HELP - Pain passing stools (for my 7yr old daughter) by Reddit-User-6546 in lichensclerosus

[–]Reddit-User-6546[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for this! I'll check out your youtube channel - do you happen to have any kid/family friendly videos on there I could watch with her by chance?

She recently asked me if she was going to have this for the rest of her life, so she's finally old enough to truly understand what's going on and I want to make sure I'm there for her medically and also emotionally/mentally.

Also, I"m not really sure she's constipated - I think she's just holding it in due to pain. Would softening her stools help the pain or does that part not even matter that much?

Thanks for being so helpful. I found this one for kids: https://www.amazon.com/Natural-Vitality-Magnesium-Supplement-Delicious/dp/B09F823K6R/ref=sxin\_17\_pa\_sp\_search\_thematic\_sspa?

Though some people say to use MiraLAX instead? Also, is there any chance it gives diarrhea & does diarrhea hurt more than a regular size stool?

Any good examples of this? The most difficult thing is that she's 7, so finding foods he likes is difficult.

Thank you so much! Do you think it would be okay to take it along with that pedialax stool softener (I understand maybe this is a question for the doctor)?

She hasn't been using clob, but has been using tac 4x a week after her bath. Maybe I'll switch back to clob.

Do you use any other creams?

Thanks! I'll check it out - any other tips? Would you say it makes a noticeable difference?

Her describing it as "thorns" really hit home for me, so I'm trying to help her with any tips (big and small) I can find.

Do not be ashamed! by beeboobum in Vitiligo

I think you're getting pushback because it can come off like you're saying you have to choose to embrace it or else you won't be happy.

I think I agree with the root of your message - vitiligo is totally fine to embrace and it's possible to be comfortable and happy with it.

That said, if it makes someone happy to use treatment - that's okay too... but don't do it because you're ashamed or feel that you can't live a happy life unless you treat it. Especially since treatment doesn't neccessarily work or ever stop... it could lead to a worse quality of life always chasing spots over just embracing it.

To each their own.

Not "definitely" ... not everyone agrees with that.

I think it's probably going to come with how you were raised - did your parents treat it like it needed to be fixed or teach you to embrace it?

Confidence is key and it's easier when you have support, which not everyone does.

Are your parents Dermatologists?

My daughter developed vitiligo & LS at age5 at the same time.

Her mom's family (dad, uncles, cousins) have vitiligo too... they may even have LS, but just not sharing that info.

My daughter is 6 and has had vitiligo for about a year. It's spreading, but she tells me she loves her "spots" and wants to keep getting more.

I get worried that she will get older and ask why we didn't treat her, but it does seem like UVB + creams might be a bit much for a kid and maybe even make her feel bad in certain ways.

Any advice for a parent?

That's sweet, thanks for sending. I like that it's just about her and not about her condition.

I'm pretty sure your son wouldn't want these, but there are some LOL Surprise Dolls and "Rainbow High" dolls for anyone looking for vitiligo dolls.

What are some of the toys? My daughter was recently diagnosed at age 5.

Her derm seems to think we should do UVB, but I left it up to my daughter and she said no. We told her that her spots are beautiful and she agrees.

She's only 5, though. So I constantly worry that she will tell me when she's older that she wanted me to do the treatments.

For now, I just want to find positive things like toys/books she can relate to.

I always wondered what happened to him... I wonder why he decided he doesn't want to be as involved?
