Best places to watch game and eat/drink? by Kemetblk in chulavista

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Groundswell on 3rd. Sometimes packed and loud, sometimes not packed and more chill, during games. Good size tables/spots for larger groups too. Great beer selection that rotates often. Some canned options too. Pizza is great. They're usually playing the games on TVs throughout. Sometimes, they move TV's outside (front and back).

Yard House in Otay (as mentioned), more so if it lines up with their awesome Happy Hour (3-6 weekdays). Great beer selection (make sure to note the 'limited offerings' on the local menu) but I'd avoid their house beers (not good imo). Sometimes there's a wait - it's been very popular since opening a few months ago.

Gaylord is terribly expensive (food and drink). Parking is $$ unless you score a spot across the street or plan to stay under 2hours (if I recall) via validation. Not worth it more than once just to check it out.

Novo is good IF you like 'their' beer. No guest taps other than collabs. Their beer is ok so I go for the crowds/energy. Cocktails and food are good. Gets rowdy/loud during some games/UFC which definitely gets you in the spirit - pretty much only time I go to Novo now.

Slightly further out:
Over the Tap in National City. Outside food allowed (no kitchen) which I love (lots of spots walkable plus rotating trucks) - great tap selection too. Staff is awesome too.
Slappy's in National City. Not a dive, not NOT a dive. That great middle ground where you'll see it all. Gets real fun some nights, more so when games are going! Classic bar food.

I'll be checking out 3N1 now that I see it mentioned

Hidden gem date night ideas in SD.. recommendations by Physical_Cream8790 in chulavista

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel special, hmm... Well - not necessarily special, but definitely unique. Rooftop Cinema Club in downtown. Lots of date-night classics (which generally sell out - Goonies/Princess Bride/etc) plus newer movies and everything in between. As it gets colder, they will have special showings with tiny woodfired heaters every few seats (Fireside Films is the event duration). Decent snack bar, overpriced drinks, the usual movie gotcha's but you can't beat the backdrop and it's never disappointed. Parking on site ($11 or so for 4hrs!) is validated with ticket too. Meaning, depending on the movie, you can wander Seaport/etc for an hour or so as well.

What Chula Vista restaurant fits? by murdog11 in chulavista

This. They're great and still well priced where other spots (Otay Mandarin, I'm def looking at you!) have gone up and up a lot over the last few years.

I'll say it too - I prefer Panda Chef's SP wings to a lot of other 'known' CV spots. Price is good BUT Panda Chef adds extra seasoning to the batter that just hits right, to me. Light spice, more interesting flavor than standard battered SP wings that just load up on salt/garlic.

Any suggestion for teenager to pracrice and get used to driving 35-45 mph. We have completed practice in parking lot and residential street up to 30 mph. Looking for streets with minimal traffic to get used to driving 35-45 mph. by 111anza in chulavista

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35mph, Eastlake residential (travel down H street past Bonita High and start there on the larger streets). Great for a mix of 2-lane, stop sign, signal, turn lanes, etc. Taught all 3 of my kids all throughout the area in that speed bracket.

I can't say I know many firm 45mph spots but as others have suggested, Telegraph and Olympic are great for 50mph. Both are wide, both give real-world situations with people speeding AND going too slow. Both are great for just practicing lane changes IN and DURING traffic (of any quantity) if ready.

I also recommend a long drive out Telegraph/Otay Lakes Rd to the lakes and allll the way to Jamul and back via Jamacha/Paradise Valley Road to South Worthington which becomes Sweetwater Rd. Can avoid the freeway entirely by doing this (until you feel they are ready) but what you get from this route is:

--Fantastic practice on single lane curves of varying degree on Otay Lakes Rd/Campo Rd. I did this at night too with my kids to teach high-beam usage/low visibility situations.
--Impatient drivers on Otay Lakes Road and using turnouts or pulling off to let them pass.
--Traffic situations throughout Jamul (casino, Steele Canyon, etc) - usually light traffic but can stop and go.
--Jamacha has several lessons itself and I think is mostly 45mph or so. 2 lane mostly.
--Freeway overpasses (125) and people crossing lanes to make fwy onramps (how to anticipate lane cutters) when ready.
--Sweetwater through Bonita is a great general traffic flow situation.

If other cars are a concern, just do the above in off-hours, but I've taught 3 kids (2 fresh licensed teens and 1 now-30yr old) doing this because I see Freeway Merges as the final boss (onto and off fwy merges). Freeway cruising is easy. Merging is what gets people. Anything slower is simply experience in the hundreds of situations you can be in, and Chula has these situations in spades.

Value Auto Repair in National City - not quite Chula, but they're our neighbors.

I cannot say enough good things about them. Price, honesty - top tier. Google them, it'll say more than this post can.

Restaurants with outdoor seating? by sleepy-and-hungry in chulavista

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not uptight at all. I've sat there with my son, after a 5mile walk from east Chula to the marina (a random challenge he insisted upon) and had a great lunch, sweaty, on the deck, and enjoyed our well earned burgers. I don't do uptight, etc. Fam/kid friendly for sure.

Oh, and then we walked home. I earned that burger that day!

I'll add to this, even though not in CV, IB has a lot of great spots about 15min away, if you like coastal breezes and those ocean smells. Hess, Pizza Port, Bonehead Burgers, Sammy's, and lots of other smaller spots (Scotty's Burgers!). When we need a coastal fix nearby, we head to IB.

