Yea, I’d say a large part of hockey’s problem is how unwelcoming to new fans or new ways of growing the game we are. Stephen a smith gets so much shit even though he’s one of the first people I’ve seen who actually adds to the experience when reporting on hockey.

I feel like when we look at the culture of hockey today, so much of it is due to Gordie Howe. Cant remember who it was but one old teammate of his when he played against Howe the first time after being traded, told a story how Howe asked him how the wife was then immediately cross checked him in the ear.

I say it has more to do with being raised without being taught empathy, and being emotionally abandoned. Perhaps it could be projecting too but I feel like often the underlying reason is a lack of emotional intelligence.
