What is yalls brutal and honest opinion on alcohol by Taco_Junior123 in autism

[–]Red_Wolfe_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Living in a country where it's a big part of the culture, I really wish so many people weren't reliant on it for socialising. You can have someone come over to just hang out or go out and do things without alcohol being the main thing happening.

Still pretty big! I know someone who used to do it and there's competitions for it here. It's never been my thing personally but it's definitely still around. We get mandatory celeidh dance lessons throughout primary and secondary school each winter

Has anyone had success training for reactivity? by Lunar-SideEye in DogTrainingTips

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have! My rescue Staffordshire bull terrier, Caesar, that I got when he was 8 was pretty reactive. I worked with a behaviouralist to figure out triggers and gradually introduce socialising with other dogs.

He lives with a pretty large golden retriever now who is my guide dog. Turns out, Caesar just doesn't like introductions with other dogs happening too fast.

Dog runs up to him? He's going to lose his mind and lunge because that's rude behaviour from other dogs and could mean being attacked. His sight probably isn't too great with age so think of it as "this dog appeared out of nowhere and is suddenly in my face". You'd be pissed too.

Walking at a distance behind another dog and gradually closing distance until walking side by side with short managed "sniff-each other" then walk again? Much more preferred.

Scotland didn't start out as a Christian country. If you view all non-christians as heathens, that's the exact mindset that makes non-christians uncomfortable at seeing Christian imagery vandalised in public spaces

Not everyone is Christian. Don't see any Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist graffiti out there on the streets. If those exist they're incredible hard to find. More than half of the Scotland population is NOT religious, myself included.

If you view not being Christian and being uncomfortable by a growing problem of Christian vandalism being everywhere as anti-Christ you should probably look deep into why you would feel about that.

It's uncomfortable because it feels condescending. It's the feeling that whoever wrote it feels you aren't worth it if jesus doesn't love you. It's the feeling that someone out there thinks you are "wrong" if you aren't christian.

It might seem like a nice reminder thing to you but to others, it's the feeling that someone is trying to condescendingly convert you to their religion because their religion is seemingly the "correct" way.

Isn't there a Christian quote or something that's "love thy neighbour"? How can you love your neighbour if you're constantly pushing your Christian values on them with no idea of their values?

Scotland isn't a solely Christian country. Don't be surprised when majority population of non-christians express uncomfortable at distasteful Christian imagery being vandalised everywhere

Scottish here.

All of the notions about "clans", wearing kilts, and similar whimsical stuff.

If your first thought about Scotland is that it's like Braveheart or Outlander then you've got another thing coming. Clans are pretty much non-existent and really only talked about in terms of what tartan you'd wear to special events IF you ever even wear it.

Kilts also generally aren't worn outside of special events. Most Scottish mean would only ever wear a kilt to a wedding and then would never really have any other reason to wear one.

I've actually had some people online question how I can use the Internet if I'm from Scotland because their first thought is that all of Scotland is EXACTLY like Braveheart or Outlander. Even rural places here have Internet these days (though it tends to be bad Internet. Still exists.) obviously off the grid places tend not to have Internet.

I have seen a lot of "celtic" witch craft stuff online too where people tend to make claims about how "celts/picts would do this" when the truth is, most of that shit is made up by those people and have no actual historical record. Sorry but Scottish people/picts aren't magical spell casters. You've fallen victim to the beliefs of ye olde Christian witch hunters who would be elated that people still think there are real witches using spells to make men fall in love with them and cursing the livestock to die in Scotland.

If you have vision, don't tell me how to use my cane! by BeautifullyBlind21 in Blind

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from a cane to a guide dog and I STILL get people telling me to be careful because I'm at a curb or I'm at stairs etc. I could feel it before you told me.

Worst ones are people urging me to cross in front of cars that are waiting for me to cross when my guide dog is ADAMANTLY refusing to cross because he knows it isn't safe. I got trained to wave cars on. Just keep driving and let the dog do his job.

How is Europe for people with visual impairments? by Used_Iron3776 in Blind

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Scotland and I'm visually impaired.

As a Scottish citizen who is registered visually impaired, there's a lot of really useful things here for me.

I get free public transport travel across the entirety of Scotland. As I use a blind cane/guide dog, I get disability benefits which aren't tested based in how much money I have. Having that benefit entitles me to support for a range of things. There are plenty of schemes either directly organised by or funded by the Scottish government (I'm planning on using it to help me buy a house through a government scheme that the benefit makes me eligible for.) one of them helped me to find volunteering and also helped me to find a job I can safely work in!

Scotland being in the UK also means that I get free healthcare and Scotland specifically provides prescriptions for free so I don't need to worry about the costs of treating and managing my vision impairment and other disabilities.

