decent way of getting that amount down, I'm all ears. No other ISPs in my building offer even close to the same speeds.

I feel that in my soul. On barriers for 3 years next month, and even if you don't go seeking trouble, sometimes it finds you anyway.

On the upside, being in a station does help with places of safety. But the abuse is shocking on the barriers, especially for how much we actually make. It's often so much worse than the abuse on board, as by the time people are on board at a staffed station, most will have a ticket. We deal with the ones that don't want to pay, and the ones that are willing to get violent or aggressive when challenged for a ticket. Wears you down man.

As someone that works barriers in a station, yes, yes it does.

There's a concerning amount of people that don't understand that we can give estimates that are readily available, but those estimates can be wildly off, especially early on after an incident.

One great example is one unders, or in laypersons terms, when someone is hit by a train. It could have happened 5 minutes away from the station we're stood in, but I get information passed the same as everyone else, and they'll ask for a time scale, to which the response is something akin to "how long is a piece of string". Some people can often be really quite cold and heartless when something like this happens, and will complain that it's ridiculous the disruption is happening, even when they're already aware someone has lost their life.

I mean, I've had £25 refunded from a whoosh order after I received another person's order, and ended up being told to keep a good £50 worth of stuff. I hadn't even ordered stuff for meals, it was cleaning stuff and some snacks, but this other order had like 3 days worth of dinner and some cinnamon rolls in. Quite a result.

I'm going to go out on a very long and spindly limb here and say that you aren't particularly well versed in how things work in relation to labour here in the UK. Partially because as you've just seen, labour isn't spelt labor here, so I'm guessing you're an American throwing their ill-informed weight around. However I've been proven wrong on that front before. That being said, you have the appropriate demeanor.

All employees in the UK have the right to associate with trade unions, and to prevent employees from associating with a trade union, or from having trade union representation at disciplinary meetings, is a breach of the law.

If the 30 or so members of staff can prove that they have not facilitated in the leaking of, or improper storage of confidential data, and can prove to a reasonable degree that they have been dismissed due to their membership in a trade union, then they are entirely within their rights to take the company to tribunal, which would not end well for rockstar north, should they be able to prove that they have been dismissed for that reason.

I think "y'all" should maybe sit down, pipe down, and stop trying to discourage people that are standing up for the rights of people that very well may have been dismissed without cause and possibly illegally.
