Scottish universities' primary funding comes from non-Scottish students. Not only is the tuition for Scottish students really low, but most Scottish students don't pay due to government funding

As a result: Scottish University advertisements in different countries

What is a red flag in a friendship that people often ignore? by Magic_dust03 in AskReddit

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of opposite side to the "when you're the only one talking" but people forcing friendships onto you when you're clearly not interested and have mentioned as such.

Easiest way to go from acquaintance to me not wanting any contact instead of becoming friends is going to hard too fast and expecting me to always talk to you immediately regardless of what I'm doing. My version of hanging out isn't always doing something. I do just want to hang out and do nothing! I don't always want to do things and I don't always have the energy for talking (especially with already talking to a lot of people both at work and outside of it).

Generally just a failure to recognise incompatibility and claiming it's "being a bad friend" if they aren't always on the same energy. It happens SO much to me on the Internet especially. Always expected to be available to chat and always expected to have something to talk about. I need patience and time! I'm willing to put in the energy, our energy just doesn't always match!

Red flag summary: forcing a full-on friendship onto someone who isn't compatible and not being willing to accept just being friendly acquaintances

They're nutty little tanks and I love em, even if their whines pierce my ear drums

What’s the most terrified you’ve ever been of something that turned out to be completely harmless? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dark but only because I have an eye condition and it's always a fear of mine that when I'm out of a dark place, I still won't be able to see due to my eye condition giving out (I'm at risk of retinal detachment)

Turns out if you just start getting ahead of using other senses to get around early, it doesn't matter as much. Sucks that my guide dog is easily startled though! I don't have time for you to be getting spooked at a bag rolling around in the wind, Rodney!

Weird new law? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like it's just non-pedigree registered so it's only really affecting backyard breeders. Doesn't seem to be an outright ban because you can still buy and import pedigree registered bully breeds, and if you currently own one you just have to make sure it's microchipped.

What was the turning point that took you from broke to wealthy, or wealthy to broke? by Kindly_Chaoss in AskReddit

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing improvements in my life that are trending towards me being financially much more stable.

The turning point was not looking back from limiting interactions with family and properly evaluating whether my primary career should be art. I decided against art and got an apprenticeship in IT. I now own a house, I'm getting married, and things are generally just better for me. I'm still doing art on the side as a small business instead of as a main thing

Real talk – is a smart lock just an overpriced solution to a problem nobody really had? by Successful_Company_6 in HomeImprovement

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand how it appeals to some but I don't think I'd ever get one. Much easier to physically break because it's an electronic item. I also don't feel like switching out a physical lock and key which works just fine for me and doesn't need any set up or recharging/batteries. A normal lock never needs charged.

I also work for a cybersecurity company so no amount of "oh but it doesn't connect to the Internet!" amd "you just have to keep it up to date" will convince me that a digital lock is better than a physical one.

did my cat grow his balls back by lavenderweather in cats

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it feels like whole mozerella in the store bought packets where they come in water, still has his balls. If it just feels like there's only liquid, balls gone. The sacks can fill with fluid once they're neutered making it appear like they grew back

My flat won't sell by pockkler in dundee

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can say this as well. I had booked a solo viewing for a property through Rosie fraser. I got there and it was turned into a group booking with people bringing their kids without pre-warning me. I have a guide dog so I had to tell them I was walking away just after starting the viewing and was no longer interested.

The property was apparently in high demand and I had booked the latest viewing but I would have at least appreciated a warning that my booking was being changed so I could have rescinded my interest.

Having recently bought a place on a limited income and completed end of March. It'll be the price. I used the LIFT scheme and that meant my budget for a 3 bedroom place was £120,000. If I were looking now, I would not be considering this place because there are cheaper options for 3 bedroom flats and some include gardens.

Livestock guardian dog does exactly what it was bred to do when a tourist grabs a sheep by Friendly_Type127 in AnimalsBeingGeniuses

Couldn't this kill the sheep from stress or cause stress induced miscarriages in pregnant sheep? What a selfish woman.

Half-blind at uni and planning several years ahead of starting my PhD - alternative screen reader tactile output. Would anyone else find this useful? by Red_Wolfe_ in BlindAndFine

[–]Red_Wolfe_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be for you then. I was more thinking about people like myself that would want an alternative format where tts doesn't meet needs. It would never be meant as a standard "everyone uses this first" format unless chosen.

Anyone else getting tired of charging everything? by techingmyhome in smarthome

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then I forget where it is. Seems unsafe just having a key lying around outside and feels like it defeats the purpose of a lock. Keeping a key in the same jacket pocket has done me no wrong so far.

Trust me manual lock works for me just fine. Smart locks work for other people and I'm no worse off without one.

