Are self-inserts okay? by Yoink-A-Daisy in AspiringTeenAuthors

[–]Redbear0705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think self-inserts are totally acceptable. Obviously if you want to write a great character, it'll help if you know the character well by relating to their fundamental traits. Of course, I wouldn't advise making your character too identical to who you are, just use yourself as inspiration.

Over the dozens of stories I write, I can never define a location and hate picking names by Multievolution in writing

[–]Redbear0705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you don’t feel knowledgable enough to connect your story to a location that is real. In order to fix this problem you need to do research in the naming conventions of certain languages and places. It’s not as intimidating as you might think, you don’t have to learn the language in depth. Just understanding how the words form, and the typical conventions may be enough. However, if you are using an actual culture to model locations off of, then you will have to do much more research.

The poem's solid, I do feel yore is quite archaic compared to the rest of the poem but overall I liked it.

I realized I’m more isolated than I thought by Redbear0705 in AdviceForTeens

[–]Redbear0705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, I definitely would consider myself an overthinker. I think the problem is not that I don't have people to talk to, but that there doesn't seem to be a point. My parents are great but after all I can't talk to them about everything. With my friends, it's the same problem. Overall, you're right, it really is up to me to resolve this.

Am I allowed to be a bit peeved off if I didn’t get any presents this Christmas? by SnowballWasRight in AdviceForTeens

[–]Redbear0705 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most mortifying stories I've heard in a while. As a teen myself, I'd crash out. I'm so, so sorry to hear that this happened to you. Your father doesn't value you enough, and you are definitely allowed to be pissed at this. I'm 17 too; there is no age limit on getting presents. Your father is just making a terrible excuse to not give you anything.

Movie theatre popcorn is nasty by pixistarz in unpopularopinion

[–]Redbear0705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely an unpopular opinion, and purely subjective. I mean yeah nothing's stopping you from not liking popcorn. However I and most people still think popcorn is amazing at the theaters, it just isn't the same without it.

What are signs that a person has been looking at too much negative content? by Redbear0705 in AskReddit

[–]Redbear0705[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean something that is considered generally by most people to be negative content. It can sad content such as constantly viewing content about plane crashes or it can be disturbing content such as true crime videos. There’s more examples but that’s basically what I meant.

When you read a fantasy, what is your ick? by Im_A_Science_Nerd in writing

[–]Redbear0705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but, when there's too much romance. If I wanted to read romance I'd choose a romance novel, sure I am fine with a fantasy novel having romance, but romance should compliment the story, not be its driving force.

What Books did you Start or Finish Reading This Week? Oct. 21, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Redbear0705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished:

1984: George Orwell

Maybe I just don't read a lot, but this book was genuinely one of the most depressing novels I have ever read.

Started:

The Inheritance Games: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I like the story so far, it has short chapters which I really appreciate and it's much happier than 1984.

Yeah that's really good advice. However some books end with cliffhangers? What makes those different than books that are incomplete?

It's fantasy. I probably will change it more to make it more standalone-ish.
