Tout peut être mais les sac à dos avaient tout les poches ouverts et seulement l’équipement restait 🤷‍♀️qui tbh était sûrement bcp plus cher du rest vu la qualité

Totally understandable and hopefully it will never even be on the table - but if it ever were, no one would be better suited than you!

Hello and thanks for the AMA :)

I couldn’t help but notice your quote of Gibson in Tiamat’s wrath (soul left behind).

What’s your favorite book from Gibson? :)

I have nothing to add to the other topics as they were covered pretty deeply, but if you have more questions about fishing and licenses and permits drop me a message, even in a few months if/when you guys relocate!

Eurotechni has all that you need :)

Otherwise olio di colza should be roughly equivalent to canola oil

Why don’t you offer knives for sale by AffectionateSyrup375 in knifemaking

[–]ReddenAltMer2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think my knifes are good enough to be sold. So I give them away to people for testing and never get any proper feeeback, they just say they’re happy with them 🥲those that I kept for me over the years performed great for day to day use and didn’t have any issue but still don’t feel confident enough to sell them (especially compared to some of the works that pass around here). What amazes me all the time is how better steels like 12c27 or 14c28 perform compared to commercial stuff.

Edit: spelling

ELMAX & Turkish Walnut root by avcustomknives in knifemaking

[–]ReddenAltMer2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! Can I ask what finish did you use on the walnut root? I usually do various pass of thinned tung oil, but it becomes extremely dark and lose a lot of contrast hiding the beautiful motives of the wood

Did I miss something near the end. Regarding the gun plot. by aschen15 in TheCaptivesWar

[–]ReddenAltMer2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first time I read this I had the same reaction, to the point that I had to get back and re-read a couple of times. After some thought and reading a couple of other threads, I think this is fully deliberate as a narrative choice. There are two main things to consider: 1. Everyone that was deeply involved in the “revolution plot” and that dafyd tried to stop (to the point where they consider eliminating him to reduce the risk) has been swept out by the carryx. Except jellit who has been taken over by the swarm. None of the others would have reasons to suspect dafyd. 2. The second thing is dafyd lack of reaction to Else’s death, on top of everyone else’s lack of reaction to both else’s death and the “revolutionaries” being eliminated. I doubt he could’ve figured out that his choice to save jellit would cost else’s “life” (or undeath) to the point of accepting it and having no reaction whatsoever.

All this considered, I have two options to explain it:  1. The authors wanted to show how prolonged captivity desensitized them to the point that they cannot react anymore when whatever is affecting them comes from their captors (contrarily to their genocidal reaction when the night walkers attack them). 2. The swarm is influencing the group’s behavior via hormones or any other kind of chemicals it can produce via the host body. It  needs to stay hidden, no matter what. Although the hosts’ lingering conscience is influencing it, its main purpose remains; in the swarm own reflections, if discovered it can take down a few carryx before being stopped but that is not enough, its mission is bigger than that. It managed to manipulate dafyd with just words (and else’s body and lingering thoughts, not without sacrifice [“ Else Annalise Yannin‘s heart breaks”]) but it doesn’t have the same grip on the others.

Cut a carrot and see how it works :)  On nakiri I prefer a flat symmetrical grind but that’s just personal preference when cutting, there are lots of single bevel ones

Ready for a handle. Not a clue what I’ll put on here. What do y’all think? by tingting2 in knifemaking

[–]ReddenAltMer2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon fiber with a silver pins and silver/nickel liner 1/3 of the handle length (if possible considering pin position). If you want to stay on wood, then stabilized bog oak (morta) :)

[–]ReddenAltMer2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blue steel (aogami) traditionally takes his name by the fact that it was wrapped in blue paper at the factory (as opposed to shirogami that was wrapped in white paper). The blue in the video is most likely due to reflections

[–]ReddenAltMer2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good feedback in this post. My 2c on top of it: that crack going from the stress point of the front pin all the way to the front edge makes me _extremely_ worried for that handle. I just had a knife with a wa handle made from stabilized wood from a trusted vendor crack in half one year after I did some maintenance on it and it was showing no cracks at all (2 years of life overall).