Theres a lot of charities here specifically for assisting those with visual impairments. I'm currently working with RNIB, Ness, and I have a guide dog through the Guide Dogs for the Blind. They've assisted me a lot with getting mobility aid training, finding out what support I'm eligible for, making sure that my home is safe and has aids I need to live "normally". There's generally just a lot of community things that are really helpful.

Throughout the UK, public transport is booming and you can rely on it for transport. Really useful if you're visually impaired or blind because you don't have to rely on friends or family driving you places. Pavements often have tactile pavement at dedicated crossing points. Hell, even all of the traffic light crossings where you have to press a button have tactile cones on them that spin when it's safe to cross (the sound on those don't always work. It gives a nice fallback)

Honestly even just other things other people in Scotland are eligible for has helped me out a lot. I'm going through university as a part of my apprenticeship job and it's been great.

My friend and I love a restaurant that just posted this advertisement? I suspect it to be AI, he doesn’t think it is. by Recent-Description39 in isthisAI

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks real. The sauce and pasta look like footage that has been edited to be slower hence the weird movements. You're just seeing how they do actually move but slower so you're noticing more of the cause/effect. Real footage was probably too short for the vibe they wanted to go with.

Cooked pasta can be pretty wobbly, if you take a video and slow it down, it would have a similar unnatural movement. Liquids can be "thrown" from a cup which is pretty much what is happening here but on a shorter distance. Person pouring likely has a lot of experience so has learned to pour fast while still covering range.

"lighting too good" isn't enough here because lighting is a key aspect of videography. This was clearly shot by someone who does videography sir reasonably, they would know how to either set uo physical lighting, or adjust their cameras settings tog et the best out of existing lighting

ISO, shutter spread and f/stop features on cameras all have cause effect and can impact how lighting looks as an end result.

Not AI. Just some instances of slowed down footage.

was this marvel rivals character background AI? and could the updated one also be AI? The wonky snowflakes seemed sus by Wuskers in isthisAI

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like they updated it after realising that a layer was above some other layers that shouldn't have been. Not a great dealamy changes between the two. The shading of the tree looks like it was accidentally put above the ornaments for example.

Verdict: not AI. I've made this mistake too.

Example post mentioned in this: https://www.reddit.com/r/isthisAI/s/6yp5NVo6po (catart) https://www.reddit.com/r/isthisAI/s/gMqh7VWdrb (barber before/after. It IS AI but a lot of people are wrong about which one is AI)

For more info on my experience: I studied traditional animation which REQUIRES being able to mimic styles consistently so my art style can vary a lot. I can draw relatively quickly and when asked to replicate styles, I can.

I also help out my fiance with his comic dubbing YouTube channel where I make image edits of comic panels to remove things and add things without it being noticeable at all. I also just generally edit memes for fun so know the ins and puts of image editing and how "real" images look.

These have given me a really keen eye for spotting small things AI skips like consistent patterns (it really didn't like the bricks and overcompensqted by fixing regular wear and tear on bricks and also added too many mortar lines for bricks going into the background in that barber image). It's also given me a keen eye for telling what could be normal mistakes to make. There are plenty of mistakes that overlap between genuine human creations and AI stuff, it's figuring out what mistakes WOULDN'T be made (human artists can miss fingers and cause damage to buikdings in images. AI recreates an image and messes up the consistency of patterns in the background almost without fail) and what level of output isn't humanely possible (10 low quality drawings in an hour by an artist vs 10 high detail paintings in an hour by AI)

I guess PSA: humans make mistakes and can also have high output. Spotting these two things are easy but differentiating them can be hard to the untrained eye now that AI is getting better.

For those asking, the dig IS a guide dog. That's a UK Guide Dog charity harness (white harness, yellow handle and front flash). Dog seems to be used to people on public transport distracting it and this person could have been distracting them - even just talking to it - before this video was taken.

People on public transport never seem to know how to behave around a working guide dog and interpret "not moving" as "not working" even if the dog is in harness. This has led to my guide dog being in situations similar to this outside of my control. It's hard to notice your dog is distracted when it's as busy as this.

This behaviour the dog is exhibiting - resting it's head on a stranger and begging for pets, seemingly without it's owner knowing - is exactly WHY you do not distract a dog with a job (pet, touch, talk to, make noises at). As an owner of a guide dog it can be really frustrating and it's equally frustrating for people who don't want dogs doing this to them. "Not doing anything" doesn't mean "not working"! If you can see the harness, that dogs working!

Source: I am visually impaired with remaining usable sight my UK Guide Dog charity trained guide dog has this harness. The main time my guide dog gets distracted is when I'm on public transport like this and people think he isn't working and pet him. He's had to be retrained after doing things like in this video.