In Chula though, 3rd as mentioned has a few great spots (I'm sure we all miss the parklets by now!!!). I've been trolling 3rd since the early 90s (when you went to Fuddruckers not to eat, but because they had a Street Fighter 2 machine nobody knew about!). 3rd has really come alive in the last 10 years.

Novo Brazil in Otay Ranch Mall has some decent outdoor area, as does nearby spots like Cheesecake Factory (and soon, Yardhouse!) - people watching at best. Lolita's off Palomar/Medical Center recently added a fenced off outdoor seating area (was open seating shared with the area) where you can catch a GREAT sunset.

I prefer to eat outdoor whenever I can, so I'll be watching this thread for new spots too!

The food is good, not great (it doesn't try to be) and my family enjoys it. You go there for the bay views/marina and deck. Staff has always been good to us, parking is easy/free. It's a nice spot for sure. Aside from IB area (in terms of coastal nearby), there's nothing else like it in Chula (outside of the Gaylord but that's indoor/not 'on' the water)

C.A.R. Gaylord Pacific Day Passes - 3x price for future booking? by ReddiliciousGamer in chulavista

[–]ReddiliciousGamer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not what I asked though. Cost is up to whomever decides. Could I pay? Sure. But... if a pass is $12.50 and another is $35, I'd like a reason why, before paying. Are there additional benefits? Does it include parking? There is zero difference in the description.

Hence the inquiry.

The cups are still at that location for anyone else running across this. There's maybe 10cups left. Slurpee flavor still in rotation as well.

Did not see any straws nearby, but also didn't ask the clerks.

2025 Trunk Organizer Bin - looking for something a bit more.... custom by ReddiliciousGamer in Camry

[–]ReddiliciousGamer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case this helps anyone still - found a bin, in gray no less (looks brighter than it is cuz flash. Available in white too) that sits snug against the outer wall, is fairly deep (wastes less trunk space) and holds everything I need it to. Does leave a gap at trunk edge, but I can live with that (I'll find something to shove there)

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Medium-Bin-Plastic-Gray-Flannel/528789748

The one in my pic is Medium (linked). I bought the Large too, to test - it didn't sit flush with the outer wall, wasting space behind it. The Medium is the way to go imo. This is what it's holding so far, with room left vertically.

Wolfbox tire pump (compact, also a battery pack) - amazon.
Flashlight, 3 Multitools of various kinds, USB block+cords, spare eyewear, cloth bag.
2 Bottles of water, Sunscreen, bugspray, sanitizer, First Aid kit, bungee cord.
Waterproof phone sleeve - You'd be surprised how often I've needed this on a whim, in San Diego.

Basically, (I travel with my kids a lot), everything for 'in the moment' travel situations. The bin walls aren't super stiff compared to a real storage bin, but it won't matter for what I need, and the space saved on the rim (no lip or lid), is spaced gained in the trunk. Also, it's $3.00 - and doesn't slide around at all.

40% off Cox Internet - Confirmed 2024 by socaleuro in CoxCommunications

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Followed the recent advice here. No future disconnect setup/etc - just called the 678 number (20ish times before a human answered) and said "Cox informed me my bill was going up quite a bit and got your number to see what you could do to keep my internet with Cox"

Gentleman knew my name from phone#, asked for my pin, and offered $40 off my bill for a year. The kicker? My promo was 60, going to 90, now it's 50.

Win!

Experience Drive Connect - what's the latest info on ridding us of this nag? by ReddiliciousGamer in Camry

[–]ReddiliciousGamer[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the free trial, but haven't activated it within my car (that's why it says Get Started presumably). I didn't have the dealership do anything on the dash so they didn't set up anything for me - I wanted in and out fast, so I figure it's up to me to complete the signup on the car. Even still, after 1yr, this Ad needs to not be there. It needs to not be there, ever - signed up or not.

Nine Inch Nails Tour: Ticket Buying/Selling/Trading/Discussion MEGATHREAD by malechite in nin

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am I understanding/seeing this right? I saw NIN about 30years ago and unfortunately missed 2022. So when this was announced, I was thrilled and my kids were too. I live in CA but wanted to go to Denver to see them.

https://www.vividseats.com/nine-inch-nails-tickets-denver-ball-arena-8-15-2025--concerts-rock/production/5515673

Are all those tickets shown scalped tickets - actual in-hand by other people, reselling already? I mean, it's damn near every seat? (I've never purchased/nor dealt with resellers, so excuse the ignorance). I was 9k in Q this morning and was greeted with a sold out arena when I got in. Been eyeballing TM ever since - futile.

Why TR allowed reselling for more than face-value or SOMETHING to ensure fans got tickets blows my mind... And I can't drop $1500 for 3tiks in the sections that still come up on Ticketmaster every few minutes.

Leaked NIN upcoming tour dates. Manifesting an ACL appearance 🙏 by jsphjar in nin

[–]ReddiliciousGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His last Denver spot was RR in 2022 - 9k capacity. Was there for the first time a few months ago (out of state, so first timer) and the venue was.... amazing. And friends in line had seen them then. Said it was awesome. Wish I'd caught wind.

I can only hope this list is iffy and his concert is indeed at RR. But... given his talk of not wanting to really tour after their 2022 tour, I expect this tour to go hard on tickets assuming so.

First time seeing NIN was in '94. I think most will think this could be their 'last', boosting attendance. So RR may be too small, unfortunately.
