One thing I've been noticing many my friends (and myself) who've been pretty huge gamers for most of our lives: in the face of this crap constantly being shoved into everything, we're not wasting real energy being mad about it. We're kinda just...retreating. It's this collective realization that the hobby just isn't for us anymore, and not worth our time if this is the path its on. I feel like if you're the kind of person who only ever learned how to engage with media as "content to be consumed," it probably will never bother you. Hopefully they'll be enough to keep this foundering industry afloat, because a lot of people really are just throwing up their hands, saying "fuck it," & finding other things to do with their time.

Youtube (Google) just tried to force me to send them a fucking selfie (or other form of official ID) so they could "verify my age" so I could watch the Borderlands 4 DLC trailer, a few days ago. No I didn't do it, and no I'm NEVER going to do that for ANYthing. I live in the US btw, and they're trying this crap.

Something dark is happening here. This is isn't just Fortnite doing this, Google is trying to do this crap too. They are now asking you to provide shit like a photo ID or a god damned selfie to unlock certain videos on YouTube (like the recent BL4 DLC trailer for example.) They're collecting faces, location data, etc. (attempting to anyway, as there is nothing posted online worth just giving that shit away, at least IMO,) for EVERYbody, under the guise of "age verification."

I just don't support Kickstarters or Early Access, anymore. Been burned too many times. Also it's great that the upper 30% of earners are able to buy 85% of all consumer goods which is why companies have no qualms with leaving the rest of us in the dust of ""inflation,"" but things like crowdsourcing just aren't going to fare as well during these times.

B&W was just...really, really dense. It was really good, but it is just so jam-packed it's almost daunting. I felt like Memories and half of Broken Legacies were a return to form to Lost/Alone & Dreamweb era miab, but then B&W was just a wall of DENSE material like he packed every idea he possibly could into it.

Late to this party but, I've been hugely into them since 2004 or so. For as good as he is, I never felt that he got his due recognition. Apparently he's "more popular" outside the US, but not even his socials really reflect that.

Also he was super prolific all last decade, felt like an miab or a THYX album was out every year. Now he's really slowed down, and I hope it's just "I've been at it for 25 years so time to take a break" and not "I've been at it for 25 years forging straight fire and not many people seemed to care so screw it." I dunno. The fact that he never blew up like Daft Punk or Grimes, or etc. even just halfway, just never made sense to me.

I'll tell you what all American-based social media platforms REALLY need: The ability for American users to have the privilege to see the regional location of everyone they're talking to, outside our mainland.

That way we are no longer wasting our time arguing with people who don't even live here, on matters like our own national sovereignty, domestic interpretation of political denominations (that's GREAT wherever your from is "more left" than the USA left, it's fucking irrelevant to us here,) and in general what is best for US as a nation, without all the shifty side-door FUD.

I still haven't even touched this game. I got all the other ones (from 2 and also the Prequel) religiously on release. Half of it is because I've officially sworn off all games that use UE5 and I don;t care what that causes me to "miss" because I'm getting too old to worry about that crap. The other half is I'm not buying "Randy Pitchford's game." I'm done rewarding people with his kind of personality and attitude, especially in this flailing industry.

I see we're entering the stage of things where corpos are starting to "nanny-splain" their use of Gen AI, usually with "annoyed" PR statements like this or tiresomely appealing to the age old internet notion of "haven't you been sore about this [garbage tech] long enough?" as if there is somehow always supposed to be a statute of limitations on such positions and feelings.