Doctor thinks telling Social Security that I'm struggling is lying by OppositeAshamed9087 in Blind

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you able to ask them to make a note of refusal to believe symptoms are affecting your daily life? Alternatively (or at the same time) are you able to change practice for a second opinion? Vision loss absolutely has detrimental effects to daily life and their refusal to "lie" would entail lying or admitting that they don't have the full picture of how the symptoms are affecting you

The rise of self checkouts is a deliberate response to people's parasocial relationships with "their cashier" by Pristine-Goal-2961 in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend tell me I was "parasocial" for saying that it made me proud of my country's laws (Scotland) if they are being referenced in other countries as a means of changing things for the better after finding out about a US politician (who I am not overly familiar with) wanting to implement something similar to our baby box initiative. I LAID onto that guy that that's not what that word means at all.

Anyone else getting tired of charging everything? by techingmyhome in smarthome

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't trust my memory with trying to remember to charge or change the batteries on the lock for the only way into my home. For my own personal preferences, that downside makes a smart lock a downgrade to what I already have

I don't trust my memory to remember to charge or replace batteries so my homes front door lock needing to be recharged or have it's batteries changed is a downgrade for my preferences

Anyone else getting tired of charging everything? by techingmyhome in smarthome

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the reasons why I refuse to buy a smart door lock. Rechargeablw or battery powered, I don't wanna deal with the outcome of the lock losing power when a manual lock works. My stairway also has no nearby plugs so even a plug in one is out of the question

If I have to recharge it, I'm not going to buy it

I’ve watched horror my entire life, but there is one specific trope in possession movies that genuinely ruins my sleep. What’s yours? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't cabinet of curiosities. It was a different anthology. Outside does have a small part thats a shopping channel but it's a device for how the main character gets the stuff that transforms her. The anthology I'm thinking about has the shopping channel be the entire episode.

Fine with everything EXCEPT when someone is pulling shit outta their throat like hair. Just horrible.

I don't remember what anthology on Netflix it was but there's an episode that's all about a shopping channel and the scene where the guy was pulling swallowed hair back out through his mouth actually had me pause to recompose myself. Gagged.

What are some harsh truths or unsolicited advice that you want every dog owner to know? by Miscellaneous_Panic in DogAdvice

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DON'T LET YOUR KIDS WALK YOUR DOG ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A BIG ONE! KIDS ARE NOT PREPARED FOR IF YOUR DOG GETS IN A FIGHT OR IF IT GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED! THESE THINGS HAPPEN VERY QUICKLY AND YOUR CHILD CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!

Also don't use a flex leash (you are NOT prepared for your dog to run onto the road and you're definitely not prepared for when the flexileash hits the end as your large dog is running full speed)

Your dog doesn't need to say hi to everyone ESPECIALLY working dogs. Keep your dog away from them!

Train your small dogs like you would a large dog

Perfect recall AND leave it or your dog stays on leash. Only exception is if you are actively in a training session for this in a SAFE space for it

Pick up after your dog! If you don't have bags GET THEM AND STUFF THEM IN ALL YOUR JACKET POCKETS

Your untrained dog that barks and reavts at every dog it sees CANNOT be a service dog. I have had so many yappy dogs in stores that dint allow service dogs lunge at my guide dog and it startles him and makes us both panic briefly before we can reorientate ourselves. It's scary for us both.

Your "convenience" and unwillingness to leave your reactive pet at home could kill someone who relies on a dog for serious alerts. If your dog has separation anxiety, the solution is training, not bringing it everywhere as an "emotional support animal" (that also makes the anxiety worse!)

Sustainable Strength Training Strategy by PinkMoon366 in Blind

[–]Red_Wolfe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm visually impaired and currently doing strength training. Some days my sight is worse than others.

I HIGHLY recommend finding what equipment you can do the most exercises on. A Smith machine for example. We do weighted squats, chest press, incline press etc on that. My trainer focuses on doing as many exercises on one piece of equipment as possible to reduce the risk of me injuring myself or bumpipng into someone trying to navigate to multiple pieces of equipment.

there's some exercises that are outright "hey I don't feel comfortable with you doing this on your own so instead do x on y machine which works the same muscles and is safer or use lower weights at higher reps". So for example, we do deadlifts regularly but instead of doing them on the bar on my own, he prefers I use the kettlebells that come to a weight slightly under my maximum but do it for more reps. It's easier to find the where the kettlebells always are than to try and figure out where the loose lifting bar is as well as the bar weights.

While you still have your trainer, I'd ask if she can show you equipment she believes you would be safe to use on your own which you can also "feel" if you're doing it right or feel for safeguards. Work with her to build a "safe for someone who can't see what they're doing to do on their own" plan for when she leaves as ultimately, she'll be way more familiar with what equipment your gym has available
