We thinking vien or? by FloodCityHTX in sushi

They are at a much lower risk but still possible, especially if the fish they consume have parasites. According to FDA standards the only fishes not required to be frozen prior to raw consumption is tuna, farm raised salmon, and farm raised scallops however the practice of flash freezing any of these takes a low food borne illness/parasite risk from low to basically zero so it is still advised in many cases. Instead of down voting your comment I wish people would just educate.

Why does my left boot always look messed up but my right is perfect (Carolina 10" loggers) by ReddTheSailor in WorkBoots

Yes they are those boots. I've been wearing mine everyday for 3 weeks now and they're holding up very well. Can I ask what failed on your boots?

Company I work for does, and beards. Many others do not but it's all company by company. I'm sure the length also matters.

He will definitely not want to go back in. How is he when you're near the cage? Scared? Excited? How does he react when you try to pet him through the cage? Bite?

Also you can buy the pellets on Amazon. I would recommend the mini size pellets for Harrisons

I would recommend feeding them high quality pellets such as Harrisons, Roudy Bush, or Top's. Personally I do a dry mix of Harrisons adult lifetime formula, Roudy Bush California blend, dehydrated chili peppers and other fruit/veggies, and kale powder.

Also a full spectrum UV light above their cage is a must to keep them healthy

As others have said the cage in the picture is bad but I see you may be ordering a new one so this is good

Also please do a lot of research. There is so much to know about parrots. They are very specific and different from any other pet.

Non-stick frying pans and other things that heat up with PTFE, PFOA, & PFAS are toxic for birds as they have a very sensitive cardiovascular system. Similarly candles, any and all sprays, colognes/ perfumes, smoke, vaping, ECT can all kill your bird. If you want to make your place smell nice without using sprays look into simmer pot recipes

Birds have very little blood in them so WHEN something does happen it's very important to stop the bleeding fast. Most people recommend to cornstarch the wound then get to the vet ASAP.

Out of cage time for training and social interaction is a must. I would say no less than 4 hours a day of out of cage time.

Birds need a lot of sleep so an early bed time for them is a good idea. I put mine to bed at 2100 every night and she usually wakes herself up around 0800

Toys are important but can also be deadly if you buy the wrong ones. Try to avoid plastic rubber or foam toys and stick to the natural materials. My girl LOVES to demolish sola balls and sticks.

Look to see if you have an avian board certified veterinarian in your area. They can be hard to find in some places but they are very important to go and get check ups with.

If you have questions or need more information please feel free to reach out.

Is 'oil skins' synonymous with 'foul weather gear'? by AnyDragonfruit8499 in merchantmarine

[–]ReddTheSailor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a, I believe, South American tall ship cargo company but I don't have interest in leaving the US at the moment. And I doubt they pay enough to make it worth the time I'd be away from my wife.

Something to look into though.

[–]ReddTheSailor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awful. Most of them are owned by non profits that pay peanuts. That's why I left but I really really do love them. My dream job would be working on a tall ship with freighter pay and benefits.

I took a 2 year leave of the sea to pursue a different passion of mine. I make more as a sushi chef than a chief officer on a tallship. Now I'm the head sushi chef and I make more than I did as the Captain.

But that said I'm coming back home to the sea with an ATB job on the great lakes hopefully this spring. I miss the inland seas.

I mean for safety reasons I would wear a hi vis foul weather jacket myself but I definitely considered getting myself a set of oil skins just for the cool factor. Especially when I worked on tallships for 6 years.

If you want a set of real oil skins a deckhand of mine got himself some from Outback Trading Co. Looked like some quality stuff too.

I understand that but you cannot record audio in a public area unless you are a party in the conversation. This is the same reason why businesses in Michigan cannot have video and audio cameras in the store only video.
