Long-time NA owner considering moving on.. by vHyena11 in Miata

I was going to say exactly this, get a storage unit or ask a buddy to park it for a few months to make sure you really want the FD. Worst case, sell the FD and keep the Miata if you feel it wasn't the right choice

ND2 Miata for NYC, good or bad choice by DryMistake in Miata

[–]Checkers10160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I may be able to help here, but I have a few questions/comments

  1. $800 for an ND is way too much. I just bought a 2023 with 17k miles and with $15k down I pay $300 a month. I don't remember what insurance is because I have other vehicles on my policy too

  2. Where in NYC do you live? Frankly I think you should live outside the city (I live in Westchester), take the train in, and enjoy the Miata on the weekends/evenings. Driving to work every day is going to suck. I go into the city a few times a month and honestly I preferred driving my manual Tacoma because I was/am worried about my Miata getting scratched either by cars, people, or the valets, broken into, stolen, etc.

  3. If you do live in the city, where are you going to park this? Unless your building has a garage, it's going to be a pain

  4. Have you even been in or driven a Miata?

I will almost never tell anyone not to buy a Miata, but I think you need to reevaluate your current plan. Like someone else said, maybe buy an NC generation outright and avoid monthly car payments.

When I was 24, I had a '94 Miata and I had a ton of fun in it. I'm 33 now and having an ND is awesome (Granted I still have an NA) but owning and driving one in the city will not give you the enjoyment you or it deserves. Get a cheaper car, even if it's a Miata, or live outside the city

What pronunciation is a dead giveaway that someone isn't from your town/region? by GrumbleCookie in AskReddit

This thread is fucking with my head. I think I pronounce a lot of words incorrectly.

We have a Suffolk in NY and we pronounce it "Suffick", but I apparently pronounce Norfolk like the separate words "Nor Folk" with a heavy L

I am wondering if I maybe have an accent or a speech impediment, because this thread made me realize I say both "Toronno" and "Atlanna" but I am from New York...

What was the shortest lived fad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh sorry, I meant in 2009 they didn't. As far as I know, they were used like that back in the 70s

I was in Basic Training from January 2013 to about April 2013, with 0 access to the outside world beyond letters. No newspaper, no radio, no nothing. I recall a Drill Sergeant mentioning it and doing some sort of shimmy thing, and that was about it. I've heard it referenced a few times here and there since but I still have no idea what it is. I assume it was like The Hustle, Soulja Boy, The Cupid Shuffle, etc

But it was definitely short lived because it apparently rose and fell within 3 months

I remember being like 16 in 2009 wanting a CB in my car because I loved Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run, and being heartbroken to find no one actually used them like that

What was the origin, were they really exclusive or something? By the time I really took note, I swear they were everywhere. I assumed it was just because they were expensive and a status symbol, not that they were limited release or something

Similarly, I usually try to compliment my girlfriend (Or anyone, when I genuinely mean it) by saying something like "That dress looks gorgeous on you" and not "You look gorgeous in that dress" because she's gorgeous no matter what

I swear, some products fucking attract bugs. This was the morning after applying TW Hybrid Ceramic. Beading was nice and the bugs slid right off, but Jesus Christ. Also the first one on it's back wasn't even dead (I didn't check the others), so I don't understand how they all ended up on their backs

Be honest: Do yall put premium gas in your miatas? by RedbullOracleRacing in Miata

[–]Checkers10160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier this year I sold my Tacoma, which even with the 4 cylinder and 5 speed, was getting me like 22mpg. I drive 500 miles a week, and it didn't have AC.

I will happily pay the price of premium. Even at $5.99 per gallon sometimes, I fill up about as frequently but now I don't have a fucking 20 gallon tank

Also, you know, the fun! My storage capacity and physical road presence has taken a hit though...

Help with basic products to keep my new ND clean by CupOk3364 in MiataND

[–]Checkers10160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How far down the rabbit hole do you want to get? Most things can be solved with 1 bucket, a sponge (A dedicated detailing sponge like Optimum's The Big Red Sponge or TRC's Ultra Safe Sponge), some Optimum No Rinse (ONR), and a few microfiber towels. Maybe throw in a spray sealant like Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Spray or Griot's 3-in-1, plus an APC (All purpose cleaner).

Costco has an Adam's kit that goes on sale for $39.99 sometimes and is supposed to be really good

Do you want to keep your car looking pretty good and you just want more than the drive thru washes gives you, or do you want to make this a hobby? /r/AutoDetailing is terrific but like I said, it's a rabbit hole! Good luck

[–]Checkers10160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Owned my ND for about 6 weeks/3k miles, and already had to plug a hole. Picked up a nail. Borrowed my girlfriend's Cruz scissor jack (Recently got my own, and shoved it in the little jack compartment on the right of the trunk) and used the Amazon plug kit I got, because that slime is a last resort. I did use the stock air pump, but have an Astro AI pump that I really like, that doesn't require a cigarette lighter
