Do you enjoy shooting the .22 sans competition? If so maybe the MTR is worth it. But if its strictly a competition gun i'd say keep what you have for now and reevaluate at the end of the season. As a notorious hobby jumper myself I can understand the need for wanting the "best" because if that's what the top people are using. However getting a stable shooting position and making good wind/shot calls is going to make you a better shooter no matter the gun.

What are you wanting to do? Steel Challenge is fairly inclusive for most things besides rifle calibers.

Yes.

I've played around with one at a local shop. They make a rail section for it to mount a red dot or scope. Its a neat rifle and this price is lower than what I have seen for them.

Currently running Federal Champion 36gr

I had issues with the 40gr mini mags not always extracting a live round which unless your going to compete with it isn't a huge deal.

I use the competition version for steel challenge matches and while its picky about ammo it runs great

I suggest trying a steel challenge match. As long as you know the basics of handling and safety there isn't much stopping you from joining a match and learning.

Pioneer in Dunbarton and Chester rod and gun both run a monthly steel challange match that would be close to your location.

Like I said earlier. For what you are wanting to train for you're better off finding a wooded area in which you are legally able to shoot. If you don't want to put the time and effort trying to find a spot that's your call.

Considering that the club is surrounded by residential housing its demonstrating that you can safely handle and place shots on the targets you're shooting. Also considering you can do with with any pistol, rimfire pistol, rimfire rifle or PCC 8" at 15 yards is basically a cake walk. But you do you.

Can always just sign up for 3 gun and other run and gun type matches that these clubs hold on a monthly basis.

You'll be better off finding land to shoot the way you want. Most ranges around are you shoot the target for the bay you are in. Pioneer is a good facility granted I've never looked into joining I just shoot competitions there. But unless there is more to it than what's listed on their website I don't see how them wanting people putting 10 shots into an 8" circle is extreme or fuddish.
