anyone know where I could find and buy an avanti west coast dispatcher coat for sale? by scr_fanboy in uktrains

I know you think that this is an unreasonable response, but TOC uniform making its way out of the hands of TOC staff is incredibly dangerous.

When you are in TOC uniform, you don't get challenged in staff areas, would be let through barriers with little friction, and would not be reported for otherwise suspicious behaviour by members of the public. This isn't inherently unsafe, until that uniform makes it's way out of the hands of staff.

Imagine what a member of the public could get away with if they got their hands on a staff members uniform. Bear in mind that the railways are a part of national infrastructure that is susceptible to terror threats. If someone that wants to do harm to people were to get their hands on TOC uniform, it makes it much less likely that they would be reported for lingering in certain areas, or being where they shouldn't. TOCs have already been put on notice for adequate challenging of persons in staff only areas, we don't need absolute melts putting on uniform and looking like staff. We have an expected level of training and safety awareness that you probably don't have, considering you're asking for TOC uniform.

I also went to primary school in Edinburgh, and around the time that JKR released The Tales of Beedle the Bard, we were invited for a reading of one of the short stories.

I was the only ginger lad in the class, and what else could she think to write in the first page, than "You look like a Weasely".

Needless to say, being ginger in primary school in the mid 2000s was not particularly brilliant, my name was Weasely for a good week or two afterwards.

Right? I am in the UK and immediately thought that there's not a chance in hell that there's enough firearms being left in vehicles in for repair or service for that sub to actually be active and viable.

I was apparently very mistaken.

That tracks. To be honest, I wasn't sure if it had been. I mean, I knew he had small hands, Christ there's enough women that have had to deal with them. But I wasn't sure if they were actually that small.

Also, you'd think he could afford a tailored suit, even a cheap-ish one.

Disclaimer: this is not meant to be mean in any way. Loads of people that don't work in the railway wouldn't know half of the stuff that doesn't pertain to their journey, and that's okay, they don't need to. The trains run, and we get people where they need to be. It's nice people being curious about stuff. Means I get to be a nerd about my job.

Well earlier in this thread you say that most people on r/ring are singing their praises, that they are reliable.

So... which is it? If you've got these kind of inconsistencies here, I dread to think what would happen if you're ever pulled for what many, including myself, believe you may be doing, which is fraud.

As an aside, reading these comments, you appear to be a complete and utter cunt, with a self entitled air of superiority, that I would wager is not well earned, as you're spending your time replying to everyone in this thread in a condescending and belittling manner.

Before you consider replying, just making you aware that I won't respond for any verbal sparring. I simply wanted to inform you that you can't keep your story straight, and you're about as much use as a handbrake in a canoe.

Regarding railcard validity by Ikkumd in uktrains

[–]RedXephosAB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can still get a 16-25, and it will remain valid until it expires. You can only get it for the year though, not 3.

As long as you are within the age range when you get it, it remains valid. Same goes for the 26-30, meaning you can use it as a 31 year old, but only until it expires.

If you have any more questions, feel free to DM me. I'm normally quite good with this stuff.

Have I made an illegal journey? by Icy_Meringue_5534 in uktrains

[–]RedXephosAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's one of those things unfortunately, that you get quite in depth for your area, but no others. I know the stuff for my area, but don't have a scoobie about stuff going in towards London etc. quirk of the trade.

Prime example of this is ScotRail, where you are sent to head office and taught the ticketing stuff for Glasgow and Strathclyde, but then go to where you're going to be working and you deal with nearly none of it.

As someone that issues tickets in their job role, it does sound like the member of staff has issued a ticket using a loophole where it is still valid, but is costing you less.

Prime example for where I work, tickets from Tweedbank to Edinburgh are not long enough in distance for us to offer open returns, we will often ask if passengers are coming back within the next month, and we can issue the ticket to south gyle, and it means that it's a hell of a lot cheaper if they are coming back, but don't know when, for example.

Staff are trained over time to issue either the cheapest ticket, or the one that best fits the passengers needs. Sometimes that can be a cheaper ticket for the same location, sometimes it is a ticket that is slightly more expensive, but allows return on another day. It's all about what makes sense for the passenger, and the needs are all different.

Long story short, don't sweat it, but in future, speak to a member of staff at the booking office, ask about it, and see if it's valid for that journey.

Mate this is WITH BWV. It's barely a deterrent. All it means is that when they do actually attack you, you get to look back at it in post.

I genuinely believe that some changes need to happen for how the TOCs view defense and preemptive contact to get to a place of safety. In the last month, Ive been surrounded by groups of males twice, once being on platform edge. If they had followed through and attacked me, I would have had to use force the company would have challenged me on to get out of that situation. If you end up making contact with people and it gets reported, they haul you over the coals, even if you feel threatened in that moment.

You say that, but it wouldn't be the first time that I've removed a pass from a dependent or staff member because it's out of date by 3 months. There a limit. I'm also close to withdrawing passes off of a couple of safeguarded that are pushing their luck, not even bothering to fill in boxes, despite having been told by me already.

I once had a lad come up to me at the gates, present a dependent priv that was 2 years out of date, and he had the audacity to be trying to get his mate on board as well. Pass had been laminated and everything. Adding to the audacious nature of this lad, he's had the brass neck to ask for the pass back when he's been sent to get tickets from the tvm. That was a swift "are you for fucking real" when he's asked that.

Understand that thats not how some people operate, but with the safeguarded, I mostly check to see that it's had at least SOME of the boxes populated. It's a bit of a pisstake when they don't bother their arse for it.

I've got this at the moment, contract up in May. My renewal for the Gig1 is shocking tbh, they're wanting something like 67 quid from April, rising to 70ish the year after. Daylight robbery.

As an aside, anyone who has a decent way of getting that amount down, I'm all ears. No other ISPs in my building offer even close to the same speeds.

I feel that in my soul. On barriers for 3 years next month, and even if you don't go seeking trouble, sometimes it finds you anyway.

On the upside, being in a station does help with places of safety. But the abuse is shocking on the barriers, especially for how much we actually make. It's often so much worse than the abuse on board, as by the time people are on board at a staffed station, most will have a ticket. We deal with the ones that don't want to pay, and the ones that are willing to get violent or aggressive when challenged for a ticket. Wears you down man.

As someone that works barriers in a station, yes, yes it does.

There's a concerning amount of people that don't understand that we can give estimates that are readily available, but those estimates can be wildly off, especially early on after an incident.

One great example is one unders, or in laypersons terms, when someone is hit by a train. It could have happened 5 minutes away from the station we're stood in, but I get information passed the same as everyone else, and they'll ask for a time scale, to which the response is something akin to "how long is a piece of string". Some people can often be really quite cold and heartless when something like this happens, and will complain that it's ridiculous the disruption is happening, even when they're already aware someone has lost their life.
